Pg 4 There was a time when Gods ruled with unbearable power, as icons, leaders, heroes and Kings. These gods were known as the gods of Olympus. They were brave, gentle, strong and loved their creation, man, and bared them gifts. Men on the other hand took these gifts and the blessings that the Gods bestowed upon them for granted, leaving the Earth uncared for. Rustling in the bushes there were two boys ready to cause mischief. They carried with them a stick with a thin cotton cloth wrapped around it and a match. Their only objective was to burn down the forest of Artemis. They climbed to the top of an oak tree and grasped one of its leaves. They scrapedthe match on a branch in the great tree, lighting the tree on fire. As the flames grew brighter and stronger, they jumped off the oak tree before the blaze could catch them. Whispers of Gaia The boys looked up and laughed as the tiny flame developed into a steaming inferno, spreading all throughout the forest; they watched as the fire seized the rest of the trees. Within minutes the previously gargantuan forest, filled with great big trees, alluring flowers, and fauna, was now a forest of ash and smoke. The two boys felt proud among the catastrophe that they had created. They laughed and celebrated the cruel act that they have done. When they heard a loud horn blow out from the heavens, they looked up at the sky and saw the god of sun Apollo riding in his carriage, he descended. He was carried by two Pegasus.
Behind him was his sister, Artemis, flying in on an eagle. They scanned the boys, with a bloodcurdling look in their eyes. The boys were now completely paralyzed in fear, they shiver.” Who are you? Who do you two think you are to do such inhuman things to my land!” Apollo scolds. Artimis was now holding her sword firmly ready to strike at any moment. One of the boys pleaded, ” please don ’t hurt us! we didn ’t do anything” the other confesses, ” IM SORRY, PLEASE HAVE MERCY ON ME DIVINE ONES!” as he bows down. The gods look at each other then back at the boys with glowing eyes, they then spoke perfectly coordinated, ” What you have done cannot be forgiven. You must suffer the consequences of your actions. You will have the same punishment as Tantalus: Condemned to eternal hunger and thirst, with food and water always just out of reach. The boys begin to cry out, unable to accept their newfound destiny. The gods wore a nonchalant expression and began to ascend into the sky, at the gate of clouds they greet Horae, the goddesses of the seasons. Artemis begins, “Have we not done all in our power to provide these mortals with the best, yet nothing is enough. A few days ago, at the meeting, Poseidon told us the sea was in great chaos as the citizens of his realm were at moribund, caused by the over polluted water. Hermes also told us that he has seen several humans cutting down trees and burning them down, like those boys.” Apollo looks at her and states, “Yes, you are right. This is becoming a severe problem as it is commonly happening.” Artemis release, “Let us host a meeting to discuss this ”. Later that day a meeting was hosted with the rulers of all realms and all the other gods. Persephone and Hades are seated next to each other; the queen of the underworld expresses her concern related to the dying plants caused by disease, Hades backs her up, obviously. Zues and Hera start strong with an intense argument on what is most important, the respect the humans have for gods or the worlds overall health. Poseidon and Gaia are worried about wildlife. Demeter gives solutions to a few problems and is rudely interrupted by Poseidon. Ares suggests a war to end humanity and Athena tells him to “be reasonable.” They discuss the issue, then argue on what to do, and finally agree on a solution, Pg 5
Pg 6 “Curse them!” Metis blurted in the mix of the chaos. They all sat back in their seats and remained quiet for a minute. “What kind of curse?” Aphrodite asks.” Well maybe-for a period we can make their crops dry out…” Metis is quick to answer. “…AND THEIR WATER SOURSE TOO!” Poseidon adds on; “ without food and water they won ’t survive…” Hera states. Hades replies to her. “Metis said it was only for a period of time plus after that we can change everything back to normal, we ’ re gods.” The decision was final; a great cure was placed unto the Earth, the worst one ever. Months passed as the humans suffered. More and more families are slowly starting to run out of saved food and water. Eventually, the gods started to feel sorry for them. Walking through the village was very depressing and gloomy. On a day like every other, Poseidon speaks up to discuss the issue with the other gods. “I think the humans have suffered enough; the population will decrease greatly if this continues any further.” He points out. “I also agree, we should end their suffering this second or there will be major decrease in the population.” Hades agrees, waiting to hear the opinions of the others. Everyone else agrees so they turn to the goddess of earth, Gaia. Hades spoke up and asked her a question. “Gaia, can you create lush plants and bushes with fruit in them?” Then he turned to Poseidon. “Poseidon, can you fill the water. Bodies with fresh drinking water?” Poseidon and Gaia both agree, restoring the water bodies and greenery. Suddenly, the little village got back its life as people, young and old, ran out buildings with joyous hearts to the river and plants. People can be heard thanking the gods and praising them. The gods felt proud, and just hoped nothing like this would happen again. -The End

Facts NAMES: Daylen R., Denissi E., Keosha G., Denise T., Hannah G., Amunique P LAB#:5 DATE: 12/04/2024 TITLE: Waste Reduction and Composting PROBLEM STATEMENT: At SCA where the critical concern for Earth is a goal to help reduce food waste and promote sustainable practices, a group of students from the first-form classes embark on a project to implement a worm composting system. Facing limited space and resources, they must design and set up an efficient vermicomposting pile to process organic waste from the school cafeteria. Assessment will be made in monitoring the decomposition process and the quality of the resulting compost, which will be used as fertilizers in the gardens at SCA. HYPOTHESIS: If organic waste is used to replace inorganic waste for composting, then the process of composting will be faster and more effective for the environment. AIM: To conclude the time taken to decompose inorganic and organic waste. MATERIALS/APPARATUS: 2 straws Water 2 plastic bags Food scraps Soil Egg carton(cardboard) Plant pot 6 worms 2 weeks.
PROCEDURES: Students will gather materials: zip lock bag, food scraps and straws for now Students will put the scraps inside the bag, and will place the straw inside the bag with one opening sticking out. They will zip the bag shut, leaving the straw untouched In another bag they will repeat the previous steps and add in worms. They will wait 3 days then document their results and take a picture. They will continue to do the 4th step for 2 weeks. VARIABLES: INDEPENDENT VARIABLE: The size of our bag. DEPENDENT VARIABLE: The amount of compost created and the speed of the procces. CONTROLLED VARIABLE: Creating compost. The time period which we have to conduct this lab. EXPECTED RESULTS/INTERPRETATIONS:
LIMITATIONS: 1.The students participating in this project do not live together therefore we will not be able to see the changes occur together at the same time. 2. With the plastic bag being a small size, we can only collect a certain amount of scraps.
Statistics DATA ANALYSIS Percentages Question 1: 1. Have you ever heard about recycling? Of the 174 students who completed the survey 98% answered “Yes ” and 2% answered “No ”. Question 2: 2. Have you ever heard about composting? Of the 174 students who completed the survey 94.83% answered “Yes ” and 5.17answered “No ” .
*Question 3: If a recycling bin program was set up, that collected materials like paper, plastic, metal, etc, would you be willing to dispose of these items in separate bins on SCACampus? Of the 174 students who completed the survey 95.40% answered “ yes ” , 1.15% answered “ no ” and answered 3.45% “Don ’t know ”
*Question 4: Would you be willing to participate in a program to compost food and yard waste? Of the 174 students who completed the survey 65.53% answered “Yes ” , 9.19% answered “No ” and “Don ’t know ” was 25.28%. *Question 5: Would you like more information about how and what types of garbage you can reuse, compost and recycle to reduce the amount of garbage you need to get rid of?
Of the 174 students who completed the survey 87.93% answered “Yes ” and 12.07% answered “No ”.
1.In your groups find three scripture passages in the Bible that will help the community to create waste reduction awareness that will help the protect the earth. Genesis 2:15: The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. Psalm 89:11: The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it. Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world God’ s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. 2.State three ways how you can apply the scripture passage found on waste reduction to help the community (SCA) to be aware of the waste being produce on campus. Three ways that I can apply these scripture passages to help the community of SCA is by taking care of the earth as told in Genisis 2:15 and doing the same for Psalm 89:11 and Romans 1:20 but and we should take care of it because it is not ours, it is for God. 3.) As a Christian, how can you help the community (SCA) to be aware of the waste pollution they are creating. List and explain three ways how they can improve and prevent waste pollution in school campus. Religion reflection questions
I can help the community to prevent waste pollution by: Using more recyclable plastics. Put up recycling bins around the neighbourhood. Avoid using one time use plastics. 3 ways they can improve are: Getting aware of all the one time use plastics. Wanting to reduce plastic use. Improving environmental responsibility.
