Message from the President Dear friends of Collingham Cricket Club, Bill Powell Cricket President What a truly exceptional season the cricket club had in 2023! I would not normally start any correspondence in this way but quite frankly it was such a great year on the field by all the players, young and old! The juniors won the under 15's league. Ladies cricket is going from strength to strength. The First XI won the Airedale & Wharfedale senior cricket league first division championship, The Second Xl won the Birtwhistle cup and together both teams won the Burmah oil trophy. The trophies were presented to the club at the league dinner at Headingley, along with the league under 20's batting award to Leo Johnson and once again the senior bowling award to stalwart Toby Jacklin. I am so proud as President of this great club to have witnessed some truly magnificent cricket. Our junior and senior players outplayed most of the opposition throughout the season. That included the 3rd eleven, consisting of 'old hands' and junior players. Thank you all once again for your generosity as sponsors and patrons. Quite frankly, without your financial help we would not be able to nurture our young cricketers to love and respect this great game and all it has to offer, now and later in life. Our ground is the 'jewel in the crown' within the leagues we play, for all visiting cricketers. However, it does take a lot of time to manage and prepare the playing surface and ground. This is where your support has been, and is, so critical. Once again, I thank you for your undying financial contribution. I look forward to seeing you all during the season and welcoming new members young and old to our great club. Kind regards,
Chairman’s Message Welcome to the 2024 season The club’s direction of travel continued on its upwards trajectory last season with success aplenty enjoyed throughout the teams. CHAMPIONS! Our 1st XI were the top team in the whole league winning the first division for the first time (since 2012). Under the brilliant captaincy of Jonny Haslem, they only lost two league games all season. Such was their dominance that the 90 point distancing of second place is the highest on record. Quite phenomenal and our relative strength was demonstrated with both bat and ball. At individual level, Leo Johnson won the league’s under 20’s batting award having made 780 runs in the season; and veteran spinner Toby Jacklin won the league Bowling award (for the second year in succession) with his 60 victims. He now has over 1150 league wickets. All at the club look forward to the 1st XI’s defence of the title this coming season in the renamed Premier Division. Our 2nd XI collected silverware last year too. Having been narrowly beaten in the Birtwhistle Cup the prior year they went one better in 2023 winning the final in a straightforward manner in the sunshine at Ilkley – a fitting tribute for outgoing captain and stalwart Az Weerasinghe who had skippered the team to their division 4 league victory in 2022. That promotion meant playing in the highly competitive 3rd division in 2023 – a division almost entirely populated with 1st XI’s. In spite of that stiffer competition, we finished a more than highly creditable 6th place and in doing so were the highest placed 2nd XI in the whole league. This coming season will see them playing in the 2nd XI Division 1 following a re-structuring by the Aire Wharfe League, and by proxy looking to defend their own status as 2nd XI ‘champions’. Our 3rd XI played league cricket for the first time in many years having evolved from a period of friendly fixtures. Having targeted being competitive in our ‘first year back’ we finished a more than acceptable 4th in the 3rd XI Division 2 and won more games than we lost. This forms a great platform from which to advance in the coming season. The 3rd XI is an important team for us. It is the entry level for the older juniors to play senior cricket and Joe Watford’s status as 6th highest wicket taker in the division with 14 victims demonstrates our commitment to, and the ability of our juniors. Our Ladies team entered the West Yorkshire Women’s and Girls Cricket
James Havery Chairman League for the first-time last season which in itself was an exciting progression for the Club. Numbers continue to grow and this year the team will be skippered by Vanessa Rhodes. We are firm in our ambitions to create a pathway for women and girls to play cricket at Collingham, and our under 13 girls team should in time act as a feeder into the senior team. They finished third in their junior division of the same league. Anyone interested in joining either squads should get in contact with the Club. On the wider junior front, we ran teams across under 9’s, 11’s, 13’s and 15’s last season and will do again this year. All age groups did very well in their respective competitions and where we operate a very inclusive cricketing environment for youngsters. Special mention should go to the under15’s who, in only the third year since us re-introducing the age group after an hiatus, reached the semi-final of the cup and even more impressively placed first in what was a very competitive league competition. We have an enormous amount going on again this coming season. Training for age groups across u7’s through to u15’s and league and cup games commence during early May. Whilst the emphasis on enjoyment and participation remains, we anticipate being competitive and making a good show of ourselves in each competition. Silverware was collected last season in the juniors and the ambition is to repeat that! A heavily populated fixture schedule through Juniors, Ladies and Seniors will see cricket being played more often than not on the ground across the Summer and we open the season with positivity across all prospects. Of course, a club like Collingham & Linton can only survive with very generous support from our Patrons and Sponsors who have again dug deep to enable the Club to keep going and allow us to offer so much cricketing opportunities to so many in our local area. Thank you to all of the individuals and companies that support our club. Thanks also go to our very strong and engaged Committee, the parents, families, friends of players and general volunteers throughout the club; and in particular our Groundsmen Bill, Paul, Chris and Billy (despite his ‘retirement’ last season) who continue to produce great pitches and playing areas despite the huge fixture schedule and whatever weather is thrown their way! We wish everyone associated with the club a very enjoyable, rewarding and successful season – Up The Greens!

1 st Team Captain’s Message Jonny Haslem ast season could not have played out much better on the pitch. A first division 1 title since 2012 – it certainly lived up to the excitement that I was predicting in last season’s brochure. This was the culmination of two years of hard work both on and off the pitch. To win a league title with no overseas player and the majority of the squad having played their junior cricket at the club is a testament to what Collingham & Linton CC is all about. Looking forward to the 2024 season, the squad has remained largely the same, and the addition of Osh Cook alongside Amer Siddique’s return to the club will give the First XI squad more depth. Also a few team selection headaches along the way! Once again, captaining a club with such a strong footing across all areas - Senior, Junior and Women’s cricket - is a real privilege. I look forward to welcoming as many people as possible down to Harewood Road this season as we look to defend our league title. Jonny Haslem L 1 st Team Captain
am incredibly proud to be given the opportunity to captain the 2nd XI for the 2024 season. A special mention must firstly go to Az Weerasinghe who has done an amazing job leading the team for the past 6 seasons winning 2 league titles and the Birtwhistle Cup. Confidence is high across the squad through success in previous seasons and we must carry this forward to 2024. The 2XI are looking to retain the Birtwhistle Cup whilst also pushing to win the league. With the league reverting back to 1st team and 2nd team divisions in 2024, we have an excellent opportunity to achieve success across both the league and the cup. Again, like in 2022 & 2023 we have been handed a tough cup draw, we will need to remain focused and hope for a bit of luck on the way but we have the talent in the squad to be able to fight on both fronts this season. Through another good winter of recruitment we remain in a strong position, having strength in depth across the squad which was shown throughout last season with numerous individuals standing up with match winning performances. Last season the 3rd team was a great success and proved to provide a great link between junior and senior cricket with a number of junior players also finding their way into the 2nd team through their strong performances in the 3rd team. This is something we will continue to do to give as many juniors the experience of playing senior cricket as possible. Finally, I would like to thank everyone who has supported the club over the years, I would also like to extend my thanks to Bill, Billy, Paul & the ground staff who spend their time preparing pitches and ensuring the ground remains as the best in the league. We look forward to seeing everyone at CALSA this year. 2nd Team Captain’s Message Ali Batey I Ali Batey 2nd Team Captain
3rd Teams Captain’s Message Rob Anderson & James Airey ast season saw the return of the 3rd team to competitive action for the first time in many years. We finished a credible fourth in the league and want to continue to build on the experience the team gained last year. Similar to last year the squad for this season is a blend of some exciting junior prospects looking to transition to 1st and 2nd team senior cricket in the next few years, alongside some seasoned veterans in the ‘twilight’ of their playing days. This blend of youth and experience served us well last season and provided a platform for the juniors to experience senior cricket for the first time, as well as providing one last season of action for some of the elder statesman. There have been several changes to the squad for this season with some of the older players deciding to hang their spikes up and retire to the safety of the balcony! This has opened up space for Cian Ferneyhough, Josh Airey, Tom Parker and Tom Smith to play more of a regular role in the 3rd team alongside their leadership roles in the U15’s and the U13’s. Alongside these younger juniors we hope that those older juniors can return to score runs and take wickets in particularly Joe Watford and Callum Wood who both made significant contributions last year. We would like to thank everyone that supported the team last year, Jonny and Az the other senior captains, the groundmen preparing a Sunday wicket, and all involved in scoring and helping out with teas. Your continued support will be appreciated this season! L Rob Anderson & James Airey 3rd Team Captains

Collingham & Linton CC Junior Cricket t is my dubious honour to step into the role of Acting Junior Chair following the decision of Charlie & Jenny to take a step back. I would begin by acknowledging that I have big shoes to fill and thanking them both for the enormous contribution they have made to cricket at Collingham and I still very much looking forward to watching Charlie continue to score runs and take wickets for the 1st XI. I am delighted that we have appointed Mark Lawson as our junior coach for the 2024 season. Mark has a wealth of playing and coaching experience including playing for England under 19s and more recently in the Bradford league for New Farnley where he also runs the junior coaching. Mark will run the Wednesday night training as follows: • 4:30- 5:30 Under 7s (years 1 & 2) • 5:30-6:30 Under 9s (years 3 & 4) • 6:30- 7:30 Under 11s (years 5 & 6) • 7:30- 8:30 Under 13s (years 7 & 8) We will also be running a girls u13 soft ball coaching between 7pm and 8pm. Collingham & Linton CC Junior Cricket I would also extend my personal thanks to the team managers who contribute so much every week. Last season also saw a number of juniors graduate into senior cricket particularly in the 3rd XI and we are hopeful to see more go through this season. I would finish by saying that I passionately believe in the importance that team sport plays in children’s lives especially at our club like ours which is at the heart of the community. But training and matches only happen down to enormous amount of hard work I would ask that if you are able to volunteer to help umpire, score or contribute in any way please do get in touch with me or one of the other coaches. I hope to see as many of you as possible on the boundary or the balcony. Rob Anderson Junior Chair
Collingham & Linton CC Women’s Cricket – Collingham Emeralds nother year of Ladies cricket awaits the Collingham Emeralds, and we are very excited about the season ahead! Last year saw our first foray into competitive matches when we entered the West Yorkshire Ladies Softball League (Leeds East Division). The league has grown to 78 teams over the last 3 years which highlights the desire and enthusiasm for the women’s game. We had a great first season with some very close, nail-biting matches! The season ended on a high when we finished as very proud runner’s up at the Thorp Arch and Boston Spa tournament in September, well done Emeralds! We practice at Collingham and Linton CC outdoor nets on Saturday mornings 9am-10.30am with matches being played on Sundays. We are coached by Charlie Swallow who has already taught us so much about understanding and playing the game. If you are interested in giving ladies cricket a go at a friendly club, then please email vanessa@vanessarhodes.com. Here’s to lots more fours, sixes and catches in 2024!
