The Debates over Abortion
My body my choice. In our world past, present, and soon to be future there have
been many arguments and protest about women getting abortions. Why should women
get an abortion? Why should people care about what women do to her body and the fetus
that she is caring? And why should it matter? As I have grown up I have wondered why
people should care about what women want to do with her baby. I choose this topic in
particular because I agree with the topic of women having an abortion. Yes, there are
many negatives about the situation. But there are also some positive’s too. What’s going
on right now is the presidential election. And there is a big argument going on between
the runner ups president Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. The two are bumping heads
about the topic of should women be punished or allow to have an abortion or not. Also I
have read in time magazine the two runner ups are really having a big discussion over the
topic, but as we all know this topic is not new. People have been arguing about women
having an abortion for many years now. And this topic will not go away. We will still
arguing about this five to ten years from now. This paper will discuss anti-abortion and
pro-abortion.
First there are the anti-abortion people. These people are against women having
abortions like for an example, Donald Trump. Trump has recently said that “the doctor or
any other person performing the illegal act upon a women would be held legally
responsible, not the women”. And he also stated that “the woman is a victim in this case
as is the life in her womb”. I do not believe no is the victim. If she decides to make that
choice than so let it be. In a way I do see where trump is coming from, because in the
1900s when women tried to and get abortions illegally it was very dangerous. The people

that use to do the procedures for the women some of them were not even doctor’s or
qualified to even do the procedure. Therefore it was not save, the tolls and the equipment
were not serialized, and it was very questionable about what they were doing. During that
time frame there was a very high risk of during the whole procedure wrong, the women
could have gotten a disease or even die. Also it was illegal. This is why “abortions have
been divisive issues in American politics”. But have people ever thought about how the
women feel about the situation? No they have not. All of the anti-abortion people always
jump to conclusion. They think all it is, is murdering an insistent child, or they think it’s
considered a crime or they end up saying it take two to make the baby. Yes, all of this is
true but have to look at the positives about it. What if the women were raped and she is
not ready, not capable, or is not financially ready to take care of the baby? Trump stated
in his presidential conference that only the doctor should get punished not the women.
But why? Why would you just punish the doctor? In that case you might as well punish
the women too. She was the one that wanted to get the abortion. The doctor did not put a
gun to her head and threaten her and said you better do this abortion. She is the one
killing the baby it is her choice. Also by women having abortions the fetus can feel pain
from it, but they can only feel pain at a certain amount of weeks during the pregnancy.
And by having an abortion it can reduce the number of adoptable babies. Because when
women do not have an abortion and they do not want the baby they set him/her up for
adoption.
Abortion was legalized in the United States in 1973, when the Supreme Court
declared that a woman’s constitutional right to privacy protected her decision to end a
pregnancy. Therefore, no one care about what a women wants to do with her body. Now

Hillary Clinton is pro-abortion so she has no problem with women getting abortions. She
stated in the Democratic debate in April, she said that the right to choose “goes to the
heart of who we are as women, our rights, our autonomy, our ability to make our own
decisions.” So it should not even matter if abortions are legal now. It’s the women’s
choice on what she wants to do with her baby. She has control over that people should
not care if it’s not they’re body. Depending on how far a women is in her pregnancy the
fetus does not feel a thing. Women who get abortions are less likely to suffer mental
health problems than the women that second guess there selves. Such as they do not have
to worry or stress about regret, denial, and guilt of giving up the baby. Unlike if you do
get the abortion woman feel more relief, and they feel like they made the right decision.
People that are anti-abortion do not understand what women be going through. What if a
women is pregnant and she feel she cannot take care of the baby. I would not want to
bring an unwanted baby into this world because then the baby is going to go through the
struggle of going from foster home to foster home. Also what if she is not financially
ready to take care a baby or not in the right state of mind to take of the baby.
In conclusion, people have different opinions and always will. This essay was
about looking at how serious the topic women getting abortions really is and on how
differently people think of abortions. People will still argue around the world is getting an
abortion a good or bad decision ten years from now. The topic will never go away no
time soon. As you can see probably if not every presidential debate the runner-ups to
become president will be ask about what they’re opinion is about the topic.
