our rearview mirror, it is timely to take a moment and reflect on the
significant role that tourism plays within the fabric of our community.
It enriches the lives of residents by maintaining the quality of
our beaches and public parks, supporting our arts and cultural
institutions, creating a robust economic climate, and generating a
strong global brand through marketing efforts which in turn generates
opportunities for business growth. These elements combined elevate
the quality of life for all Collier County residents.
It is important to note that not many destinations can lay claim to
possessing all the elements that create a perfect and welcoming tourist
destination—a white sand ribboned coastline, wide-open spaces filled
with untainted natural assets, exceptional entertainment, outstanding
attractions, and an unmatched lifestyle.
And all we must do is look no further than our own backyard.

Additionally, research is showing that women who have

inflammation, may be at greater risk for heart disease, as well
as women who experience hypertension or gestational diabetes
during pregnancy.
While it’s not known why these conditions put women at
increased risk, it may have to do with changes that occur in the
coronary arteries or in the endocrine system that predisposes
women to coronary artery disease. Another thought is that the
conditions change the arterial wall causing endothelial dysfunction.
The bottom line is that going for a well visit every year, where
you can get screened for the markers of heart disease with a

336 Pages publisher willing to touch the third. Relegated to teaching at a
$28.00 US bargain-basement MFA program at the low-residence Ripley
College in Vermont, he faces the fact that he is a failed writer.
Valiantly trying to encourage the next generation of novelists
with flagging enthusiasm, he meets a thoroughly unpleasant
student, Evan Parker. Full of swagger and self-importance, Parker
hijacks the fiction seminar, claiming, without elaborating, that he has a no-
fail plot guaranteed to be a bestseller. Bonner silently laughs at such bravado,
certain in his own experience with the publishing world that no one is that
good. Parker, cagey at revealing too many details to the class, dismisses
anything Bonner might be able to teach him with arrogance and scorn.
But then, in a private conference, Parker reveals his plot to his teacher and
Jacob Finch Bonner deflates when he realizes his student does indeed have a sensational plot
custom-made for the likes of Oprah’s Book Club. Further defeated, Jacob returns to his starving artist
existence, waiting for Evan Parker’s book to make a huge splash in the New York literary scene.
Nearly three years later Bonner hears that Evan Parker died just a short month after leaving
the MFA program. After a moment of doubt, Bonner decides to take Parker’s stunning plot
and write his own book. When he does the world shifts on its axis and the washed-up writer
is suddenly a New York Times bestseller, an Oprah Book Club pick, and the one-and-only
Stephen Spielberg wants to direct the film adaptation. Absolutely everyone is reading Crib by
Jacob Finch Bonner.
And then, after a year of exhilarating book touring, when his life is at its zenith, he receives
the first email: “You’re a thief.”
Someone out there knows what he has done. The question is, will anyone out there believe
this mysterious, yet accurate, accuser? What follows is a literary thrill ride full of twists and
turns. Bonner tries to keep the lid on the brewing scandal while simultaneously trying to
discover who knows his biggest secret. Can he keep the truth from his new wife? His agent? His
adoring fans? Or will he end up on Oprah’s couch confessing his sins and being shamed for his
crimes and losing it all?
Korelitz constructs not one, but two sensational stories in her novel. First, she relates the tale
of Jacob Finch Bonner and his “borrowing” of another writer’s idea. Second, she also creates
Evan Parker’s sensational plot that surges through the fictional world like a California brushfire.
An epic feat of fiction, The Plot will leave readers breathless at the shocking conclusion and
wondering what just happened.

Antilles’ amenity fan clubs

are hitting their stride in South Naples

BY LUCITT & CO

E ven this early in the new
community’s history, it has become
clear that Antilles’ varied amenities
are a popular fit for its homeowners,
with the Pickleball Racketeers near
the top of the list of avid enthusiasts. The
nature of pickleball as a doubles-team sport
is fun, fast, and easy to follow, allowing for
as much socializing between matches as
suits Antilles’ resort lifestyle. The Racketeers
welcome beginners and experienced players
alike and can arrange introductory lessons.

42 | Old Naples News The ancient and traditional lawn game of bocce is as sociable as it
is subtly competitive. Done right, a game can be played all day long or
until the cocktail hour has faded into night. In fact, bocce’s significance
through the ages could be attributed to the fact that it is one of the
very few team sports that can be played competently while holding a
wineglass. Consequently, the Bocce Jacks Club is an enthusiastic fan base
that can be found in Antilles’Tiki Hut most evenings around sunset,
toasting their teams.

Antilles’ brand new four-hole putting green is located between
the regulation bocce and pickleball courts and serves its golfing
population without the fees attached to private club golf memberships, a
complimentary bonus to its homeowners from JMD Development. The
Gopher Club, Go-pho’s for short, accepts all skill levels, stays out of the
mid-day sun, and favors late afternoon matches played until sunset when
Antilles’ wide and unobstructed views west toward Rookery Bay light
up the sky. In the rainy season, rainbows can be spotted hovering like ice
cream-colored spectrums from the Bay to Antilles’ own Kingfisher Lake.
Considering the putting green’s central location within the game courts
area, it may be only a matter of time until the various fan clubs devise
some sort of crossover triathlon.

Some in the Fabletes Fan Club have developed fitness regimens that
engage several Antilles’ features in and out of its exercise and cardio
training Center. Walkers take the cart path around the lake, then hit
the treadmills or recumbent bikes before swim or spa sessions. All enjoy
twenty-four-hour access to the Flamingo Club Fitness Center, favored
in particular by lifters and weight trainers. The adjacent Gathering Room
is always open for post-workout conversations and general socializing.
Overlooking the 9,000 square foot Outdoor Living Area, it is the social

center of the community, configured for dining and table games with
a big-screen TV perfect for game days and a fireplace lounge for
quiet times.

The Competitive Loungers are at the top of the list of Antilles
amenity clubs. They rival only the Bocce Jacks in time spent
perfecting their form in and around the expansive resort pool and
its sun and shade decks. Whether sunbathing, pool dipping, spa
soaking or simply reading and socializing in the shade, the loungers
are at the top of their game in Naples, courtesy of Antilles, while
overlooking the triple-tiered fountains in Kingfisher Lake and its
wetland preserve, a five-acre community resource notable for its
varied wildlife and nature sightings.

Taken together, the various fan clubs reflect a community of
homeowners who are engaged in living the good life in Antilles’
new construction residences. Elegant West Indies island-style
architecture and well-crafted features define the community with
contemporary dove grey exteriors highlighted by timeless crisp white
trims and substantial black Bahama shutters.

The balance of Antilles’ 212 units will be built in a rolling
construction format until completion. Grand coach homes currently
under construction will be completed in February and pre-sales
have been active. Priced from the mid-$500,000’s, they are Antilles’
largest three-bedroom units. Low maintenance fees will continue to
be a significant feature of the community. Construction of smaller
classic coach homes will begin shortly. They are also three-bedroom
units with screened-in lanais, one-car garages, and floorplans over
1,500 square feet under air. As starter properties, they will continue
to occupy a significant segment of the fifty-four-acre community’s
composition.

Antilles is a short drive from the fine dining and shopping
opportunities of Old Naples, and Marco Island’s world-class
fishing and beaches are equally close. It is a gated community two
miles south of Tamiami Trail East (US 41), off Collier Boulevard
(SR 951). Turn east on Port Au Prince Road and continue to The
Flamingo Club, 155 Indies Drive East, Naples, FL, 34114. Antilles
is represented by JRW Developer Resources, a division of John R.
Wood Properties. Please refer to AntillesNaples.com to register for
further information or call 239.691.4455 for an appointment. The
sales center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and noon to 5 p.m.
on Sundays. Jaime and Kerry are on-site to present the community.
