HUMAN BODY SYSTEMS
What is a SYSTEM?
A system is many parts
that work together to
do a function.
Human body is made up of MANY DIFFERENT SYSTEMS.
The systems all work together to help the body to function.
The systems are:
Digestive system Breathing system Transport system
The systems are:
Nervous system Muscular system Skeletal system
SKELETAL
SYSTEMS
The hard parts you feel are called BONES.
Skull
Rib cage Arm bone When all the bones are
Pelvis Spine together they are called
Leg bone SKELETON.
Functions:
1. to give body support.
2. to protects important organs in
your body.
By the time you're
an adult, you'll have
exactly
206 bones.

Pelvis / Hip bone
Leg bone
MUSCULAR
SYSTEMS
The upper arm
has two main
muscles.
When you move your arm, the bones are pulled
by the muscles.
Muscle pulls
the bone
Function:
for our movement
with the help of the
bones.
TRANSPORT
SYSTEM
The transport system is made up of several parts.
The main organs are:
heart Blood vessels Blood
Function:
Pump blood to all parts of
the body.
The blood contains OXYGEN
that your body needs.
A doctor use the stethoscope to
listen to your heart beat.
The heart is the busiest muscle beating 72
every minute - about 2.5 billion times
during a lifetime.
BREATHING
SYSTEM
The air around us contain oxygen and other
gases.
oxygen
Carbon dioxide
The breathing system is made up of several parts.
nose The function of the
mouth breathing system is
windpipe to give oxygen to
lungs
our blood.
When you breathe in, oxygen
enters the nose and mouth.
It then moves down a tube
called windpipe.
From the windpipe down to
your lungs.
Carbon dioxide gas is removed from
our body when we breathe out.
The right lung is slightly larger than the left lung.
Smoking Damages Your Lungs
Do you smoke?
If you smoke this is what
your lungs will look like.
If you don't smoke this is
what your lungs will look
like.
NERVOUS
SYSTEM
The nervous system is made up of several parts.
The main organs are:
brain Spinal cord nerves
Function:
To control your body.
It controls your sense of
smell, taste, hear, sight, think
and dream.
The brain
The brain is the
centre of the
nervous system.
The spinal cord
The spinal cord is
where messages
from the body
travel to the brain.
The nerves
The nerves ‘read’ and
‘feel’ the SENSES of
your body and send
the message through
the spinal cord to the
brain.
Lack of oxygen in the brain for 5 to 10
minutes results in permanent brain
damage.
DIGESTIVE
SYSTEM
We get energy from the food that we eat.
In order to get the energy from food, the food must be
broken down into smaller pieces.
How small the food need to be broken down?
HOW SMALL?
Until it is small enough to be absorbed into
the blood.
Smaller than the salt
mouth The digestive
gullet system is made up
of several parts.
Stomach
Small
intestine
Large
intestine
mouth The process of
breaking food from
Small the mouth to the
intestine
small intestine is
called
DIGESTION.
MOUTH GULLET STOMACH SMALL INTESTINE
REMEMBER!!!
The breaking of food mostly happens in the
small intestine.
Food that are not digested passes through the large intestine.
The undigested food is called faeces.
The feaces are then stored
in the rectum.
The feaces exit the body
through the anus.

On average, the human male adult small
intestine is 6.9 metre long and the female is
7.1 metre.
The large intestine is approximately 1.5 metre long.
