Good afternoon and welcome to Arlesey Town Football Club here at New Lamb Meadow. We wish you all a Happy New Year. Today we welcome everyone associated with Leverstock Green. This is our first home game in the New Year and after a very unsettled 2023 we are now looking forward to a successful 2024. With our new management team consisting of Manager Tommy Cooney, Assistant Player/Manager Zak Guerfi, Goalkeeping Coach/Head of Youth Development Eshmale Mills and Pebbles our Physio, we believe we have a very young, hungry, ambitious, motivated and driven team to take this football club forward. Tommy has brought in a lot of new signings as well as retaining proven players and very promising young players. Obviously, they will take time to gel but so far have made a promising start under the new management team, finally getting a couple of well-deserved wins thus moving out of the bottom two/three in the table. I joined the club as Vice Chairman six month ago, my background being a professional footballer. I played for teams such as Burnley, Bradford City, Gillingham, Northampton Town and Peterborough but my career unfortunately ended after a serious car crash when I was twenty-five. My affiliation with Arlesey Town goes back to ‘95/’96 when I was joint Manager of the club and led the team out onto the pitch at Wembley where Arlsey Town successfully won the F.A. Vase. Being invited back to the club has been very exciting and I am looking forward to seeing what we can achieve in the future. I wish to thank the committee, and all concerned with the club, along with its loyal supporters. As a grass roots football club, we always need many volunteers so if anyone feels that they could help or would like to get involved with the club, please contact [email protected]. Here’s to a successful 2024. Phil Cavener Vice Chairman Arlesey Town Football Club Welcome To New Lamb Meadow

Leverstock Green Football Club was formed around 1895. The first match reports appeared on January 4th 1896 in the Advertiser and gave an account of a match against Hemel Hempstead Rovers. The first competitive fixtures were reported during season 1908/1909 when the Club competed in Division Three of the West Herts League. Other clubs competing in the league at that time were: Abbots Langley, Bovingdon, Boxmoor, Bushey Heath, Hagden Lane, Kings Langley and Potten End. The Club ground in Pancake Lane originally formed part of the Gorhambury Estate, Lord Verulam making the ground available for the youth of the area and his estate workers to enjoy a game of ball. Clearly Lord Verulam was an early enthusiast, providing timber-built changing rooms, which have been progressively replaced since the 1960’s by the existing brick built clubhouse and changing rooms. On the death of the Lord, certain parcels of land, including that on which the Football Club stood, fell to the Crown in lieu of death duties and is administered on its behalf by the Commission for New Towns, who have remained the Club’s landlords since that time, despite two unsuccessful attempts by the Club to buy the freehold. The club remained members of the West Herts League until 1954 when it broadened its horizons and successfully applied to join the Herts County League. By the mid 1970’s the Club started to move forward with a new clubhouse, post & rail and the installation of training lights. The playing side of the club also improved and in 1979 the club won Division One of the Herts County League and were promoted to the Premier Division the highest standard the Club had achieved in 80 years. In 1991 the Club were accepted into the South Midlands League and had two highly successful seasons in the Premier Division before being forced to drop into the Senior Division, as floodlights were then not available. In 1996 the club finished in runners-up position and the following season were the divisional champions but could not be promoted because floodlights had still not received approval from the Council. Premier Division status was eventually regained in 2003, and the club is now the longest-standing current member of the division. The club’s highest finish in the Premier Division has been 4th, in season 2010/11, with top six finishes also being recorded in 2005/06, 2006/07 and 2008/09. Season 2010/11 also saw the club’s best ever run in the FA Vase, with wins over Welwyn Garden City, Enfield, Hullbridge Sports, Tunbridge Wells and Bemerton Heath Harlequins before defeat in the Fifth Round against Rye United. The club has twice reached the Third Round of the FA Vase, in seasons 2006/07 and 2018/19. Leverstock Green entered the FA Cup for the first time in 2004, and the club’s best performance has been reaching the Second Round Qualifying, which was achieved in 2014/15, where we were beaten by Staines Town, and in 2018/19 where we were beaten by Dorking Wanderers. County honours were won in 2006/07 and 2010/11 as the Herts Charity Shield was lifted, and the club were beaten finalists in the Herts Charity Cup in 2011/12. After finishing runners-up four times over the previous 12 years, The West Herts FA St Mary’s Cup was finally lifted for the first time in 2017/18 with victory over Berkhamsted in the final at Vauxhall Road. Today's Opposition Leverstock Green Between 2005 and 2015 the club ran a successful Ladies’ Team, which rose from the Beds and Herts League into the Eastern Region Womens League, reaching the Premier Division in 2013. The under-18 side competes in the Southern Counties Floodlit Youth League. The team finished runners-up in their division in seasons 2010/11 and 2014/15, and in 2015/16 they reached the final of both the Brian Hitchings Cup and the Colwyn Cup, losing in both finals to Luton Town Cedars. Many players have made the step up from under-18 level to first team level, and those who have gone on to play much higher up the nonleague pyramid include Charlie Gorman (Eastbourne Borough), Luke Warner-Eley (Royston Town, St Albans City) and Jonathan Lacey (Hemel Hempstead Town) who also represented the England non-league side in the Falklands while a Leverstock Green player. The Pancake Lane ground has seen many improvements due to ever more stringent ground grading requirements. In 2007 the Peter Metcalfe changing rooms were built at a cost of £90,000. 2008 saw the refurbishment of the clubhouse to include new toilets and a new hospitality suite. In 2009 the concrete walkway was completed to coverthree sides of the ground and a seated stand accommodating 113 spectators was installed. Season 2018/19 was one of turmoil and sadness, as long-serving fixture secretary Graham Smart passed away suddenly only weeks after taking on the role of interim chairman. A season which promised so much at the start ended with the club only securing Premier Division safety on the final day. Emma Smart took over as chairman for season 2019/20, and with a new management team and a new spirit of optimism the club was on course for a safe mid-table finish before the season was brought to a premature end by Covid-19. The management team of Matt Harding and Mick Vipond continued into the 2020/21 season, which again came to a premature end. For season 2021/22, a new management team of Fergus Moore, Scott McGleish and Paul Marks was appointed. Fergus and Scott continued through season 2022/23 and won their first silverware for the club with a 1-0 win over Tring Athletic in the final of the West Herts St Mary’s Cup. Fergus and Scott are joined by former Under-18 manager Ross Bargent for season 2023/24, and the club has also started a Development Team this season, which will be playing in the Herts Senior County League Premier Division. Four club stalwarts have received awards from the Football Association and the Herts FA for 50 years service to football. The first was Jim Matthews, affectionately known as “Macca”, who passed away at the age of 90 in 2006. The second was Bill Dawes in 2014, and the third was longserving club secretary Brian Barter in 2019. Brian stood down from his role as secretary in 2020, having twice been honoured with awards from the Spartan South Midlands League. The fourth was Tony Smart, who now holds the roles of Vice-Chairman, Treasurer and Programme Editor.

Tommy Cooney - Manager Managers Notes Afternoon Everyone Welcome to this afternoons Game Vs Leverstock Green Its been a busy time with players in coming We’ve added Dwade and Eddie over the last week, Eddie has been with us for over a month but his ITC didn’t come through, Eddie has real pedigree and I think we seen a glimpse off what’s to come from Tuesday night, dwade has scored 56 goals in 61 games at step 5 he’s a real gaol scorer but has come back from injury so we will need to be patience but he’s a winner he’s won titles at this level and gives us that experience that we lacked when I came in the door How we haven’t walked away with something from the potton united game is very harsh I felt we deserved all 3 points and felt at 1-1 only one team was going to win so to go and concede from a set play is really poor and very hard to swallow but as I said to the boys we be men we push are shoulders back and go again Iv been in the job 4 weeks now and we’ve had 3 training sessions it’s been so difficult to work on anything atm everything is verbal not practical, iv now finished my recruitment it’s taken me a month to get the Squad together it’s now having an identity and working on the training ground it was always going to be rocky at the start but once we can get on the training pitch and work it will make the world off difference , we’ve got another 3 games within the next 7 days and then it calms down and gives us 4 training sessions before the shefford game then we should see a clear identity after some work on the pitch, at the moment it’s a real challenge trying to put a team together in January I feel if I had this squad in July and had 6 week pre season with them it’s a play off squad but atm there all at different stages mentally and physically we just need to ride this season out and then the real work can start in the summer with a proper pre season iv always said it as a player what you do in pre season sets you up for the season and that hasn’t changed since iv come manager It’s been great to see some good crowds over the Christmas period and we all appreciate your support we’re all here for the same outcome to make the football club successful, stick with us we just need to turn performances into results and it’s only around the corner before we click and go on a run I hope you all enjoy the game Tommy Ex professional and ex Irish international played across non leagues from step 2-4 started coaching career as assistant manager at Dulwich hamlet fc now here! Potton Utd. 2MATCH Arlesey Town. 1 REPORT CHRIS STERRY On a very cold night in Potton Arlesey introduced Dwade James up front and finally Eddie Carrington on the bench after a long period awaiting his International clearance. Potton started strongly with an early FK thatxwas put out for a corner that was well taken by Ollie Skinner. Straight away after a good cross in by Louis Octave again had to be dealt with by Skinner. Another break by Potton was put out for a corner which was delayed as Octave was down on the half way line and after a delay for treatment he had to be replaced Nathaniel Mullings after just 4 mins. The corner when it eventually came was cleared. Arlesey started to break out as Matt Gilbert found Rory Busby who found Joe Abe who cut in but his shot was blocked and cleared. Tom Millett returning after injury cut in from the other side and hit a long shot that went into the side netting. Potton hit back as a cross found James Smith but this was well blocked by Melvin Asesida and cleared, before a good throw from Jack Thomas was well collected by Skinner. Alex Taylor was working as industrially as usual in the middle of the park and he won a ball and fed Abe who crossed in but this was cleared. Dwade James trapped a good ball as he chested it down from a cross by Abe but his volley was cleared by Mulliings Busby played a good ball to Abe who cut in but his shot lacked power and it was taken by the keeper. A good cross in from the overlapping Zack Howell found Busby but he was stopped by a very good tackle. The game was fairly evenly balanced when Potton won a corner, this was cleared out to deep and came to Mullings who hit a long shot which took a large deflection before skidding past Skinner and into the Arlesey net for 1-0 on 31 minutes. James had to leave the field for treatment several times for a cut on his hand which disrupted things a bit as Potton pressed forward to try and press home their advantage but Arlesey defended well as from a FK they forced the cross in to go behind. Abe was fouled and the FK was headed on but itcwas well taken by James Hoskins in goal. Busby fed Abe through before he was felled by Michael King who was booked (slightly too wide for it to be red). From the FK Howell drove past the post from the edge of the area leaving it a close 1-0 at half time. The half started with Abe again being fouled and Jordan Stevenson was booked. From the FK the ball came to Ryan Richefond who hit a great long range shot that Hoskins tipped onto the bar with a good save, the ball was recycled well and came to Busby who hit a terrific shot that crashed onto the crossbar again dropping down behind the keeper and onto the line before being desperately hacked clear, despite Busby pleading it had crossed the line the game played on. Mullings went down for Potton off the ball and he had to be replaced himself. Arlesey introduced Eddie Carrington for Tom Millett and straight away after Montel Brown replaced Dwade James. Abe made a good cross in that came back to him before his next cross was collected by the keeper. Howell was fouled. From the Fk Howells found Richefond who fed Carrington who put in a great cross that looped over the keeper to Busby at the far post, but his header wasn't powerful enough and it was saved by the keeper close by the post. Busby was fouled on the edge of the area as Arlesey pressed forward. Brown delivered on a good ball but it was cleared as Potton hung on. From a corner it was half cleared and delivered back in to Busby who headed wide. Brown picked up a loose ball in the centre of the pitch and he looked up and hit a terrific 30yard shot that looped over the keeper who was slightly off his line and into the net for 1-1 and a great goal on 63 minutes. Arlesey were well on top now; Abe hit a shot that went over the bar before Taylor was fouled as he attacked. The FK by Brown was cleared.. A great ball from Carrington looked to have fed in Busby but he was just O/S. Richefond hit a low shot that was stopped by the keeper before another good move from Howell fed Carrington who won a corner but this came to Busby who shot wide. Busby burst through but his shot was stopped by the keeper. Potton won a corner in a rare forward move. This found Mike Evans in the centre after being headed on; Evans received the ball with his back to goal but spun and volleyed it high past Skinner from close range for a Potton goal against the run of play on 80 mins. Potton brought on another defender to see the game out, Taylor won the ball in the centre and fed it to Brown who hit another great on target long shot by this one was taken by the keeper. A good cross in by Abe narrowly missed Busby as the time ticked down. Abe was booked for a foul in the 90 min that caused a bit of a reaction from the home team who crowded the ref and squared up to the Arlesey players and eventually Smith was booked for his aggressive posturing. Potton got hold of the ball as time ran out and played I to the corners before the final whistle blew for a narrow victory to Potton. Not sure how Arlesey didn't get anything from that game, they were the better team especially in the 2nd half but again didn't make the chances count whereas Potton had one chance in the 2nd half and took it. The way Arlesey played though it must surly come together soon.
