Dear friends and neighbors,

Northeastern Connecticut is home to more than 80 farms that produce a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, meat,
dairy, honey and other goods for your enjoyment. It is also home to 12 farmers markets offering fresh, local and
seasonal foods.
Local farms are an important part of our economy and vital to our region’s unique character and quality of
life. These small businesses employ local residents and support the rich agricultural fabric of our communities.
Working farmlands are integral to the scenic landscapes of Northeastern Connecticut, and give us places to
connect with one another at farmers markets, farm stands, and agricultural fairs.
While things may look different as a result of COVID-19, the good news is that eating fresh, local food has become
even easier. Online ordering, curbside pickup, delivery and other ways of shopping have made it convenient to
find and purchase locally grown foods. Farmers markets throughout the region are open for business. CSAs also
continue to play an important role in access, allowing customers to secure fresh fruits and vegetables for the
duration of the season. If you visit a farm, you will find the safety of customers and staff has been prioritized,
with new systems for contactless pick-your-own and payment.
The opportunity to meet a local farmer is right outside your door! This guide offers up-to-date information
about farms that are producing food in Northeastern Connecticut and the various retail options where you can
purchase their products.
