Types of Warehouse Storage Systems

The dynamicity of the markets is changing consumer preferences day by day. And clearly, this is
altering the objectives of hiring a warehouse. With each subset of products and services
commanding a different kind of storage environment, the warehousing and distribution
services owners have to be well adapted the systems for dealing with the market
heterogeneity.

But surely, the warehouse management can’t take this choice lightly. Organizing the products
before their distribution is one the prime requisites of a warehouse and thus, the installation of
a compatible storage environment is a crucial component of inventory management.

Types of warehouse storage systems

Here are some warehouse storage systems that warehouses install to meet market demands.

Static Shelving

As the name says, static shelving is a system used for holding the products at a particular place.
These shelves specialize in light-weight inventories and can hold up to several hundred pounds
of weight. Besides, they can be easily adjusted without any professional help.

Though static shelving confers abundance of advantages to the warehouse owners, it also has
several disadvantages, some of which are listed below:

• Non-mobility: The dimensions of static shelves can’t be altered once installed. Also,
these shelves can’t be moved easily because of their large size.

• Space restrictions: static shelves aren’t the perfect option when the warehouse lacks
space.

Pallet Racking

The pallet racking system is a specialized system designed for handling the heaviest of the
products. These racks are typically made up of wood, metal, or other materials having high
strength and endurance. The system has multiple rows used for storing palatalized products in
multiple rows using forklifts and eases out the process for freight forwarding services.

The biggest benefit of using a pallet racking system is the increased storage density due to
storage in multiple horizontal rows. But with the increased storage adds to the cost too.

Multiple-tier racking

Multi-tier racking is a type of warehouse storage system involving the construction of multiple
levels for selective pallet racking. Since a warehouse generally has an abundance of vertical
space, multi-tier racking ensures usage of vertical space and maximizes the storage density.

Wiring partitions

Wiring partitions are one of the most secure warehouse management systems. Goods are
stored in secure mesh-like structures with enhanced security. Wire partitions are sometimes
used for making makeshifts and temporary offices.

Mezzanine flooring

Mezzanine flooring is an exceptional, yet expensive space-saver. Mezzanine flooring is an
additional floor constructed above the main floor. Just like multi-tier racking, mezzanine
flooring is also much effective in the utilization of vertical warehouse space and adds to the
storage density. Besides, mezzanine flooring also provides options for lighting, lift systems, etc.
refrigerated storages can also be constructed on these floorings in case the warehouse deals
with different categories of products.

Mobile racking

Mobile racking is an adjustable warehouse management solution involving the mounting of
products over a portable system. The system eliminates the space constraints and helps in
storing goods even when space is less and makes the process of loading and unloading easy for
freight forwarding companies.

Warehouses (an ordinary, refrigerated, or a cross-dock warehouse) are a much-required
component of an economy. Organizing the products is necessary for meeting market demand.
By coordinating conventional and futuristic warehouse management systems, warehouses have
been able to meet the market requirements and helping the economies grow.
