16 | North Naples News March 2026HEALING THE BRAIN WITHOUT MEDICATIONLORNA FEDELEM, MDTHE SCIENCE BEHIND TMSTranscranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive brain stimulation therapy that uses magnetic pulses — similar in strength to those in an MRI machine — to gently activate specific parts of the brain. Unlike medications, it doesn’t go into your bloodstream or involve surgery. Instead, a device with a magnetic coil is placed on the left front of the head, and short magnetic pulses pass through the skull to influence brain activity. These pulses can help neurons in targeted areas communicate better, which may improve symptoms of depression and other mental health concerns. WHAT IS THE EXOMIND DEVICE?The Exomind system is a modern version of TMS that uses patented technology to deliver these magnetic pulses with precision in the office setting. It is designed to be comfortable, efficient, and suitable for a wide range of adults seeking mental wellness support. HOW IT WORKS — IN SIMPLE TERMSYour brain works through networks of neurons - nerve cells communicating with each other. In conditions like depression or chronic stress, some of these networks can become underactive or out of sync. The magnetic pulses stimulate the left prefrontal cortex— an area involved in mood, focus, decision-making, and emotional control — encouraging neurons to reconnect and work more efficiently. This process is tied to neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to change and reorganize itself, just like when we were children! TREATMENT EXPERIENCE• Session length: Around 24 minutes per session. • Schedule: Six sessions over three weeks, though some programs include more for lasting effects. • Comfort: Most people find sessions comfortable and relaxing. There’s no sedation or anesthesia, and you can return to daily activities right after. • Side effects: Temporary sensations like mild scalp tingling or a brief headache are the most common. WHO IS AN IDEAL CANDIDATE?Exomind/TMS is often recommended for adults who:• Have depression, especially if medications have not been fully effective. • Want a non-drug, non-invasive option for mood regulation. • Are you experiencing anxiety, OCD symptoms, or difficulties with focus and emotional balance? • Seek help for “brain fog,” stress resilience, or improved mental Health & WellnessHealing the Brain

It’s not typically used for young children, individuals with implanted metallic devices near the head, or those with certain neurological conditions — a clinician will assess safety and appropriateness for each person.WHAT RESULTS CAN YOU EXPECT?Clinical data and provider reports suggest:• Depression symptom reduction: Many patients see around 50 % reduction in symptoms within a few weeks, and a substantial number achieve longer-term remission and medication discontinuation. • Emotional balance: A large proportion report feeling calmer, with better regulation of mood and stress. • Cognitive benefits: Patients often describe improved focus, clarity, and reduced “brain fog,” along with better word-finding. • Sessions are comfortable, with most people reporting a positive experience. Exomind and similar TMS technologies are part of a growing movement toward brain-focused, drug-free mental wellness. While response varies by individual, many people find relief and improvement where other treatments have been limited. The exciting future also includes research using TMS to slow Alzheimer’s Disease and memory disorders, in addition to PTSD. 18 | North Naples News March 2026PICKLEBALLYears ago, when pickleball started, it was intended for people who were limited in some capacity to be able to continue to stay active and have some competition. Today, there are multiple levels of play from beginners through professional levels. All levels want to be competitive as well as get to play, but at what cost? What are the challenges in pickleball of staying healthy and avoiding injury? There are multiple factors to address. Eye coordination, working with the inner ear, cervical mobility and stability, flexibility, joint range of motion, agility, and reaction time are all factors that play into a healthy game of pickleball.Having good vision to see the ball is very important. This can be directly related to the eyes and the prescription lenses or contacts that may work for each individual. Even if sunglasses are worn, non-polarized ones may be the best option. The court size is smaller than the tennis court, so spatial orientation and depth perception for each individual matters. Are you aware of your eyes and how they function? Exercises can be done to help strengthen the eyes. In an upright postural position while sitting, put the thumb up in the midline to your site while stationary. Then rotate the head from side to side while keeping the eyes on the fingernail of the thumb. You may start slowly at first to ensure that you are safe to do so. Then, increase the speed of the head motion somewhat. This will work some of the eye muscles and help build strength and endurance in them. Then, you can move the finger down, side to side, and up and down at an oblique angle. To work all the eye muscles. This will help your game and coordinate with other body movements.General warm-up for the whole body is a good idea prior to stepping on the court. Walking slow and fast, stepping side to side, then bouncing the same, increases the body’s readiness to react. Warm up the muscles and then start slowly and move faster within the needed range of motion for preparedness. Common injuries from overstepping can cause upper and lower extremity muscle tears (hamstrings, the calf muscle, the Achilles tendon, and rotator cuff muscles). Quick steps can cause back irritation as well. Sudden stops or twists may cause ankle sprains and knee injuries.Know your body and be aware of any limitations. You can build up to improving eye coordination and reaction time throughout the body but be smart and don’t let your competitive edge get the best of you. Prep the body before each competition for your level. If you desire to get better, progress with reaction time, flexibility, and agility. 20 | North Naples News March 2026Prevention is a foundation of functional medicine. When I think of a disease that could easily be prevented if screened for early, the thyroid immediately comes to mind. Almost 10 percent of the population is estimated to have some degree of thyroid imbalance, but only one percent is officially diagnosed. This means that nine out of ten people with early thyroid disease will likely not get the preventive help they need. I think of the thyroid gland as a mirror of our personal lifestyle. As our environment changes, so does the thyroid. Its function is designed to be activated or suppressed in response to the daily stressors and metabolic demands we face. Patients with imbalanced thyroid glands present with a variety of complaints. Some of them are:• Mental or physical fatigue• Unintentional weight gain or loss• Insulin Resistance or Metabolic Syndrome• High Cholesterol despite best dietary effortsUNBALANCED THYROID • Depression• InfertilityWhen functional doctors consider thyroid etiology for the patient’s presenting symptoms, they usually consider what kind of past or current stressors surround their patient. Stress affects production of thyroid-releasing hormone at the hypothalamic level, influences the production of the thyroidstimulating hormone at the pituitary level, and interferes with the production of the T4 hormone by the thyroid gland itself and even at the peripheral level by affecting conversion of T4 to T3 hormone. It should come as no surprise that we consider the Ayurvedic (ancient Indian) view of the body chakras, thyroid function is intimately connected with blockages in the throat chakra, related to suppressing sadness, grief, helplessness, and such.In addition to stress, we should always consider what environmental triggers could the patient potentially have been exposed to. Could an infection or some sort of inflammation create a compromised milieu for the functioning of the thyroid gland? Many different viral, bacterial, fungal, and even parasitic infections can trigger autoimmune inflammation of the thyroid gland. Therefore, identification and treatment of any such underlying infection is of utmost importance.Another consideration: is there some sort of nutritional deficiency or a presence of food sensitivity, which could potentially compromise functioning of the thyroid gland? Getting checked for food sensitivities or Celiac might get us some answers. If a particular deficiency is identified, prompt supplementation may lead to the correction of the imbalance. I must mention a common dietary question I hear from patients: how does iodine fit into the picture of a healthy thyroid? In truth, there is no straightforward answer to this question. It seems like iodine deficiency as well as the excess of iodine in the diet or supplementation, can cause disturbances with thyroid. I typically recommend that the salt the patient consumes for cooking should be iodized. Interestingly, iodine deficiency seems to be most prevalent in pregnant, vegetarian, and vegan patients. The takeaway message of this article is this: if you feel that your symptoms could be resulting from thyroid imbalance, get it checked out and consider how managing your stress, diet, and lifestyle can help you heal this common condition. Lifestyle interventions, however small, always improve thyroid function, and this is most likely thanks to the mitigation of an inflammatory state, which either directly or indirectly instigated thyroid dysfunction in the first place. However, by breaking the dilemma into clear factors—return on investment (ROI), timeline, and stress tolerance—sellers can make a confident, informed choice that aligns with their goals.RENOVATING BEFORE SALERenovations can be a powerful tool to increase a property’s appeal and market value. Buyers often gravitate toward homes that are move-in ready, and targeted upgrades can make a significant difference.Pros of Renovating:• High ROI potential: Strategic improvements such as kitchen remodels, bathroom updates, or enhanced curb appeal often deliver strong returns. These areas are known to influence buyer decisions and can justify higher asking prices.• Emotional impact: Buyers tend to connect more deeply with homes that feel fresh, modern, and ready for immediate occupancy. A wellrenovated property can spark emotional attachment, leading to faster offers.• Competitive edge: In crowded markets, renovations can help a property stand out. A modernized home may attract more attention than comparable listings that require work.CONS OF RENOVATING• Costly investment: Renovations require upfront capital, and not all sellers have the budget to take on large projects.• Time-consuming process: Even small upgrades can take weeks or months, potentially delaying the listing and sale.• Unpredictable challenges: Renovation projects rarely go exactly as planned. Delays, budget overruns, or unexpected repairs can add stress and financial strain.• Lifestyle disruption: Sellers living in the home during renovations may find the process inconvenient and stressful.SELLING AS-ISSelling a home as-is can be appealing for those who prioritize speed and simplicity. This option eliminates the hassle of renovations and allows sellers to move forward quickly.PROS OF SELLING AS-IS• Faster transaction: Without the need for upgrades, the home can be listed immediately, leading to a quicker sale.• Reduced stress: Sellers avoid the disruption of construction, budgeting, and project management.• Immediate liquidity: This option is ideal for homeowners who need quick access to funds.• Investor appeal: Properties sold as-is often attract investors or buyers who enjoy customizing homes to their preferences.CONS OF SELLING AS-IS:• Lower offers • Smaller buyer pool • Perceived stigma To make the right choice, sellers should evaluate three critical factors:• ROI: Will the renovation costs be recouped in the sale price? • Timeline: Do you need a quick sale, or can you wait for the right buyer? • Stress tolerance: Are you prepared for the disruption of renovations? There is no universal answer to the seller’s dilemma. The decision to renovate or sell as-is depends on financial goals, personal circumstances, and market conditions. For some, a few cosmetic updates may unlock maximum value, while others may find that selling quickly without renovations better suits their needs.

Edwards Asset Management is a separate entity from WFAFN.Most people who move to Florida believe they’ve handled residency correctly. • They changed their driver’s license.• They registered to vote.• They claimed homestead.• They spent “enough” time here. From their perspective, the necessary work is complete.WHEN SMALL INCONSISTENCIES ADD UPBut residency isn’t judged based on how many checklist items you completed. It’s based on your intent. And your former state will determine intent based on your actions over time.• Where are major financial decisions actually made?• Who is still advising you on your biggest moves?• Where do important documents originate?• Where does money consistently flow from and to?Individually, these details don’t feel important day-to-day. Together, though, they tell a story. And sometimes that story doesn’t match the conclusion people assume they’ve reached.HERE’S THE PATTERN I SEE MOST OFTEN.People move their lifestyle to Florida, but not their financial decision-making. Long-standing professional relationships – like a CPA or financial advisor – remain tied to another state. Estate planning reflects an earlier chapter of life. Large financial events are handled the same way they always were – just from a new address.I get why this path of least resistance makes sense. But what do you say when someone asks: If your life is centered in Florida, why do so many important decisions still point elsewhere?AS WEALTH GROWS, CONSISTENCY MATTERS MOREAs wealth grows, the standard for consistency rises too.More assets create more records.• More entities create more governance.• More advisors create more points of origin. At higher levels of wealth, residency isn’t supported by a checklist. It’s supported by coherence. When financial decisions, advisors, and structures reinforce one another, residency tends to hold up. When they don’t, explanations start sounding like…well…explanations. That’s usually when people realize they relied too heavily on what they believed was right, or what Google told them, or what they heard from a friend who did the same. But it's not the same. You and your situation are unique to you.THE QUESTION WORTH SITTING WITHFlorida residency is often treated as a finish line. Something you complete and move past. But life keeps changing.• Businesses are sold.• Liquidity increases.• Families evolve.• Estate plans get updated. The question isn’t whether Florida works for wealth. It absolutely does. The more thoughtful question is: Do your financial decisions, your advisors, and your long-term strategy reinforce the life you say you’ve built here, or do they still reflect a life elsewhere? When Florida residency works best, it doesn’t need defending. Your wealth tells the same story—consistently, clearly, and over time.
MARCH IS A MONTH OF CELEBRATION IN THE NAPLES ART DISTRICTMarch brings a special sense of celebration to the Naples Art District as the organization marks its 20th Anniversary season, For two decades, the district has been a creative hub where artists, collectors, residents, and visitors come together to experience the power of art. This milestone year is honored through a season-long celebration, with March shining brightest as the month of Arty Party and the inspiring theme Wings of Wonder. The symbol of the 20th Anniversary is the butterfly, a universal emblem of transformation, resilience, and beauty. Throughout the district, visitors will encounter artistic butterfly creations both inside and outside studio spaces. The celebration includes four murals and striking three-dimensional butterfly sculptures, adding color and vibrancy to the neighborhood. This event is in collaboration with Collier County’s ARTE VIVA! Celebration and pays tribute to one of CATHY BONACCIAuthor and Marketing & Events ManagerNaples Art Districtnature’s most extraordinary phenomena—the Monarch butterfly’s migratory journey. Each year, Monarch butterflies travel up to 2,000 miles from North America to the oyamel fir forests of Central Mexico. This multigenerational migration spans months and requires remarkable endurance, precision, and instinct. The butterflies rely on environmental cues such as temperature, sunlight, and wind patterns to navigate their way, returning to the same wintering grounds year after year. This journey mirrors the Naples Art District’s own evolution over the past 20 years—guided by vision, sustained by community, and strengthened through collaboration. The butterfly sculptures are for sale to support the district’s fundraising missions. At its core, Wings of Wonder supports the district’s mission to provide free art and cultural events for the entire community, ensuring access to creativity for all. New missions include an annual scholarship for an emerging artist, helping nurture the next generation of creative talent. We are also pursuing a partnership with the Gargiulo Center, which supports underserved migrant children with academic support and enrichment opportunities in Collier County. The month’s signature event is the Arty Party Gala, held Wednesday, March 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. and hosted by FineMark National Bank and Trust at 800 Laurel Oak Drive. Tickets are $150 per person, and every guest will take home an original work Jill Gordon, Open Studiosof art, enjoy live painting demonstrations, and a silent auction, while savoring a curated wine and spirits selection, gourmet hors d'oeuvres, and decadent desserts. Proceeds directly support the district’s ability to offer free programs and events that enrich Naples’ cultural life.Additional March events include Art After Dark on Wednesday, March 4, from 5 to 8 p.m., and Open Studios every Thursday and Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. These events invite visitors to explore working studios, meet professional artists, and purchase original art, making the Naples Art District a must-visit destination. To learn more about Wings of Wonder, purchase a butterfly sculpture, or secure tickets to the Arty Party Gala, visit naplesartdistrict.com or call 239.249.1977. 34 | North Naples News March 2026SUPPORTING OUR MUSEUM IN UNCERTAIN TIMES WITH A NEW LOCATIONThe Veterans History Museum, a nonprofit organization, relies 100 percent on volunteers and donations. We appreciate your dedicated support to honor our military veterans, especially in these dynamic, uncertain times. In 2011, the Naples Airport Authority offered a group of veterans’ mobile military artifacts displays to a space inside the airport building as a museum. It is a fitting location because the airport was built originally for training pilots during WWII. The museum began to attract interest. Since then, more than 12,000 historical artifacts from the Revolutionary War to The War on Terror, such as weapons, uniforms, medals, ribbons, and printed materials (letters, books, drawings, and posters), have been generously donated by veterans and their families from all over the world. Unfortunately at the end of 2020, 6000+ artifacts had to be put into storage due to the airport remodeling and the museum lost 70 percent of the space. As the airport remodels, we have moved October 1, 2025, to the Government Center near the courthouse located at 3331 Tamiami Trail E. Look for the blue building near the courthouse. Also the Naples Airport located at 500 Terminal Dr, Naples, FL 34104 will be used as an annex museum. They are allowing us to leave artifacts in locked cases in the lounge area for the public’s viewing pleasure. 36 | North Naples News March 2026GROWING CHANGEHOW NAPLES GARDEN CLUB PUTS THE ENVIRONMENT IN THE FOREFRONT When you hear garden club, the first thing you think of is flowers, but not so true with Naples Garden Club. Since 1953, the club has brought both an awardwinning flower show and a sell-out house & garden tour to our community each year. Floral design and horticulture have been at the heart of the club, but recently this organization has become more engaged in the environment. Club leaders have ignited this commitment in many ways. EDUCATION To make members savvier about what is happening in Florida ecosystems, there has been a focus on our water, our coastlines, and our way of life. To enlighten members, the club has had presentations on topics including microplastics, climate change, and the value of plants in improving local beaches and water. NETWORKING Naples is home to organizations that have environmental expertise to tap into. Florida Gulf Coast University’s Water School South, nationally renowned for its research, is located within the Naples Botanical Garden. The botanical garden itself champions that the key to healthy ecosystems is plants. It works with area and even international decision makers to encourage the correct plant choices in addressing environmental issues. The local League of Women Voters has been sharing with groups its plastics research. PROPOSING SMALL CHANGES When its 250 members make small changes in their behavior, it adds up to a big impact. Carpooling, making green choices in the kitchen, cleaning, health and beauty products are all topics covered at meetings. The slow fashion vs. fast fashion concept has been highlighted. Members are encouraged to embrace “refuse” as the fourth tenet of the recycle, reuse, reduce strategy for waste management. EXPANDING REACH Members now encourage the children in their lives to get off the sidewalk and into nature to help them relate better to the earth. The 1000 attendees of the House & Garden Tour on January 31 all received aluminum water bottles rather than plastic, Naples Flower Show & Garden MarketMarch 13-14at Naples Botanical GardenUnder the Big Topalong with a message about the switch. The club has an endowed fund at FGCU, which annually provides environmental science scholarships. To date, 23 students have been recipients. Naples Garden Club awards grants to local nonprofits to support carefully vetted environmental projects.Perhaps the most important thing the Naples Garden Club does is cultivate optimism. With so much environmental news that can be discouraging, this garden club offers a reminder that progress is possible – one home and one garden at a time.

38 | North Naples News March 2026A RECORD TO CELEBRATECCPS GRADUATION RATES REACH A NEW HIGH CHAD OLIVER Chief Communication OfficerCollier County Public SchoolsCollier County has much to celebrate when it comes to public education. On January 13, 2026, the Florida Department of Education released high school graduation rates for the class of 2025, and the results mark a significant milestone for Collier County Public Schools (CCPS).With a four-year graduation rate of 94.4 percent, CCPS outperformed the statewide average of 92.2 percent by more than two percentage points. Among Florida’s 67 school districts, CCPS ranked 13th overall, a notable improvement from 25th place for the class of 2024. This achievement represents the highest graduation rate in district history and the strongest performance in the six-county Southwest Florida region. While the numbers are impressive, graduation rates represent far more than rankings or percentages. They reflect the efforts of students who successfully completed four years of high school by meeting academic expectations, finishing required coursework and assessments, and preparing for the next chapter of their lives. This success is the result of years of focused effort across Collier County schools, including high-quality instruction, careful monitoring of student progress, and targeted support for individual needs. From strong elementary foundations to high school counseling and graduation planning, students benefit from systems designed to keep them on track. The individuals behind the statistics are highlighted through the CCPS Senior Spotlight recognition, some of whom are featured in this article. Each student was selected by their high school as a standout representative of the class of 2025. These seniors were recognized not only for academic achievement but also for their leadership, character, and positive influence on their school communities. Together, they represent the many pathways students take to success.Superintendent Dr. Leslie C. Ricciardelli praised the achievement of the class of 2025:“I am incredibly proud of the class of 2025 for their resilience and dedication in reaching this significant milestone. Their success reflects not only their own hard work, but also the consistent guidance, expertise, and commitment of our teachers, administrators, and staff at every stage of a student’s journey from elementary through high school.”Dr. Ricciardelli also emphasized that she remains committed to supporting students who need additional assistance to meet graduation requirements, ensuring all learners have access to the resources and opportunities necessary to move confidently toward their future goals.CCPS held a mid-year commencement ceremony in January to celebrate students who needed additional time to complete their requirements. These graduates are not included in the state’s four-year graduation calculation, but their achievement remains meaningful and reflects the district’s commitment to supporting students until they reach the finish line.As CCPS looks ahead, this record-breaking graduation rate serves as both a celebration and a reminder of what is possible when schools, families, and the community work together. The class of 2025 has set a strong example and is prepared for the next chapter of their journey through life. 40 | North Naples News March 2026HOLOCAUST MUSEUM & COHEN EDUCATION CENTER In the late 1990s, Golden Gate Middle School students created a classroom project on the Holocaust called “Out of the Ashes.” Led by teachers David Bell and Michelle Lee, the seventh graders did more than just review their history textbook. They interviewed with local residents who were Holocaust survivors and concentration camp liberators. Learning the personal stories of these eyewitnesses to history changed the students. Going forward, they vowed to share with everyone the crucial importance of treating each other respectfully and stepping up to help someone in need. “Out of the Ashes” would turn out to have a lasting impact on the SWFL community – the project inspired the 2001 founding of the Holocaust Museum & Cohen Education Center in Naples, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2026. The museum carries on the students’ mission to educate the next generation and the public. It teaches the lessons of the Holocaust to inspire action against hatred and to promote mutual respect. To date, the museum has impacted almost 1,000,000 individuals with its community presence and programs. As a trusted steward of Holocaust history, it is committed to preserving history with accuracy, care, and integrity, and sharing that history through the stories of individuals who experienced it.The museum’s Oral History Project preserves the important testimonies of survivors, liberators, and eyewitnesses. Its permanent collection of over 5,000 unique documents, photographs, and artifacts safeguards these items to ensure that history is taught accurately and responsibly. Now, more than 80 years since the end of World War II, saving these unique testimonies and items is more important than ever. The world needs to hear their stories. If you are a survivor, liberator, or eyewitness, interested in recording your testimony or donating materials, please contact the Museum at 239.263.9200 or by email ([email protected]). If you are a survivor or the descendant of a survivor and considering donating original materials to the museum, the time is now – while those who know the stories and history of those materials are still here to share them. The museum collects and preserves photographs, documents like diaries and correspondence, three-dimensional artifacts like toys or other materials, and textiles like clothing or armbands. It ensures they can be shared with future generations to tell the stories of individuals who suffered or died in the Holocaust.By sharing the unique personal stories of the period, the museum hopes to make a personal connection between those who experienced the Holocaust and a visitor today. It’s that personal connection that builds empathy and leads to responsibility and action and inspires the next generation of upstanders. The museum also offers docent-led, student and private group tours, popup museum exhibitions, and a speakers bureau. More information is available at hmcec.org.Today, thanks to the initial inspiration provided by the “Out of the Ashes” project, the museum is a thriving cultural institution and a beacon of hope, teaching history to inspire action. As a trusted steward of Holocaust history, it is committed to preserving history with accuracy, care, and integrity, and sharing that history through the stories of “individuals who experienced it.\"

THE RESILIENCY SOLUTION Combining Character Education, Charitable Involvement, & Academics Teaching Children to Care About Each Other and the World Around Them ... THE WHY - THE PROBLEM Children today face mounting pressures that threaten both their academic success and emotional well-being. Hate, bullying, division, and insufficient access to resources further compound these struggles. Without timely intervention, these pressures can become insurmountable barriers, robbing children of their full potential. THE HOPE - THE SOLUTION Resilience, the ability to adapt to and overcome adversity is not innate; it is a skill that must be developed. Each week, the Charity for Change program addresses the urgent need to foster resilience and support the mental wellbeing of young children by giving them the tools they need to navigate negative influences. Children learn empathy and generosity through curriculum content and charitable projects. THE RESULTS By teaching children to practice nine key character traits during the school year and summer, we build their confidence, sense of purpose, and resilience, leading to success in school, future careers, and life. • COOPERATION • INTEGRITY • RESPONSIBILITY • PERSEVERA • RESPECT NCE • TOLER tniettsKIP ANce • SE. c Serving 24,344 students from: l.J:-coNrRoL • .t. \"4''1 500+ 33 $ Plorida Schools F,lorida Counties

44 | North Naples News March 2026reviewed byannakarrashis is a classic you may not know about. While there was a film adaptation in 2003, it wasn’t a huge hit in the US. Rightly so, as it is less bombastic and thrilling and more quietly charming. Still, the BBC lists it as #82 on their top 200 Best Loved Novels.I read it first in 1999, still in my twenties, and still very romantic in my sensibilities. I have read it at least once a decade since, and it remains one of my top five favorite books of all time. Each time I reread it, I am captured by a new perspective that I had not seen before.Cassandra Mortmain is our protagonist. She is just 17, and we meet her in the first sentence, sitting in the kitchen sink. Or, rather, her feet are in the sink, and she is sitting on the draining board, trying to use the last of the daylight to write in her journal. She is determined to be a writer, and since she is convinced her poetry is awful, she is attempting prose and is endeavoring to capture everything that goes on in her home. But what a home! Her father, a critically acclaimed novelist, took a 40-year lease on a castle with the hopes it would inspire him to write his second novel after the rousing success of his first. This happened decades ago, and the royalty money is dwindling fast. The castle crumbles around them, and they do with less and less until they are patching ragged clothes, and the hired hand takes out a second job to help out.Cassandra has a younger brother, Thomas, and an older sister, Rose. Rose is just a few years younger than their stepmother, Topaz, who is an artist’s model and a bit of a bohemian free spirit. At 21, practical Rose knows the only way to save her family from starvation is to marry wealthy. So, when their new landlords, the American brothers Simon and Neil Cotton, show up, Rose does everything in her power to make Simon fall in love with her.Through it all, Cassandra uses her sharp observation, subtle wit, and lucid descriptions to tell the story. She notices everything, except her own growing feelings for the elder Cotton brother. Her three journals, which make up the novel and divide it into parts, are delightful with fresh language. A classic, for sure. Look up this one, and you’ll add a new favorite to your shelf you find yourself returning to, again and again.∞ AUTHOR PROFILEBorn in 1896 in Lancashire, England, Smith is most famous for her children’s book, The Hundred and One Dalmatians (1956). 48 | North Naples News March 2026Genesis of Naples, privately owned and operated by the Zellers family of Naples since 2018, is proud to announce that construction has officially begun on its new, standalone Genesis facility at the intersection of Pine Ridge Road and Interstate 75 in North Naples. For family members and the entire team, this groundbreaking represents far more than the start of a building — it is the realization of a dream that has endured challenge after challenge and never wavered.“This moment carries tremendous emotion for all of us,” said Tim Zellers, owner of Genesis of Naples. “We believed in this project with our whole hearts, even when the path felt uncertain and the obstacles seemed endless. What pushed us forward was our responsibility to our family business, our customers, and a community that has trusted us for generations. They deserve this facility, and we refused to let setbacks stop us.”When complete, the new 12-acre Genesis campus will showcase more than 30,000 square feet dedicated exclusively to Genesis auto sales, service and luxury customer experiences — one of the first of its kind in the worldwide Genesis network. The facility will join a growing number of new standalone locations being built in the United States, offering service, parts and a premium selection of vehicles, and will be convenient to shoppers across Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero and the east coast of Florida. The project, originally scheduled to begin in early 2025, faced an unexpected and prolonged delay due to the complex coordination required around a longstanding GENESIS OF NAPLES BREAKS GROUND ON STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITYCOMPLETION AND GRAND OPENING ANTICIPATED IN EARLY 2027We are building more than a dealership. And even when a mutual agreement couldn’t be reached with a neighboring property owner, we pressed forward — leaning on the permitting process, leaning on perseverance, leaning on prayer, and leaning on friends who reminded us to keep going. And we did.”The delay affected more than 5,000 current Genesis auto owners throughout the region. “Our customers showed remarkable patience and grace,” Zellers said. “Their encouragement, loyalty, and belief in what we’re building gave us strength. They reminded us why we were fighting so hard. They are the heartbeat of this project — and they are absolutely worth every moment of the wait.”The new Genesis of Naples will feature its own dedicated showroom, service and maintenance department, replacing the Zellers family’s current location adjacent to its Tamiami Hyundai dealership. Throughout the construction process, Genesis of Naples will continue serving customers from the shared location with a newly renovated Hyundai at 6780 Airport-Pulling Rd. N., supported by an expanded Genesis-dedicated staff to ensure a premium experience every step of the way.“This project is not just metal, concrete and glass,” Zellers concluded. “It’s a testament to grit. To faith. To the unshakeable belief that doing the right thing — even when it’s hard — always leads somewhere extraordinary. We are building more than a dealership. We are building a legacy, a promise, and a new chapter for Genesis in Naples. We cannot wait to welcome everyone into this new home soon.”Genesis of Naples has consistently ranked among the top five volume Genesis franchises in the continental United States. It also is one of only a few U.S. retailers to receive the Circle of Prestige Award of excellence in sales, service, guest experience and overall satisfaction (2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023).The Genesis brand is a luxury vehicle division of Hyundai Motor Group that was introduced in 2008. The Zellers family also owns Tamiami Ford at 1471 AirportPulling Rd. N. The Tamiami dealership brand has been a force in Naples since Arlie Zellers launched Tamiami Ford in 1973.
