Here is an update on the Kiwanis Int'l proposed bylaw amendments:
KI PROPOSED BYLAW AMENDMENTS 2012
The following actions were taken by the House of Delegates on
these Proposed Amendments:
• Amendment 1: Age requirement for club membership -
Passed with 98% voting Yes (2/3 vote required)
• Amendment 2: Member in good standing - Passed with
99% voting Yes (2/3 vote required)
• Amendment 3: Frequency of club meetings - Passed
with 87% voting Yes (Majority vote required)
• Amendment 4: Expansion of membership classes -
Passed with 96% voting Yes (2/3 vote required)
• Amendment 5: Role and purpose of Kiwanis districts -
Passed with 88% voting Yes (2/3 vote required)
• Amendment 6: District reporting requirements - Passed
with 97% voting Yes (2/3 vote required)
• Amendment 7: Federation reporting requirements -
Passed with 98% voting Yes (2/3 vote required)
• Amendment 8: Kiwanis International Board meetings -
Passed with 93% voting Yes (Majority vote required)
• Amendment 9: Financial reporting duties of Kiwanis
International officers - Passed with 98% voting Yes (Majority
vote required)
• Amendment 10: Composition of the Board Executive
Committee - Passed with 97% voting Yes (2/3 vote required)
• Amendment 11: Conduct unbecoming a member of the
Kiwanis family - Passed with 66% voting Yes (Majority vote
required)
• Amendment 12: Discipline of Kiwanis International
officers - Passed with 95% voting Yes (Majority vote required)
• Amendment 13: Ensure financial stability of Kiwanis
International (Raise Kiwanis International dues) - Referred
back to the Board to reconsider next year by a 71% vote
(Majority required to refer to committee)
• Amendment 14: Freeze on tiered dues rates - Passed
with 93% voting Yes (2/3 vote required)
• Amendment 15: Add a new Kiwanis object - Failed with
8% voting Yes (2/3 vote required)
• Amendment 16: New Standing Committee of Past
International Trustees - Failed with 55% voting Yes (2/3 vote
required)
• Amendment 17: Determination of minimum number of
members to charter a new club - Passed with 52% voting Yes
(Majority vote required)
Some additional amendments were adopted by the Kiwanis
International Council on January 14, 2012. They also are in effect,
since they were not rescinded at the convention. A copy of these
amendments is also in the attachment.
Amendment 13 to raise Kiwanis International dues by $15 from $42
to $57 did not pass. It was referred back to the Finance Committee to
look at reducing expenses and to come back with a revised proposal.
Many of the adopted amendments affect club bylaws. After the new
Standard Club Bylaws are released, each Kiwanis club will need to
rewrite club bylaws to be in compliance. These effort will need to be
completed by the end of the next administrative year ending
September 30, 2013
The House of Delegates elected the following people as officers of
Kiwanis International for the 2012-2013 administrative year:
• President: Thomas E. "Tom" DeJulio (New York District)
- Current President-Elect unopposed for President
• President-elect: Gunter Gasser (Austria District) -
Current Vice President unopposed for President-Elect
• Vice President: John R. Button (Eastern Canada and
the Caribbean District) - Elected on first ballot from three
candidates
In addition, the delegates from United States and Pacific Canada
elected the following people as Kiwanis International Trustee from six
candidates:
• Kevin Dean (West Virginia District) - 1 year unexpired
term
• Dennis M. Oliver (Louisiana, Mississippi, West
Tennessee District) - 3 year term
• James M. "Jim" Rochford (Illinois - Eastern Iowa
District) - 3 year term
• Elizabeth M. Tezza (Carolinas District) - 3 year term
The 98th Annual Kiwanis International Convention will be held June
27-30, 2013, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The 99th
Annual Kiwanis International Convention will be held June 26-29,
2014 in Macau, China. The 100th Annual Kiwanis International
Convention will be held June 25-28, 2015, in Indianapolis, Indiana,
United States.
