ALL ABOUT THE BREAD BASKET

• New Jersey, New York, Delaware and COLONIES
Pennsylvania. All made the middle
colony. Also know as the bread basket The bread basket colony
colony. They were called that because
they have great soil. Also they grow a
lot of food.

PENNSYLVANIA

• William Penn started a Quaker
colony in Pennsylvania.

• King Charles II owed William
Penn's father money, so the king
gave the colony to William Penn.

• The king also wanted to get Penn
out of England because he was a
Quaker.

• Pennsylvania and the other Middle
colonies allowed freedom of
religion.

• The capital of Pennsylvania was
Philadelphia.

NEW JERSEY

• New Jersey has mild
weather and great soil.
After all it is a great
place to live! They wrote
the concession and
agreement. This had
special rules in it. There
would be no taxes
without an ok. New
Jersey was named after
Jersey.

DELAWARE

• Delaware was one of the
bread basket colonies.
Delaware was once part of
Pennsylvania colony. The
Dutch first came to Delaware
because It was a good place
for whaling. Later Swedish
took it over.

Middle colonies climate CLIMATE

• Their climate is mild. That
means warm summers and
mild winters. They also have

amazing soil. They have
HUMONGOUS lands. They

had amazing farming.

NATURAL RESOURCES

• They had rivers, crops, forests and
many wildlife.

• Many natural resources could be
found in the Mid Atlantic region.

• The most important one was the soil.
• It had rich soil and a mild climate.
• They became expert farmers.

LAND

There is a lot of rich soil and
lots of hills. There is many
forests providing a lot of wood.
As well as long growing seasons
with a warm climate. You can
grow a lot of grain.

AGRICULTURE

• the middle colonies were People farming
called the bread
basket Because they
had crops like maize
(corn), squash, beans,
potatoes. They also had
really good soil for
growing crops. They
also had a really good

fishing resources.

INDUSTRY

• They were farmers.
• They were part of the breadbasket

family.
• Trees were turned into lumber.
• Farmers lived close to towns and cities.
• There were many forests and trees

in the nearby Appalachian Mountains.

HOUSING

• They had long houses. They
looked like long shaped
loaves. They also had dome
shaped houses. They were
made out of wood and mud. It
was dark inside because
there was no windows like
todays houses.

PEOPLE

There is a lot of different types
of people there. For example
Quakers they dislike war a lot
and also are very nice. Then
there is the Dutch were are very
good dairy farmers. As well as
the Swedes they were the
people who settled Delaware .
There also The Amish who are
pretty much suck in the 1700s
they do not believe motorized
machines and they are still a
live in the USA today.

SCHOOLING A LONG TIME AGO

• Kids went to school in the new world. They Schooling from a really long
learned the same things we learn. Plus long time ago.

they learned religion. They also learned
how to be a blacksmith. They also learned
about jobs they would need to know when
they got older.

• In the middle colonies RELIGION
there were mostly
Quakers. They had a lot The Quakers who wanted
of rules at church and religious freedom.
they did not like them. So
they had religious
freedom that’s one
reason every one likes it
there.
