FA Vase Penn & Tyler

FA Vase Penn & Tyler

Saturday 23rd September VS A R L ESE Y T OWN V S PE N N & T Y L E R S G R E E N M A T C H D A Y P R O G R A M M E

Thanks to an incredible amount of hard work from Ish (Arlesey Town Head of Youth development) and his team, the club will kick off the season with Girls teams in age groups Under 8’s, Under 11’s and Under 13’s. There will be Boys teams for Under 9’s, Under 11’s and Under 12’s. We also welcome our EJA teams for Under 13’s and Under 16’s. And this season I hope you will all come along to watch our brand new Under 18’s midweek team who will play on the main pitch. Along with the first team and the Sunday side, we now host eleven teams under the Arlesey badge with plans for many more in the future. And when you see the coaches and players of our youth teams around the club, please take the time to ask how their season is shaping up. In order to expand the number of youth teams under the clubs umbrella, we need more pitch space. The village of Arlesey only has four pitches, two at the stadium (the home pitch and the training pitch) and two at the recreation ground in the centre of the village. That means there is a finite amount of kick off times available to us, particularly in Winter, and at the moment it isn’t anything like enough. That’s why the decision was taken last summer to build a brand new state-of-the-art 4G pitch here, at New Lamb Meadow. And I’m pleased to be able to tell you that we are on course to have the new pitch installed, where the main grass pitch now sits, in time for the 2024/25 season. It is imperative that we provide more pitch times to the teams that fall under our umbrella so that we can expand more quickly, as well as providing space to those members of the community that just like to enjoy the odd five a side with their friends for an evening. The 4G pitch is a huge commitment for a club of our size, and we’ll need the help of as many people from the community as can spare their time to make it go as smoothly as possible. Aside from sponsoring the club, as mentioned above, there are other ways that YOU can get involved. The club now has committees for fundraising, 4G pitch implementation, and day-to-day volunteering. We have opportunities for coaching positions too, as well as a number of other roles. If you’re interested in getting involved in any of the above, please feel free to approach either myself or a committee member who will be happy to help. In today’s digital program you will also find a “who’s who” of the committee, so please familiarise yourself with the latest members of the team, and perhaps reacquaint yourself with the old hands among us, but most importantly enjoy the game and the season ahead! We appreciate your continued support! COYB! Welcome To New Lamb Meadow Chairman Arrlesey Town FC Dave Kitson Good Afternoon everybody and welcome to New Lamb Meadow for Todays FA Vase Fixture.. Around the ground you may see some other changes as our designated sponsorship team has been busy attracting new business to the club. The boards on the dugout side of the pitch are filling up with new patrons, who, one by one, are throwing their support behind Arlesey Town. And should you wish to sponsor the club we have a number of ways that you can show your support, from buying one of our new polo shirts available in a number of colours (ask at the bar) to sponsoring the match day ball for £25 or indeed the entire stadium! We have options for every budget. At the bar you will also notice our new digital signage keeping you up to date with everything happening at the club. Whether it’s letting you know about an event in our function room, upcoming fixtures, a new signing, offers on food and drinks or club merch, just check out the screen when you visit the bar to see what’s new. his coming season is an exciting one for Bedfordshire football with Luton Town back in the top division of English football. Rivalries are part of football, but partnerships are the backbone of lower league football, and success for one club can often have a positive impact on clubs around them. As many of you know, if a big club comes knocking for one of our players, there is nothing we can do about it unless he is under contract, and we can’t easily give out contracts to players that are under the age of 18. It seems incredibly unfair and the committee and I have been working tirelessly to try to solve the problem of losing our best young talent for nothing. So, I am pleased to announce that we have now secured partnerships with Luton Town, Stevenage Borough, Wycombe Wanderers and Cambridge United to safeguard our talent. These partnerships allow us to bring in young players on loan, share coaches, and offer trials and training weeks with professional clubs to our own young talent. This has taken a huge amount of hard work and we are incredibly pleased to have pulled it off. It is a testament to our new approach of bringing back our youth teams and putting the club squarely at the heart of the community. Now, if you are a young player climbing the ladder, Arlesey Town has the ability to showcase your talent to professional scouts and managers alike, thanks to this partnership deal. These partnerships put our club front and centre in terms of youth team recruitment. We have secured the pathway to professional football for our kids, the rest is up to their dedication and hard work.

Welcome To Your Committee DAVE KITSON (CHAIRMAN) I grew up in Letchworth, just a brisk walk from New Lamb Meadow, past the Arlesey pits and on towards my home just next to Standalone Farm. My roots with Arlesey Town FC go back to 1999 when my friends, Lee and Paul Devereux, invited me try out with Nicky Ironton’s all conquering team. I can only say that being left footed player helped me to get a role in the team that nobody else seemed to want. After an amazing couple of seasons at the club I signed for Cambridge United and embarked on a professional football career. Fast forward twenty odd years, and I took a call from my good friend and fellow committee member, Jason Marshall, who asked me to return as Chairman. The club had been in the doldrums for some years and wanted somebody to oversee the revamp of the members bar (obviously they couldn’t find anybody else!) It might sound odd, but I can honestly say that having played football all over the world (badly, most of the time), being the Chairman of a football club that holds so many memories for me is an incredible honour. I never thought I’d be old enough or sensible enough to be the Chairman of a football club! Our philosophy and mission statement is very simple: Make the football club the centre of the community. In the two years that I have been the Chairman of the club, the committee and I have made huge inroads to that effect, and in the years ahead we will continue to deliver a football club that you can all be proud of. CHRIS STERRY (FOOTBALL SECRETARY) I started in non-league football in 1972 with Dunstable Town. I’ve always worked behind the scenes selling programmes, working the gates and working on the pitch etc.. and now I find myself in the role of club secretary for Arlesey Town FC having arrived here in 2008. I could see that Arlesey had a modern ground that looked great and were ambitious, and this was proved. They had just moved to the Southern League. I’ve seen some amazing times at this club and I can feel that we’re in for more exciting times ahead with our new youth policy approach. Arlesey have produced Dave Kitson who has returned to the club as the current Chairman, Craig Mackail-Smith, who enjoyed a career at Brighton and Peterboro amongst others, and more recently Stuart Sinclair who has been at Bristol Rovers and Walsall. So we know that we have the talent in the area, and we know that the club can nurture it. Arlesey continually produce young players, and we have a large youth section that is growing year on year. We have installed a new management team With Nick Brown bringing a new dynamism to the start of this season and are restructuring the club too. We have totally refurbished the clubhouse and improved the look of the front of the building with a brand new sun patio and things are looking far more positive than last season. This season we will again be be a very young squad, but for me that’s a good thing as we look to find the next big player. It’s great to watch young players progress year on year and that’s the drive that keeps me going each week. Football is in the long term a helter-skelter ride of peaks and troughs, we have had highs and lows, but I feel that we are once again about to climb the peaks. JAMES HARDING (TREASURER) I first got involved With Arlesey Town at the start of 2023, and took on the role of treasurer shortly after. This calendar year will be an important one for the club as we embark on the planning and development of our 4G pitch, which will hopefully be installed at the end of this season. Along with the other committee members, I’ve been getting stuck into multiple aspects of the club and I think you’ll agree that the new bar and the look of the stadium has improved hugely in a short time. We’re looking forward to welcoming everybody down to New Lamb Meadow this season as we continue our youth team drive and committee recruitment. You’ll usually find me operating the turnstiles on match days so do come and have a chat! Dave Kitson- Chairman Jim Anderson - Club President Chris Sterry - Football Secretary James Harding - Treasurer Charlotte Marshall - Club House Manager Nino Nieli - Arlesey Town Sundays Manager Matt Lloyd - Ticketing Manager Mick Marshall - Committee Member Corey Tyler - Committee Member Jason Marshall - Committee Member Tom Williams - Committee Member Lewis Clifford - Committee Member

Welcome To Your Committee TOM WILLIAMS (COMMITTEE MEMBER) I’ve lived in Arlesey all my life, and I’ve been on the committee since 2021, hoping to make a difference to a reallyimportant community institution. I’ve seen everything there is to see at the club with my most memorable game coming in the FA Cup first round when we played Coventry City away at the Ricoh Arena. I enjoy the Cup runs more than anything else. If ever you have used the “contact us” section on the website, well, it’s me that has replied to you. And on that note, if you have any suggestions, or if you’d like to book our function suite, join the committee or offer your services around the club, just drop me a message through the Arlesey Town website and I’ll reply to you just as soon as I can! You will see me around the club supporting the team and fixing anything that needs a handy man. We always need more hands on deck however, so if you want to grab me during a game for a chat, please feel free to do so. You’ll find me at both the home and away games. I’m excited for the season ahead having watched the team in pre season. We have a young, dynamic squad of players that are hungry for success. Make sure you come out to support your local team, we’re much stronger together! LEWIS CLIFFORD (COMMITTEE MEMBER)I first got involved with Arlesey Town Football Club through wanting to affiliate our Youth Team that my 11-year old son plays for. Then having seen the Chairmans’ outreach to the local community, I got involved and tried to see where I could help out. It’s been nice to be able to blend my day job with my committee role by introducing Interactive Displays to the set up (much like you see Gary Neville use on Sky Sports for analysis) – Our coaching staff now use these touch screens as part of the teams match preparation and post-match analysis. You’ll also see them around the main bar where fans can watch live sport throughout the year and kids can play FIFA on a huge 90” touchscreen. There is also a smaller monitor located to the right of the bar displaying all the latest news at the club. I’ve really enjoyed getting involved with general maintenance (mainly strimming!) and seeking new sponsors which we will proudly promote this coming 23/24 season. I would say if you do have any spare time to help out at your local club, then please do come down, even if you just want to take in a great venue with a family friendly atmosphere, it’s extremely rewarding – don’t sit around, just come in! We look forward to welcoming you! MATT LLOYD (TICKETING) I am a lifelong student/player of the beautiful game and have recently relocated to Arlesey from Birmingham. I have always harboured an ambition to find a local club for whom I could lend my support, give something back to the community and hopefully make a difference. So I am delighted to be joining the Arlesey Town FC committee for the 2023/2024 season. I have worked in ticket sales for the last 15 years and currently manage ATFC’s brand new ticketing platform. I also help the club with its sponsorship, marketing and social media operations. From the first game this season you will be bale to pre book your tickets for any Arlesey Town game, exclusively online. Please do come and say hello if you see me around the club or have any questions about online the online ticketing system. Chances are that I will be the only Brummy, so you won’t miss me…

Our present club was formally established in 1905 when it is believed that it adopted its first formal constitution. It achieved its first great success in the 1911/ 12 season by winning the Wycombe League. This Championship side was captained by George Slade, of Slade’s Garages, who later achieved fame as a champion motor cyclist and side car competitor. Like many village clubs it lost a number of its playing staff during the Great and second world wars. Indeed, the Cricket Club pavilion is a listed building and a memorial in remembrance of the lives lost French School Meadows, the home ground, takes its name from the long since demolished 18th century School catering for orphans of the French Revolution. The pupils wore a blue uniform with white feathers in their hat s giving rise to the club’s blue and white strip and the club logo. French School Meadows was purchased in 1949 (before then the team used to play on the back common) showers were installed in the 1960's, the brick building built in the 1980's and the extension developed in 2001. Prior to the building of the club house the HQ for the club was the Horse & Groom Public House. Penn & Tylers Green FC is not only one of the oldest clubs in the count y, it is also one of the biggest village sides. Every weekend some 400 children, youths and adult s pull on the blue and white stripes of Penn & Tylers Green Football Club. The age range spans from the “Fantastic Footballers” (Under-5) through every age group and all the way to youth and senior footballers including girls and ladies’ sections. Each team has a number of qualified, dedicated volunteers who ensure the continued success of the club. We are quite simply, the biggest organisation in the village providing vast numbers with the opportunity of participating in a marvellous team game. The club owes a huge debt to previous committee members and volunteers who have worked tirelessly over many years to provide the excellent facilities that we all enjoy today. The function room and pat io of the Sport and Social Club, provide an excellent set ting for a hazy lazy afternoon, watching Football in close proximity to an idyllic setting with views over the Chilterns and areas of outstanding natural beauty. With regular quiz nights and events, and not forgetting the famous beer festival, the club is the hub of community activity. The clubhouse is also available for hire and is ideal for meetings of local clubs, societies Today's Opposition Penn & Tylers Greensocieties or just to throw a great party! Given the number of Penn & Tylers Green Football Teams playing each week, it is simply not possible to accommodate all of them at our home ground. That is why we remain grateful for all local schools and recreational grounds for their continued support of the Club. However, it remains the desire of the Football Committee to ensure that as many Penn & Tylers Green teams as possible can play at French School Meadows and truly call it “home”. We continue to demonstrate our commitment in providing mini football to the children of the local area, they are our future. The club is the holder of the prestigious FA Community Charter Status and is so proud of its illustrious past but we are making enormous strides into the future. Enormous investment into the infrastructure of the club off the pitch by the way of the best pitch in the area and newly installed state of the art floodlight s is now being realised on the pitch with our new senior team pathway, a Ladies team and coaches that are the envy of clubs around us. The future is very bright in Penn? We are proud, of course, that the First Team won the Hellenic League – Division One (East) title in Season 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 and the Reserves winning the Hellenic League – Division Two (East) title in 2015/2016. The Reserves also won the Berks & Bucks Junior Cup in Seasons 2013/2014 and 2014/2015. In Season 2020/2021 the Ladies Team won the Division Three title of the Thames Valley Counties Women's Football League and gained promotion to Division One. This was surpassed when the Ladies won the Berks & Bucks Women’s Trophy in Season 2021/2022. The men’s First Team added to the club’s trophy collection by winning the Combined Counties Football League Division Challenge Cup in Season 2022/2023.

Good afternoon and welcome to New Lamb Meadow for today’s FA Vase Second Qualifying Round against Penn & Tylers Green. We come into this game off the back of a disappointing week of results, but one where we have focussed on the positives to get us back on track. This squad has so much quality running through it and ensuring that continues to translate into our performances is important. What we need to start doing is taking the chances that we are creating throughout games. It would be worrying if we weren’t creating and weren’t getting into the areas but ultimately we need to start putting the ball in the back of the net with the quality we’ve shown so far this season. I do have some sympathy for the boys though. Although we weren’t good enough in possession last Saturday, we scored a very good equaliser midway through the first half, which would have changed the game. It was flagged offside but with the benefit of the Veo recording it’s clear that Josh was robbed of yet another legitimate goal. Our confidence was low and that was added to by the early goal we conceded and scoring at that point would have changed things and given the boys a lift at that stage of the game. That is football though, I always stand by the fact that you can’t just be better than an opposition and you can’t just rely on certain things going your way. There are so many variables in football - weather, match officials, pitches, individual performance levels, etc. - and if any of those go against you it can sway the outcome. That’s why you have to be ruthless, you have to defend with everything you have, as a team, and you have to take the chances you create. We have done a lot of work on that this week and the boys are in a very good place going into this cup game. Now we just have to go out there and show what we can do - the hardest part in football but why we are all involved. I hope you enjoy the game and as always, please get behind the boys! Arlesey Town 0MATCH Crawley Green 2 REPORT CHRIS STERRY On a hot day possibly the last day of summer Crawley Green was the oppression, Arlesey were looking to recover from Tuesday whilst Crawley Green were looking to build on their win at Tring. The away side looked lively from the start, Joe Palmley fed in Nicolea Trif who won and early corner that was wipped into the side netting. Arlesey responded with a throw from Matt Gilbert who found Adam Turner who headed onto Archie Sayer in the box but he was unbalanced and the ball was cleared. Crawley were pushing up, Zion Selassie Yoseph worked into the box and shot past the post, and a long ball up found Terry Offey in the centre, the problem wasnt dealt with and he worked past the defender and as Ollie Skinner can out he stroked it past the keeper for 0-1 after just 7 mins. Arlesey looked to be struggling to get started; Gary Jones found Offeh well and he hit a good shot than needed a good save from Skinner and the ball was cleared by Will Mcclelland. Arlesey won a corner after good work by Turner which found Mcclelland but his half volley went past the post. Matt Gilbert played a good ball to Sayer who turned and shot but the keeper made a good save. A FK from Jones was well taken by Skinner, he released Reece Crowter quickly but his cross failed to find a player in blue and it was cleared. Another Crawley FK hit the wall before coming out to Joe Hankins who hit a long shot that was well taken by Skinner. Offey found Yoseph who hit a shot that was deflected and well taken by Skinner. Another long ball in found Jones who headed onto Yoseph who shot past the post again. Another Crawley corner found a Crawley player whoes shot was blocked and the danger cleared. A break from Arlesey saw Josh Helmore pass to Sayer who fed his man back and Helmore hit a great shot that beat the keeper and into the net but the linesman put his flag up. The ref thought it was a goal but checked with his assistant and it was ruled o/s by the narrowest of margins. Crawley continued to press forward; Offeh found Yoseph who headed wide. Arlesey tried to find some rhythm, a long ball found Helmore who headed onto Sayer who tried to find Crowter but his ball was to hard and missed him. A throw found Turner whoes header went straight to the keeper. And a corner found Mcclelland who shot past the post. A good move by Crowter found Turner who crooked in but just missed Alex Taylor at the far post. A cross in by Crowter was taken by the keeper and in added time a throw found Sayer who fed Turner who shot just past the post leaving it 0-1 at the break. Arlesey started positively as Taylor found Gilbert who crossed in to Crowter but he took an extra touch and it was taken by the keeper. With Arlesey pushing up a ball forward found Offeh in the centre again in space and he hit a really good shot past Skinner that flew into the net and it was 0-2 after 54 mins. Arlesey made a change as Tommy Ovens came on for Ryan Lamond whilst Crawley also made a change. A FK from Gilbert was an easy take for the keeper whilst Crawley won another corner that was headed over the bar. A good move by Taylor saw him appear to be fouled but it wasn't given and he found Gilbert who won a corner, but this was cleared. Helmore was fouled by Jones who was booked, but Tom Millett put his shot well over the bar.A break from Helmore saw him play a good ball to Crowter who crossed in but it was nowhere near any Arlesey player and it was cleared. Another Crawley corner was pulled back across the edge of the Arlesey area and Joseph Brinded shot just over the bar. Arlesey replaced Helmore with Joe Abe to inject some more pace up front. Abe was quickly into the game as he attacked I to the box, a big shout for hand ball went up as he shot but it wasn't given. Abe picked up the rebound and beat his defender and hit a good shot that brought a really good save out of the keeper. A Crawley player was booked for not retreating on a FK as time ran down. Arlesey replaced Millett with Gabe Ryan for one last effort. From an Arlesey corner the keeper punched clear, the ball was put back in towards Sayer and the keeper, the ball dropped to Mcclelland who managed to fire well over the bar from 6 yards out. A foul on Abe saw a FK put in by Gilbert that produced a corner. This found Mcclelland but he couldn't control it and it went out. In added time another FK found Sayer but his header went straight tovthe keeper. Leaving it with a 0-2 win for the visitors. Arlesey looked disjointed in this game, nothing really came off and they lacked "spark". Having said that if Helmore was o/s for his goal then the lino should be looking for VAR decision. Ot has been a bad week but Arlesey must put it behind them and look for alot better performance next week as they entertain Penn and Tyler's Green in the FA Vase on Saturday.
