Registration Information Refund & Withdrawal Policy Refunds must be requested in writing or via email within three (3) days of receipt. A household credit will be applied to your account minus an administrative fee. A refund check may also be requested, but will take up to three weeks to be processed. The fee shall be $10.00 for programs under $99.00 or $15.00 for programs $100.00 -$199.00 and $20 for programs more than $200.00. Verifiable medical excuses will be granted prior to the start of the program or pro-rated once the program has started. A household credit will be issued. If we are able to sell your spot to someone on the waiting list then a refund will be processed minus the administrative fee. Please note that refunds of less than $10.00 will be applied to household credit only. There are no refunds issued for missed or canceled classes due to weather or personal scheduling conflicts. Age Requirements & Exceptions Age requirements exist for the safety of all participants and the skills required to be successful in the program or class. If you wish to request an age exception, please do so in writing at least one week prior to the start of the program. Exceptions are not guaranteed and are up to the judgement of the instructor. All programs have a minimum number of participants required for the program to run. Programs may be canceled due to low enrollment, so don't wait to register! We communicate program information primarily through email. We will email through the MyRec website to convey changes, cancellation information, or other important information. Please make sure your email address is active and up to date so that you don't miss a message! Cancellation messages will also be posted on our MyRec site and on Facebook. Shrewsbury Recreation Department uses an online registration system called MyRec. All participants must have an active MyRec account to register for programs. Please visit shrewsburyma.myrec.com to create an account and register for programs! If you need assistance, you are always welcome to come to the Recreation Office or call us at 508-841-8503. Code of Conduct We ask all participants to respect the staff, other participants, age requirements, and the equipment. Please refrain from causing bodily harm to others and from using foul language. Additional rules will be announced at each program. If a participant fails to cooperate with the rules, the department reserves the right to dismiss or suspend a participant with no money refunded. Each situation will be evaluated by the Recreation Staff. Photo Policy The recreation department and/or press will take pictures & video on occasion of participants for publicity purposes and for local cable. If you do not want to have you or your child photographed, please let us know in writing at least 24 hours before your program begins.


Preschool Programs Programs and classes intended for children ages 2-5 (unless otherwise noted). Parent or caregiver participation or support is expected for this age group. All Sports Ages: 3-4 Location: Shrewsbury Club Thursdays: 11:00-11:30 am Saturdays: 11:15 - 11:45 am Fall 1: 9/7-10/26: $172 Fall 2 : 11/2-12/21 : $151 Intro to Sports for preschool aged children. Each week the class rotates through several sports options, including basketball, baseball, tennis, gymnastics, soccer, dance, and karate. Lil Dragons Karate Ages: 3-5 Location: Shrewsbury Club Tuesdays 11-11:30 am Tuesdays 5:30-6 pm Thursdays 6-6:30 pm Fall 1: 9/9-10/31: $172 Fall 2 : 11/7-12/19 : $151 The Little Dragons program is designed for children within the preschool age. We focus on the core principles of respect, discipline, honesty, courtesy and integrity. The basics of balance, coordination, cooperation, kicking, punching and blocking are taught as well as some basic life skills; Self Defense, stranger awareness, fire safety, out-andabout safety, bike safety, etc. The Shrewsbury Club is located at 3 Tennis Drive in Shrewsbury, MA Tiny Dancers Ages: 3-5 Location: Shrewsbury Club Saturdays: 11-11:45 am Fall 1: 9/9-10/30: $172 Fall 2 : 11/4-12/16 : $151 Intro to Dance for preschool aged children. An introduction to basic ballet movement, positions, and elements of dance. This class will help develop gross motor skills and body awareness. Development of social skills will be facilitated through games and other fun activities. Baby Bombers Ages: 3-4 Location: Shrewsbury Club Fridays 5:00-5:30pm Fall 1: 9/8-10/30: $172 Fall 2 : 11/3-12/22 (no class 11/24): $151 Baby Bombers is a great way to introduce your youngest children to the game of baseball. These classes are designed to develop basic hand-eye coordination, balance and motor skills to play the game of Baseball. Your child will be introduced to running bases, catching, throwing and fielding.

Parent & Tot Gymnastics Ages 3 and under Location: Shrewsbury Club Tuesdays 10 am Fall 1: 9/5-10/31: $230 Fall 2 : 11/7-12/19 : $201 Parent & Tot introduces very young children to basic rolling and balance skills in a creative environment. This class is a wonderful place to explore the limits of your balance and coordination in a soft, safe, tactile environment with the support of a caregiver. The Shrewsbury Club is located at 3 Tennis Drive in Shrewsbury, MA Tumble Tots Gymnastics Ages: 2.5-5 Location: Shrewsbury Club Thursdays 6-6:45 pm Fall 1: 9/7-10/28: $230 Fall 2 : 11/2-12/21 : $201 2.5 to 5-year-old classes enhance emerging gymnastics skills in an energetic and creative environment. This class is a wonderful place for first-time experiences with a teacher and peers! At ages 4 and 5, children refine basic skills that reinforce a heightened aptitude for all physical sports activities. This class offers great challenges to the older preschooler on scaled-down gymnastics equipment. Bitty B-Ball Ages: 3-5 Location: Shrewsbury Club Wednesdays 5-5:30 pm Saturdays 11:45 am-12:15 pm Fall 1: 9/5-10/30: $172 Fall 2 : 11/1-12/22 : $151 Intro to basketball for preschool aged children. This program uses a variety of fun games to develop balance, movement and other basketball skills; including dribbling, passing, shooting and teamwork! Scaled down equipment is used for these younger players. Tiny Soccer Ages: 3-4 Location: Shrewsbury Club Mondays 4:15-4:45 pm Tuesdays 5:30-6 pm Fall 1: 9/5-10/30: $172 Fall 2 : 11/1-12/22 : $151 Intro to Soccer for preschool aged children. Youth Programs Theater/Acting 101 Ages: 4-8 Location: Shrewsbury Club Tuesdays 4:30pm Fall 1: 9/5/23-10/24/23, $399 Fall 2 : 11/7/23-12/19/23, $349 This age group will put on a show designed for elementary age kiddos. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! *Shows may have small amounts of song and dance depending on selected program* Students will learn the fundamentals of the performing arts: acting, theater etiquette, and some theater history. On the last day of class there will be a performance for families to see what the students learned! This class is great for the younger children to learn and put on a show designed for their age group. Programs and classes intended for children ages 6-16 (unless otherwise noted). Youth Programs Crew Rowing Fall Season Ages: 12+ Location: Regatta Point Community Sailing Monday - Friday 4-6pm 8/28/2022-10/31/2023 Cost: $1,099.00 Whether you’re an experienced rower, sculler, or a complete beginner (novice) in the Greater Worcester Area, our program caters to all. We focus on training young rowers to compete in thrilling regattas, equipping them with the expertise and experience required to thrive on the water. Our varsity and novice athletes will navigate the waters in singles, doubles, and quads, honing their skills for upcoming spring races. While our emphasis lies in sculling, we also provide sweep equipment. This program warmly welcomes students in grades 7 through 12. Karate Kids Ages: 8-12 Location: Shrewsbury Club Tuesdays 4:45-5:30 pm Fall 1: 9/5-10/31: $254 Fall 2 : 11/7-12/19 : $222 Our goal in these classes is to introduce our new students to our core values of respect, honesty, courtesy and perseverance all while learning the basic techniques of martial arts and improving their general physical fitness level. Our goal for the upper belt students is to emphasize confidence building with our sparring drills and to expand the student’s knowledge of martial arts techniques and their self defense applications. Tiny Tigers Karate Ages: 6-8 Location: Shrewsbury Club Tuesdays 4-4:45 pm Fall 1: 9/5-10/31: $254 Fall 2 : 11/7-12/19 : $222 Intro to karate for children. The emphasis in these classes is put on self control, self discipline, and our core values of respect, honesty, courtesy and perseverance. Youth Programs Youth Basketball League (Winter) Grades 3-12 Game Locations: Sherwood and Oak Gyms Games are on Saturdays and begin on December 2 and end February 10 Practice Locations: Floral, Beal, Sherwood and Oak Gyms Practices are once per week, beginning November 27 Practice times are 6:00-6:45,6:45-7:30, 7:30-815 Shrewsbury Rec Youth Basketball League is open to boys and girls in grades 3-12. Our league welcomes all skill levels and promotes exercise, teamwork, good sportsmanship, and building the skills and confidence associated with basketball while promoting healthy competition. Parent volunteer coaches are needed to ensure this league runs! Time, day and locations are TBD after teams are created. Skills & Drills Basketball Clinic Location: Sherwood Gym Instructor: Mo Tucker Grades 3-4: 6-6:45 pm Grades 5-7: 6:45-7:30 pm Dates: Thursdays, 10/5 - 11/16 (6 weeks) Cost: $80 This co-ed basketball program will focus on skill development in a fun and supportive setting. Players should bring a labeled water bottle and basketball to each practice. Programs and classes intended for children ages 6-16 (unless otherwise noted). Youth Dodgeball Grades 4-6 Location: Sherwood Gym Instructor: Rec Staff Tuesdays 6:15-7:15 pm Dates: 10/3- 11/14 (6 weeks) Cost: $54 Our Rec Staff will lead kids through different versions and variations of Dodgeball games. A great opportunity to work on sportsmanship, hand-eye coordination and teamwork while getting all their energy out!

Babysitting Courses Ages: 12-15 Instructor: Heather Welch Nov 6 & 8 (Mon/Wed) 4-6:30 pm, Oak MS Cafe October 28 (Saturday) - 10 am -2:30 pm, Senior Center Cost: $55 This class will help you learn what you need to know and what every parent wants in a responsible babysitter! Learn how to: interview for a babysitting job, choose safe and ageappropriate toys and games, perform basic first aid and CPR, learn diapering and feeding techniques, handle bedtime issues, learn tips for having a safe babysitting experience and more! Both sessions must be completed in their entirety to pass certification. Certification cards will be given after completion of the course. Please bring a drink, snack and doll or stuffed toy to each class. Children's Etiquette Workshops Location: Senior Center Craft Room Instructor: New England School of Protocol Monday, October 16 Grades 2-7 Dining Etiquette: 4:30-6 pm, $65 This workshop is designed to teach children how to conduct themselves on the dining table at home, in a restaurant or when meeting new people. Teaching children proper dining skills and table manners helps them to succeed at school, socially, and later, professionally. Social Skills: 6:15-7:30 pm, $60 In today’s fast-paced, high-tech society, teaching children manners is more crucial than ever. One of the most important jobs we have as parents and teachers is to help children develop social skills, show them how to interact with others in a polite manner, and teach them to treat everyone with respect. Conversation Skills: 7:30-8:30 pm, $55 Developing a child’s conversational skills and etiquette is important as it helps them build confidence, cultivate friendships, and understand social expectations. Wednesday, November 8 Social Skills, Grades 2-7: 5:30-6:45 pm, $60 Teen Interview Prep, Grades 8-12: 7-8:30 pm, $65 Interviewing can be challenging for students especially when they haven’t interviewed before. However, putting one’s best foot forward during an interview is a critical step towards landing a great job during high school, and a valuable skill to develop for the future. Thursday, December 7 Grades 2-7 Prep for the Holidays Dining Etiquette: 4:30-6 pm, $65 The aim of this 90-minute workshop is to teach children how to convey confidence, courtesy and be self-reliant in any social or dining situation. Social Skills: 6:15-7:30 pm, $60 Restaurant Ready: 7:30-8:30 pm, $55 In this class students will learn how to use good manners at the table when dining out at a restaurant or a special event.


Special Olympics Soccer Location: Maple Ave Soccer Fields Dates: Sundays, August 27 – October 29 Time: All teams will meet and practice from 4-5pm for the first week. After that, Junior teams (under 16 years) will practice from 4-5pm. All other teams 16 and up will practice from 4-5:30pm. Assessment Rounds: TBD You MUST attend the assessment round in order to be eligible for State Games Competition. Must be a Shrewsbury resident or current member of the program to participate. Special Olympics Basketball Unified Teams at Sherwood Gym: Tuesdays, 6:00- 7:30 pm Start date: 11/28 Senior Traditional Team at Oak MS Gym: Thursdays, 7:30- 8:30 pm Start date: 11/30 Adaptive programs are designed for those with disabilities or who may require modificationsto successfully participate in recreation programs. Special Olympics is designed for those with cognitive and/or developmental disabilities. Adaptive Tennis Ages 8+ Location: Dean Park Tennis Courts Instructor: Ed Thater Mondays, 6-7 pm Dates: 9/11-10/2 (4 weeks) Cost: $20 This is an introductory tennis program for those with special needs or physical disabilities. Over four classes, participants will learn the basic of tennis in a fun and engaging curriculum. No previous experience is required to participate, and the clinics are open to those of all experiences and abilities. Younger children will focus on developing fundamental tennis skills while older participants will learn the basic strokes and match play. (Participants will be required to provide their own tennis rackets.) Adaptive Program Meeting Please join us to meet the Rec Team and discuss how we can better serve our community members with diverse abilities in programming and at our special events. Adult Programs Adult Co-Ed Volleyball Ages 18+ Location: Sherwood Gym Dates & Times: 7:45-9:30 pm September 18 - December 21 Cost: $65 Resident / $75 Non-Resident Beginner & Intermediate Levels: Mondays & Wednesdays, 7:45- 9:30pm Advanced Levels: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 7:45 - 9:30 pm This co-ed volleyball league uses the Yankee rating system to ensure players are in the appropriate group based on skill level to ensure fun, fair play and safety. Beginner/intermediate groups are for recreational players who have some experience and are looking to learn the basics of competitive volleyball. Some guidance is provided. Programs and classes intended for adults ages 18 and up (unless otherwise noted). Adult Golf Group Series Location: Juniper Hill Golf Teaching Center, Northborough Class Options & Start Dates: Tuesdays, September 5, 10 – 11 am Fridays, September 8, 9 – 10 am Fridays, September 8, 10 – 11 am (Ladies Only) Saturdays, September 9, 10 – 11 am (Parent/Child Class) Sundays, September 10, 9 – 10 am Cost: $160 $290 for Parent/Child Pair Great program for golfers of all abilities. Instructors work with students individually within the group. Five one-hour classes encourage gradual improvement over five weeks. Each class meets once a week for five consecutive weeks. Men's Pick-Up Basketball Location: Oak MS Gym Mondays and Wednesdays, 7:45-9:30 pm September 18- December 13 (24 classes) Cost: $72 Pick up games are played on a weekly basis, participants are welcome to attend on both nights! All skill levels welcome. Teams are made up each evening, so bring a light colored and dark colored shirt each time. Tai Chi Location: Senior Center Instructor: Laurie Demers Wednesdays, 5:30-6:30 pm September 21- November 30 (10 weeks) Cost: $65 The Tai Chi form is a method whereby a person can practice the maneuvers used in self-defense in order to develop internal power and external flexibility. Daily Tai Chi practice will enhance the quality of life. Adults 18 and older. Adult Archery *Please see Archery program information in the Youth Programs section. Ages are grouped together for Fall outdoor sessions.


Adult Programs Programs and classes intended for adults ages 18 and up (unless otherwise noted). Outdoor Beginner Pickleball Lessons Location: Coolidge Pickleball Courts Cost: $60 Tuesdays, 9:45-10:45 am September 12-October 17 (6 weeks) Instructor: Fran Parslow OR Sundays, 8:45-9:45 am September 17 - October 22 (6 weeks) Instructor: Suzanne Cox Learn the basics of the fastest growing sport in America! Fran will start at the very beginning, teaching rules, lingo, court awareness, grip, and then work in drills and match play. Bring your own paddle, balls provided. Yoga Slow Flow and Restore Location: Senior Center Instructor: Ruth Febo Thursdays, 6-7 pm October 5 - Dec 14 (10 weeks) Cost: $90 Class will incorporate poses that range from gentle to intermediate. We will focus on breath and alignment, while bringing awareness to fluctuations of the body and mind. This class is suited to new students as well as experienced practitioners, allowing each st udent to practice at their own pace. Please bring a mat and other props you may already use in your personal practice. Restorative Yoga Location: Senior Center Instructor: Ruth Febo Thursdays, 7:15 to 8:15 pm October 5 - Dec 14 (10 weeks) Cost: $90 A restful practice focusing on slowing down and opening the body through passive stretching poses (asanas). Appropriate for all levels, restorative yoga is practiced at a very slow pace, focusing on stillness and breath awareness. Teacher will provide gentle hands-on assists, with permission. Please bring a bolster or a pillow (or two), a blanket, and (yoga) mat.

Zumba® Lite Location: Core Connection at 290 West Main Street, Northborough Mondays, 11:05am In-Studio and Virtual Class Options Session 1: 9/11-10/16 (6 weeks) Session 2: 10/23-12/4 (6 weeks) Cost: $85/session A low impact dance class that is perfect for those not ready to move as fast as our regular Zumba® class. This class will put a smile on your face as you dance your troubles away! Incorporates the basic rhythms of Merengue, Cumbia, Salsa, & Cha Cha at a lower intensity but will definitely keep you moving. Variety of music from all over the world & genres used. Benefits include strengthening muscles, improving cardiovascular health and posture and FUN! Barefoot Cardio Location: Virtual Class Thursdays 5:45pm Session 1: 9/14-10/19 (6 weeks) Session 2: 10/26-12/7 (6 weeks) Cost: $85/session Are you looking to burn fat, firm up all over, and create a tall, lean, graceful body while having fun? Barefoot Cardio is a 50-minute innovative blend of low-impact aerobic movement set to music with Pilates, dance, yoga, and barre inspired moves that will burn fat while sculpting long, lean muscles. Your feet are the foundation for your entire body, and by working out barefoot, we are better able to work balance, alignment and posture. It is a joint-friendly, efficient, and enjoyable workout that will improve your overall wellbeing and prove that working out can feel good! This workout is effective and unique because we burn fat while moving with control to incorporate all elements of fitness including cardio, strength, balance, flexibility, and stress reduction. Indoor Pickleball Location: Beal Elementary Gym *Residents Only Time: 7:45-9:30 pm Beginner Level - Tuesdays, 10/17 -12/12 Beginner Level - Thursdays, 10/19 - 12/14 Intermediate Level - Mondays 10/16-12/11 Intermediate Level - Wednesdays, 10/4 - 11/15 A staff member will help teach the game to the beginner level classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Intermediate level play will not be instructional, but rather pick-up style games where players have a good understanding of the rules and strategy of pickleball with consistent shots and a moderate number of unforced errors. It provides a high intensity 30-minute cardiovascular workout on the bike followed by strength training off the bike, to create a stronger, more balanced body. NOTE: Please bring a mat. Yoga Fusion for Strength Location: Senior Center Instructor: Kris Wilhelmy Mondays, 5-6 pm OR 6:15-7:15 pm Session 1: Sept 18-Oct 23 Session 2: Oct 30-Dec 11 $54/session (6 weeks each) This class blends yoga poses with pilates and strength training to create simple yet powerful exercises to benefit the body and mind. This is an all levels class to build strength and muscle tone using your own body weight, as well as the inclusion of small weights. Adding weights helps to build muscle and increase bone density and is a great way to maintain strength. During class, you are encouraged to go at your own pace in a noncompetitive and nonjudgmental approach and to respect the signals that your body sends you. Please bring a mat and a set of 1 to 3 pound weights. Fit For Life “Seniors” Ages 50+ Location: Senior Center Instructor: Karen McKenzie Wednesdays, 10-11 am September 6-October 25 $25 (8 classes) Look and feel your best while improving strength, flexibility, and energy. We will work on the 6 Basic Fitness Components- strength, flexibility, cardio, nutrition, stress management, and balance. This class will also exercise the mind and body as we explore the latest aging research and health information. Participants are able to modify their workout routines with guidance from the instructor, thus creating a positive and safe environment where everyone can succeed in class! Ages


Adult Programs Programs and classes intended for adults ages 18 and up (unless otherwise noted).USTA Tennis Ages: 21-45 Location: Dean Park Tennis Courts Tuesdays, 6-9 pm September 12-October 24 (7 weeks) Cost: $75 USTA New England's Social Tennis League offers the opportunity for young professionals throughout New England to meet new people through the game of tennis. This league is a great way to improve your skills or get back into tennis in a fun, social environment. Our league is match-based and open to all levels as long as you know the rules of tennis and can serve and rally. Our first night is a fun hit around night with group games and practice matches. You'll get to meet everyone and get some practice in before matches start in week two. Our site coordinator will set the lineups for each week in our league spreadsheet and players will be assigned a one-hour match at either 6, 7 or 8pm. Guided Hikes Guided hikes are family friendly programs put together by members of the Trails Committee. Each hike is free of charge, but registration is encouraged! Nature Walk This program is grant funded by the Shrewsbury Cultural Council and lead by Martha Gach of Mass Audubon Monarch Butterflies, September 24 Lake Street Park, 9-10 am Full Moon Walk September 28 Lake Street Park, 7:30 pm. Craft Workshops Location: Senior Center Instructor: Bindiya Jain These interesting crafting classes are a fun way to express your creativity and learn a new medium! The instructor will lead you though each project, giving you plenty of space to make it your own! Truck or Treat Location: Town Hall Saturday, October 14, 9 am-Noon This event combines two favorites: Touch-aTruck and Trick-or-Treat! Trucks, tractors, and equipment of all kinds will be on site for you to explore. Wear your costume and collect treats along the way!
