First I would like to welcome you all to the game today where we host shefford which i”m sure will be another tough test, reflecting on the last 8 weeks the boys have been absolutely superb I said in January that the performances were coming and the boys have delivered were upto 6th in the form table and have only lost to 3rd and 4th in those 8 weeks and in those games nobody could argue if we came away with a result in either game especially Romania we had them defending on their edge off the box for the whole second half and got caught late with a second goal as we were committing men forward The last few weeks have been extremely difficult with injuries unfortunately Kai is out for the whole season Bruno is out now with a hamstring tear and we welcome Tommy back next week after his recent injury and I will come back into contention after hurting my ribs against Dunstable we welcome Lucas from Welwyn garden city who has joined us ahead off the shefford game . after the next 2 weeks we go to one game a week which will be nice and means we can relax a bit more and prepare more for the games ahead I certainly won’t be taking my foot off the gas and want us to finish as high as we possibly can Tommy Cooney - Manager Managers Notes Ex professional and ex Irish international played across non leagues from step 2-4 started coaching career as assistant manager at Dulwich hamlet fc now here! Potton. 2MATCH Arlesey Town. 1 REPORT CHRIS STERRY For this Gladwish Trophy match Arlesey rested several players and had others sick and injured which allowed Brandon Beaman and Jack Hare to earn a start from the u16s both making their full debutes and Callum Ridley from the u18s starting from the bench. On a still night and on a well grassed pitch Potton started strongly with an early corner that was put out for another as Potton pushed forward. This was deflected wide for a 3rd corner and this one was delivered in and stabbed past Ollie Skinner from close range by Shane Fox for an early 1-0 lead for Potton after just 4 mins. Potton kept up the pressure with a FK that was well headed clear by Matt Gilbert before a good ball found Josh Helmore who beat his defender in the corner and put across a great hard cross that beat the keeper and came to Rory Busby who headed past the keeper into the net for the equaliser and 1-1 on 7 mins. Jake Hare beat his man with a nice clip and hit a shot that was wide of the target. Montel Brown made a cross in that was cleared, before a Potton FK was delivered in and well taken by Skinner. Eddie Carrington attacked through the centre and found Busby but his shot was deflected for a corner that was cleared. As Potton countered Lewis Lynn tried to work towards the box but he was blocked by Dan Wappett, Lynn turned to make some space and Arlesey didn't close him down and he hit a tremendous shot that beat the diving Skinner and went just inside the post for 2-1 on 25mins and a great goal. Potton pushing forward now but Arlesey's young defence were growing together. From a long throw the ball was headed out by Beaman as far as the edge of the box going to a Potton forward who fired well over the bar. A Potton attack down the right saw a good shot and a really good save by Skinner. Another good ball Into the area was well headed clear by Josh Helmore leaving it at 2-1 at HT. Arlesey made a double change at the break as Dan Wappett was replaced by Steve Sylvester and Dan Hare was replaced by Yasin Boodhoo which made a small reshuffle. Jake Thomas had a long range shot that was well taken by Skinner before Arlesey made another change giving a debut for Callum Ridley who replaced Eddie Carrington. Ridley did well as he won the ball in the middle but his ball forward was blocked, Potton countered and Fox turned well and put in a good low cross which brought a good save from Skinner at a Potton forwards feet. A FK in by Matt Gilbert was headed out for an Arlesey corner but it was easily cleared before a good move with a ball over the top found Montel Brown who was fouled. From the FK the ball was delivered in and put over the bar by Busby. A Potton FK was well headed clear by Alex Taylor before the ball was delivered back in and well taken by Skinner. Another cross in found Fox but again his header was well taken by Skinner. Arlesey made another change with possibly an eye on Saturday as Josh Helmore was replaced by Adam Randall which again led to a reshuffle. As time ran down Taylor was booked for a push which was a little unnecessary. Gilbert attacked and beat his man and found Ridley who hit a shot that was deflected by the keeper for a corner but a FK was given to Potton which was strange. Deep into added time Busby broke through and was pushed over on the edge of the area that would have drawn a card from most refs but the FK was given. Tom Millett took the FK and drove it past the wall pulling a good diving save from the keeper leaving it 2-1 as the whistle blew and letting Potton progress to the next round of the cup. All 3 young players making their debutes impressed for Arlesey and bode well for the future.
