HANDBOOK DIRECTOR OF BESUT COMMUNITY COLLEGE

(V.A.S.H) Thanks goodness of Allah, for His blessing and gift of the
student’s handbook in collaboration with the academic
and non-academic units that provided information on
the programmes and serviced offered.

This Virtual Academic students handbook (VASH) is a
guide book related to all activities and programmes
involved in Besut Community College.

The purpose of this VASH is to provide all of the information in
one e-book that can be shared without referring to various
parties separately.

Therefore, I personally would like to thank all those who
contribute their energy and ideas in order to make this
VASH becomes reality.

Hopefully, this VASH will not only be a student reference
material to those who are curious about the Besut Community
College programmes.

Hence, it is hoped that it will be a significant guide to
those in need.

Thank you.

HANDBOOK EDUCATION (OBE)
(V.A.S.H)
WHAT IS OBE?
DIPLOMA IN OBE is short for Outcome-Based Education.

MECHANICAL OBE is a model of education that stresses on students’
TECHNOLOGY achievements in learning. In OBE students are required
to demonstrate that they know and are able to do
(COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN AND DRAFTING) whatever the required outcomes are.

OBE emphasizes setting clear standards for observable,
measurable outcomes through which student
performance can be empirically measured.

Regarding the OBE paradigm, Spady (1994:8) states:
“WHAT and WHETHER students learn successfully is more
important than WHEN and HOW they learn something”.

WLEARONIRNGKIN BCCooAmllemSgueEniDty

Besut Community College under the Jabatan Pendidikan Politeknik dan
Kolej Komuniti has taken the initiative in the delivery of education by
offering Diploma in Mechanical Technology (Computer Aided Design
and Drafting) with work based learning mode. Work based learning
(WBL) is a subset of workplace learning. Achievement of ‘planned learn-
ing outcomes’ derived from the experience of performing a work role or
function. Work-based learning, therefore, differs from conventional edu-
cation which involves conscious reflection on actual experience. That
reflection on practice offers an advantage of providing a way in which
learners can be supported in structuring their workplace experience to
identify their learning from that experience. The WBL curriculum meets
the needs of both institution and industry and is jointly planned, delivered
and assessed. The teaching pedagogy uses the immediacy of the work
context to provide practice and to encourage reflection on real issues
leading to meaningful applicable course or programme learning out-
comes. Diploma in Mechanical Technology (Computer Aided Design
and Drafting) is a full-time programme that consists of four academic
semesters in institution and two semesters for work based learning
approach at the industry. This programme is designed to provide
students with multidisciplinary studies in mechanical technology, design
technology, CADD technology, research and innovation
