Art Fair and Event Manager, Patrick Benes, believes the
Naples Art Institute fairs are one-of-a-kind, “I am delighted
our outdoor art fairs remain top-ranked in the country, as
this continuously motivates us to produce spectacular and
fresh events.” Naples Art Institute outdoor art fairs have been
ranked by Sunshine Artist Magazine among the top 10 best
fine art fairs in the U.S. and have also been named to the Art
Fair Source Book’s “BLUE CHIP 100” Fine Art Events. The
2023 editions will feature works from over 1000 professional
artists from over 30 states and abroad, using 18 unique
mediums, including acrylic/oil paintings, ceramics, digital art,
fiber/leather, glass, wood, and others.

Rounding out the amazing features of these art fairs is
that the city of Naples closes down Fifth Avenue South to
vehicular traffic, allowing attendees the opportunity to walk
down the avenue and engage with the artists. It’s a wonderful
opportunity to discover new artists, purchase art, and enjoy
the beauty of Naples.

EMILY JAMES GALLERY

inspiration from the heart

Southerner Emily James is known for her
versatility and custom artwork. Her extraor-
dinary use of colors, and creative talent on
canvas has garnered tremendous attention
and has made her popular both nationally and
internationally. Her latest pieces are classical
yet contemporary, and exhibit a dimensional,
textural element as well.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Emily is a native Florida artist who has
received numerous awards and honors for her
work. Three years in a row, she has been the
official artist for the Masters golf tournament
in Georgia. Two of Emily’s images have been
among the top 50 selling prints worldwide, and she is the only artist in the United
States selected by the top three fine art publishers. A signature member of the
Florida Watercolor Society, Emily has been accepted into Watercolor U.S.A., and
she is featured in the book, The Best of Watercolor. Her work has been exhibited at
the High Museum in Atlanta, and she has been named an Outstanding American
Woman in the Arts.

capture the essence of life—the raw energy and movement of my subjects, be it
baby sea turtles emerging from their nests, life beneath the blue seas, the translu-
cence of cresting waves, or the tranquility of soul expressed in our turquoise waters
converging with the subtropical landscape. Whenever I paint, I want to convey a
sense of being surrounded by beauty and a slice of paradise. In every rich texture
and color choice I have selected, my intention is to bring forth and share the joy of
being alive in this moment.

“It is important for me that my art be experiential, and I want my paintings to
be touched and enjoyed by the viewer.’’

34 | Old Naples News want to lose it. I know I need to lose 35 pounds. I know my clothes
are fitting too tightly. The last thing I want to do is go up a size and
spend money on large-sized clothing. Rather than spend on a closet
full of XL clothes, I have decided for the end of this year to invest in
my health.

Weight loss education and working with Cederquist coaches have
helped me win the weight loss battle and live my best life. I am shedding

pounds weekly without having to starve myself! Who would have
thought that is possible!? What I do know is the answer is right
in the local grocery stores.
I have more energy, eat smaller portions, crave sweets less,
and am in control of my body. Health is wealth. I am going
into the new year in a smaller dress size and am very happy to
celebrate it. I learned it is better to eat more at the beginning

and middle of the day and less after 4 p.m. I learned to get my
carbs in only at breakfast or lunch. I only buy foods that are high
in protein and low in carbs. That is what keeps people full, and it is
working for me.

But the real way to learn what to buy at the market and how to
kill it in the weight loss department is to have a free consultation
with Cederquist Medical Wellness Center. They can prescribe

weight loss supplements that aid in losing weight faster. The
biggest change I have seen is in knowing when to eat the protein
and carbs, and how much to eat. I learned what are the best

snacks, desserts, and foods to buy in the market. So many
people snack all day but may be eating empty calories. By
learning the best brands at the market for optimum protein
and low carbs, I am winning the battle, thanks to Cederquist

Isn’t it time to have a wonderful New Year’s feeling that you are

with more than 7,000 full-time and part-time employ-
ees, we understand occasional absences from classes and front offices are
unavoidable. The continuity of education is maintained by guest teachers
and assistants who are well-versed in the policies, procedures, and expec-
tations of the classroom and school.

“If you are retired and looking for a great part-time job, this is the
perfect job,” explained guest teacher Louis Depaolo. The guest teacher’s
role in the educational process is very important. Providing stability in
the classroom, instructional programs, and school support processes is
essential. Through professional training and experience, guest teachers
and guest assistants provide students with instruction and support to
minimize negative effects on student achievement that may result from
the absences of employees.

“We really love having the same guest teachers come because they
build relationships with our students, and that’s really important to us,”
said Golden Gate Middle School’s Assistant Principal Christina Wenn-
lund. “Guest teachers are important because they help us fill a desperate
need that we have.”

A guest teacher should expect the needs and intentions of a class-
room teacher to be communicated prior to taking charge of the class;
conversely, a classroom teacher should expect the plans and assignments,
which he/she has left, to be carried out by the guest teacher assigned to
the classroom.

We currently have more than 800 active guest teachers and guest as-
sistants within our Guest Teacher Program. However, not all of them
work on assignments on a consistent basis, which is why we actively re-
cruit guest teachers and assistants year-round.

In some situations, full-time employees must separate from full-time
positions for family and personal reasons. Therefore, we also allow sep-
arating employees to request to remain active with the district in guest
teacher and guest assistant positions, in lieu of leaving/separating from
the district altogether. Allowing separating employees to maintain their

M. Fairbanks, author of The Lost Boys of Montauk: The True Story
of the Wind Blown, Four Men Who Vanished at Sea, and the Survi-
vors They Left Behind.

In March 1984, four men left Long Island’s Montauk Harbor
on a commercial fishing boat called Wind Blown. A week out at
sea, a severe nor’easter struck. The boat disappeared, and the bod-
ies of the crew were never recovered—a shocking loss that rever-
berated in the eastern Long Island fishing community.

The book goes beyond the background of the crew and the im-
pact their loss had on their survivors; Fairbanks also details the shift
of Montauk and the nearby Hamptons from working-class villag-
es to a summer playground for New York City’s wealthy. The Wall
Street Journal called the book “riveting.” Vanity Fair said it provides
“a sweeping, and often devastating, portrait of a community on the
brink of transformation.”

Fairbanks’ journalism experience includes positions at The New
York Times, Boston Globe, HuffPost, Newsweek, and The Atlantic.

Each presentation in the series will include a breakfast buffet,
featuring choices of hot and cold entrees, including eggs with
bacon and sausage, cereals, yogurts, fruits, a variety of breads,
juice, and coffee.
