LOCAL ART EXHIBITION SA CARCAR Handuraw
-reminiscing and preserving Carcar's past through arts - featuring the works of our local young artists of “Kabkad” and some works of no less than the great Carcaranon Artists Martino and Dr. Ramon Abellana. Art Exhibit - Handuraw sa Carcar I am a follower of the group's activities. so I went to the exhibit to get in contact with the art group for my internship but sadly our paths did not meet. Anyways, I just viewed the works and searched for a possible artist I could work with. That night I contacted them via Gmail and FB Messenger and things got to work well. A rtis t LIVE NUDE SKETCHING PAINTING SESSION
My first day was full of experiences. Initially, I planned for the first day for formalities. The signing of papers, the introduction of myself, and discussion of the course of my internship. Those still happened and were finalized. So I get to join their planned art jam session for that day which was a Live Nude Art Session. Not gonna lie, I was a bit taken aback. For my first day and since it's been a while I got to join Live sessions and holding a graphite pencil. LIVE NUDE ART SESSION July 16, 2022 Villadolid Carcar
For every first, there is always awkwardness. Aside from that, I was a bit overwhelmed and underprepared, but I still prepared my art materials the night before without even knowing what would happen the next day. Back to being overwhelmedness, imagine being surrounded by great local artists and bringing the University's name that was a bit of a load onto my shoulders but as time goes by, everybody seems welcoming and kind and I even made friends with my cointerns from CNU. The work from the right was made purely with acrylics and I get to observe a bit since all I could do that day was a sketch, also to warm up myself. Behind it is our Nude Model, who does frequent Nude Modeling sessions. Before the art session proper, the Sirs with us taught us about proportion and anatomy. It kind of felt like I was a med student and at the same time a fashion student the terms some were new and familiar. Kuya Kanding on the left did something different from the majority. He sculpted the model with clay. It was fascinating to actually get to see the process from start to finish and see him use techniques and tools to sculpt it. The one thing that slipped his mind was to have a proper "skeleton" ( I also forgot the term) for the figure but he improvised which was amazing since it worked too. Sir Gab doing his thing. I am easily amazed how Sir Gab can finish it in one sitting and how it looked easy and clean to work with oil. It is something I could never but seeing lots of local artists with me doing it helps me pick up something I could do myself.

The Art Group went outside of Carcar! Sir Gab brought us to Argao for two reasons. One is to have an En Plein Air session by the beach alongside to have another gettogether since their exhibit was a success, and two, to visit another exhibit that his former students prepared. The sea and the weather were great. It actually was like a vacation for me. We had food to share and stories to tell when we were at session. EN PLEIN AIR July 23, 2022 Lawis Public Beach Argao In my opinion, that getaway was another great experience I have during this internship. Aside from the food and scenery. I get to mingle more with the other members of the group and my co-interns. Especially during the session, we taught each other, shared materials, and get to share how-tos and such most especially with the younger ones. And I get to share my story a bit to the young ones wanting to take up the arts.

local scene art exhibit ion23 july 2022 see you guys eve ryone is invite d to come sinati
STUDIO 201 GALLERY: SINATI July 23, 2022 Sunshine Beach Club Argao All I can say is that it is really nice that the local art scene is very much there, especially in the southern parts of Cebu. The exhibit might be weird and cult-like to some but that is truly the perks of an artists, is that they can fully free themselves and express what they truly believe in life and universe.
Since Sir Gab is the art group's advisor, I would be together with the org's activities. Art Jams or Art Sessions are done. But at every after session or before the next session. Sir Gab would look into our works and comment about it. If we won't meet I would do outputs for Sir to check on the end. Showcase of outputs and who is Sir Gab would be on week 3 and 4 essay.

As a Realist-Impressionist, Sir Gabby's art style veers more into appreciating nature. He does commendable work with Portraits, Sculptures, Still Life, and Plein Air Paintings. He also plays around with Cubism in some of his artworks. He believes in the rich potential of young Carcaranons as he continues the legacy of the late Martino Abellana and Dr. Ramon Abellana who also believed in such potential. GABRIEL ABELLANA
Art Jam! That day we took it easy. It was the last day for my CNU Intern buddies so Sir decided to bring us somewhere (again). But before that, Sir Gab agreed to hear about my thesis and give some of his opinions. When he learned I'm an upcoming 4th-year student, he asked about my thesis since I also showcased some of my works during our first meeting in my portfolio. He showed me books I can read while waiting for him and the other Interns. ART CONSULTATION July 30, 2022 Sir Gab's Studio UNO! My Intern buddies arrived and did some paperwork to end their internship under Sir Gab formally. After a while, Sir decided on a place to do our art jam while waiting we played a few rounds of UNO.
Art Jam by the beach! As decided, we went to Hunasan Villadolid to conduct our Art Jam. My co Interns decided that we will play around with watercolor this time. We shared techniques and stories. We enjoyed our time together while we are working on our pieces. Behind us is Sir Gab doing his piece for an exhibit in Sibonga. We got to observe, ask questions, and more art talk about the piece, his technique, and the upcoming exhibit for the artwork. WATERCOLOR SESSION July 30, 2022 Hunasan Villadolid Picture picture! Groupfie daw for remembrance! It's me and my co-interns with Sir Gab in Hunasan. We all enjoyed the place Sir brought us! The place is actually nice to hang out, it would have been extra if the KVA members were also there but most are busy with jobs and school was starting which is understandable but we still made our stay memorable during the art jam.

Panulondon -is an art exhibit for a cause. Proceeds are for the repairs for the church. Together with Sibonga young and known artists, they had an exhibit for this cause. It was also a contest where Sir Gab was one of the judges aside from being an exhibitor. PANULONDON EXHIBIT August 3, 2022 OLPA Sibonga Learning from Sir Gab, the Sibonga province have also an art group which is called Visual Artists of Sibonga. This was their first exhibition and it was also discussed that they would be doing a workshop or another art jam under Sir Gab. It was planned but not yet happened during my internship but I still plan to join if ever once I'm officially a member of KVA too. Sir Gab said they don't have yet being formally introduced in art but the local young artists sure have a bright future ahead of them and under the guidance of artists like Sir Gab.

Anciety Soxiety I don't have many photos to share of this situation but it was a great opportunity to talk to Soika before officially opening his exhibit. We got to be the first visitors before his opening because I'm with minors and they can't be late going home from Argao. Nevertheless, we get to talk to Soika about the exhibition, his stay, his residency in Studio 201, and about his art. SOIKA : ANCIETYSOXIETY August 13, 2022 Sunshine Beach Club Argao snippet from a video I took at the exhibit He spoiled us about what he is about to do during the opening. He was gonna do a performance. The image on the left was part of it. Sadly, we missed it but it was a great chance for me and the young artists with me for the behind the scenes and talks.
OVERALL INSIGHTS There's one thing that I really liked during my Internship, and it is that the local art scene in the South Cebu is growing. From learning that Naga City did an open exhibit at their park, to Carcar City having an art group, to Sibonga holding their first Art Cause, and to Argao having a Art Studio, and I even heard from Sir Gab that there is an art group forming either in Alegria or Barili. It is so nice that many are still inclined to arts especially in the provinces. Meeting younger artists being interested in arts and learning from older artists from their experiences are the two sides of the coin I'm grateful to receive. Aside from the art sessions or art jams I get to join and where we learn from each other either just from observing to fully explaining the process it is an experience I missed for two years being just at home studio doing my thing. And I'm very thankful to Sir Gab and KVA for bringing me to places I have yet visited, to exhibits I may join in the future, and to have meet people in the local art scene. Initially thought that art is not that much appreciated in the south unlike in the central city. Though the art scene here might still be traditional it still gather attention especially to the young ones. I really loved I now have two places for me to practice art there in the City and here in my hometown to the South. I even asked Sir Gab how to officially join KVA since I really liked my stay and their activities which I really wanted to be more active. Also during that time,it rekindled my love for watercolor since the past two years I was mainly focusing in the digital arts. I hoped in the next local art scene activity aside from being a spectator by the sidelines I get to join them soon. Another thing is being exposed to a number of people from young artists that Sir Gab is teaching to Sir Gab's former students really hyped me up to be an artist. I love how everyone was connected with the interest in art in mind. Talking was easy then bonds are formed. Overall, it is an experience outside the four corners of the studio classroom I won't forget. Basically another art core memory for me to cherish in my journey as an artist. Like how I stated in my application letter, I really gained a lot from experience artists and the thriving local art scene.
