Course Etiquette In an effort to ensure that everyone’s game of golf is enjoyable would you please observe these few rules of etiquette. Players should play “ready golf” regardless of honour or distance from the hole, except for Matchplay competitions where honour and distance is retained. No one should move, talk or stand close to, behind the ball or the hole when a player is addressing the ball or making a stroke. In the interest of all, players should play without delay. No player should play until the players in front are out of range. Players searching for a ball should signal the players behind them to pass as soon as it becomes apparent that the ball will not be easily found. They should not search for three minutes before doing so. They should not continue play until the players following them have passed and are out of range. Place your bag and trolley on the same side of the green for the next tee. When the play of a hole has been completed, players should immediately leave the putting green and mark scorecards off the green. In general, two balls have precedence over any three or four balls and three balls have precedence over four balls. However, if a group of any size fails to keep up with the group in front or unduly delays those following behind, they should give way regardless of format. A single player has standing but need not be let through. A single player may play two balls providing there is no-one behind them. Play should be pre-booked online and commence from either the 1st, 4th or 11th holes. If not starting on the 1st , a clear gap should be visible on the preceding hole prior to teeing off. On quiet days, players may change sequence so long as doing so does not interfere with other players on the course. When play is restricted to the old-nine members must only play a single round of nine holes, unless a competition or official match is being played. Players are requested to: Repair pitch marks, Replace divots and/or use divot bags, Rake bunkers after playing from them, leave rakes in bunkers. Any ball that lands on an incorrect green must be lifted, without penalty, and dropped not nearer the hole off the green and green surrounds at the nearest point of relief.

Suspension of Competition Play Immediate Suspension of Play for reasons of DANGER As determined by Competition Organiser for the day or the Professional, in the event of High Winds or Lightning, ONE PROLONGED BLAST on a siren will signify an Immediate Suspension of Play. Players must mark their balls and return to the Clubhouse immediately, without playing any further strokes. The Penalty for breach of this Immediate Suspension of Play Rule is Disqualification. Suspension of Play for other reasons As determined by Competition Organiser for the day or the Professional, if play is Suspended, other than for reasons of danger (for example water-logging, fog, critical accident), the signal for Suspension of Play will be THREE SHORT BLASTS, REPEATED. Players must complete the hole they are playing, or they may mark their balls where they lie. They must not start playing the following hole. The Penalty for breach of this Suspension of Play Rule is Disqualification. Resumption of Play The signal for Resumption of Play is TWO SHORT BLASTS, REPEATED. Play must not be resumed until the Competition Organiser or Professional has ordered a Resumption of Play. The Penalty for breach of this Resumption of Play Rule is Disqualification. The policy in no way replaces a Player’s responsibility for his own safety, or his rights under Rule 6-8a(ii) to discontinue play if he believes there is danger from lightning.

Health & Safety In the event of an emergency call 999 and inform 01746 762045 (Pro Shop) or 01746 763315 (Clubhouse). Emergency postcode WV16 4SF. All accidents and incidents, including near misses, must be reported to the Clubhouse where there are accident books behind the Bar and in the Pro Shop. Players must shout Fore! if their ball is wayward and might cross an adjacent fairway, road, foot path or might strike another person. First aid boxes are located outside the Secretary’s Office, in the Kitchen, Green Keeper’s Office and on Vehicles. A defibrillator is located outside the Secretary’s office together with an emergency survival bag. Ambulance access to the course is from the Club House car park near the 18th Green, vehicle pathways next to the 16th Tee and the 9th Green, please keep access clear. Green Keepers have priority on the course at all times; please make them aware prior to playing your shot. Notice of the application of chemicals, or other isolated work posing a risk, will be displayed near the 1st tee. Take care near Green Keeper’s shed when walking to 4th and 16th tee due to equipment. Please take care when crossing Stanley Lane between the 3rd Green and 4th Tee and the 17th Green and 18th Tee. There is a public footpath running alongside the river on the 6th , 7 th and 13th fairways and it is paramount that the public are given priority at all times. If there are people in range of your shot, please do not play until they are a safe distance away. Take care when playing the 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th holes which run alongside Stanley Lane. Please wait for any vehicles, bicycles, or pedestrians to clear the lane. Take care when entering the lane in search of lost golf balls. Do not climb down the riverbank or enter the river. The tee shot on the 1st hole is blind (over a hill) – do not tee-off until the bell has been rung or you are aware that the group in front is sufficiently out of range. The second shot to the 18th green is also blind – please wait until the bell has been rung or you are aware that the green has been cleared. Players using buggies must avail themselves of full operating instructions and agree to our buggy policy as provided by the Pro Shop. Golf is a hazardous sport which you undertake at your own risk. These guidelines are not exhaustive. You are responsible for your own and other’s safety. Take care over uneven surfaces, steps and steep inclines. Use paths and handrails. Stop play when foghorn is sounded at times of fog or lightning. Do not commence play if you cannot see the yellow disc on 1st or 4th holes.
