Figure 1: Batik Painting
Batik painting is one of the unique elements in Homestay Teluk Ketapang. There are two types
of batik, the hand drawn and the stamped. Recently there are also machine printed batik which
design is clearer and color on one side only. The best learn on how to batik painting is seeking
knowledge from the expertise. Hand drawn batik uses a small copper cup and fountain pen like
‘janting’ with melted wax to draw across the length and breadth of the cloth. Dyeing process is
like filling color on the drawing block, only different is the outline is wax instead of pen. The
waxed areas resist dye. The cloth will then send to ‘boil’ in warm water in order to get rid of the
wax after it is soaked in chemical that makes the color stay. Today batik is not only used for
outfits but some innovative commercial individual has made full use of this beautiful and artistic
textile into making bags, cushion covers, curtains, slippers etc.

PROGRAM PLANNING AND DESIGN
4.1 Propose tourism Image for the study area
Figure 2: Snorkeling
At Teluk Ketapang Homestay, we focused on Eco-Adventure Tourism. We suggest that all of the
Eco-Adventure packages linked with one of the island in Terengganu which is Kapas Island.
First is Snorkelling, Snorkelling is the art of swimming when fitted with a diving mask, a
rounded breathing tube called a snorkel, and usually swimming fins on or across a body of water.
A wetsuit can also be worn in colder waters. The use of this equipment helps the snorkeler to
view underwater attractions with relatively little effort for extended periods and to breathe face-
down on the surface.
Snorkelling, particularly at tropical resort locations, is a common recreational activity. The
primary attraction is the chance to experience underwater life without the complicated equipment
and preparation needed for scuba diving in a natural environment. Owing to how little effort
there is, and without the exhaled bubbles of scuba-diving equipment, it appeals to all ages. The
two surface disciplines of the underwater sport of fin swimming are based on it.
Snorkeling is also used by scuba divers while on the surface, in underwater activities such as
underwater hockey and underwater rugby, and in search and rescue teams as part of water-based
searches.

Figure 3: Anyaman Daun Kelapa
One of the activities that Teluk Ketapang Homestay has provided is anyaman daun kelapa,
Coconut staple is known to have a thousand benefits. All parts of the tree from the fruit, tree
trunks, leaves, to the bones of the leaves can be transformed into many things. Of all the parts of
the coconut tree, the leaves are the part that can be turned into more things than any other part.
By weaving, coconut leaves can be made into mats, hats, bags, and children's toys. Hm, the
creativity side is really needed in this case.
Figure 4: Mencanting Batik\
Batik is an Indonesian wax-resist dyeing technique applied to whole fabric. Java, Indonesia,
emerged from this technique. Batik is created either by using a sputtered tool called a tjanting to
draw dots and lines of the resist, or by printing the resist with a copper stamp called a cap. The
wax applied is resistant to colouring and thus enables the craftsman to selectively colour by
soaking the cloth in one colour, extracting the wax with boiling water and repeating if several
colours are needed.

Figure 5: Wau Making
Wau bulan is an intricately crafted Malaysian moon-kite usually flown in the Malaysian state of
Kelantan (normally with floral motifs). It is one of the national icons of Malaysia, with some
others being the hibiscus. The reverse side of Malaysia's fifty-cent coin (1989 series) features an
intricately decorated wau bulan with a top lobster. The Malaysia Airlines (MAS) logo is based
on the Cat Kite (wau kucing). In Malaysia, there are several types of wau, each with its own
specialty.

4.4 Interpretive Guiding For CBT Activities.
Figure 7: Hiking at Bukit Singa
The most interesting activities is Hiking and we choose ‘Bukit Singa’ that located in Kapas
Island. Besides snorkelling and kayaking, one of the best things to do in Pulau Kapas is hiking at
Bukit Singa (Lion's Hill). Surrounded by steep cliffs and coastal rocks, this popular hiking spot
in Pulau Kapas is perfect for beginners. While some adventure seekers have attempted to hike up
Bukit Singa on their own, we recommend first-timers to hire a guide or join a tour group, which
can be arranged at the resort or tour agencies at Marang Jetty. Once you're ready, follow the
guide's lead as they'll take you up the staircase. The steps can get slippery on rainy days, so make
sure to wear sneakers or proper footwear.
While some parts of the staircase have also collapsed due to the strong waves, the hike to Bukit
Singa requires you to walk along the coastal rocks, wade through the waist-deep water or slide
down the steep trails. Just to be safe, you can wear a pair of work gloves to avoid scratches.
There are no clear directions along the way, so here's where your guide's expertise comes in.
Once you've reached your destination, make sure to take a gorgeous snapshot of Bukit Singa!
The lion's head formation is not visible from the peak, and it's said to be clearer when viewed
from the side. Still, the sweeping landscape of the South China Sea is a sight to behold. It's very
windy here too, and remembers not to stand or sit too close to the edge.

CHAPTER 5
MARKETING COMMUNITY BASED TOURISM
5.1 Suggest and discuss 8P’s for the study area
Marketing is an operation, collection of institutions and processes for developing, interacting,
providing and sharing value-added services for clients, customers, partners and society at large.
Marketing comes in a wide variety of flavors based on audience, media platform and business.
Professor Philip Kotler explained that marketing was “meeting the needs of your customer at a
profit.” For me that definition extends beyond just communicating product features. Marketers
are responsible for a 360-degree experience. For example, in the social media world, a
customer’s Twitter needs may differ from her needs to “play with the brand” in terms of a social
game promotion. Every customer touchpoint from customer service to sales to accounting and
more are part of the “new marketing.” (Toby Bloomberg).
25 | P a g e
5.2 Marketing mixes:
i. Promotion
Promotion refers to any type of marketing communication used to inform or persuade
target audience of the relative’s merit of product, service, brand or issue. The purpose of
promotion is to increase awareness, create interest, generate sales, or create any brand.
For Homestay Teluk Ketapang they do a promotion through Facebook and also through
website such as Agoda.

• Snorkeling (2jam)

27 | P a g e
iii. People
People are the most important element of any service or experience. This includes
everyone who is involved in the product or service whether directly or indirectly. Not all
of these people get in touch with the customers. In this homestay target market, they are
more focus on the customer who want and need the experience being in the Ketapang
village and enjoy their activities with the community. They also target international
tourist through the exchange student program.
Figure 10
28 | P a g e
iv. Place
The method of shifting goods from the manufacturer to the intended consumer is called
place in the marketing mix. In other words, it's how the product is being purchased and
where it's being bought. This could be achieved by a variety of intermediaries, such as
manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers. In addition, the Internet, which itself is now a
marketplace, is a newer process. Correct placement is a vital activity that is focused on
reaching the right target audience at the right time. It focuses on where the business is
located, where the target market is placed, how best to connect these two, how to store
goods in the interim and how to eventually transport them.
Located in Seberang Takir / Airport, Homestay Teluk Ketapang is a perfect starting point
from which to explore Kuala Terengganu. Featuring a complete list of amenities, guests
will find their stay at the property a comfortable one. Wi-Fi in public areas, car park,
airport transfer, family room, and restaurant are just some of the facilities on offer.
Designed for comfort, selected guestrooms offer air conditioning, desk, fan, shared
bathroom to ensure a restful night. Recuperate from a full day of sightseeing in the
comfort of your room or take advantage of the hotel\'s recreational facilities, including
garden. Homestay Teluk Ketapang is an excellent choice from which to explore Kuala
Terengganu or to simply relax and rejuvenate.
29 | P a g e
v. Product
Product has a vital role in developing the strategy for the overall marketing mix which
includes place, price and promotion. Through a definition of the product features and
benefits, the rest of the marketing mix elements are determined and agreed upon.
