By 1750, England controlled 13
colonies in North America.

Question 1

• Why was it important for
England to establish the 13
colonies?

The 13 colonies had various raw
materials.

The British Government wanted to
make money off the colonies.

$$$

So, they set up a system where Colonists
had to sell their Raw Materials to England.

$$$

Ships would carry the raw materials from
the colonies to England.

$$$

Once the Raw Materials got back to England,
they would be turned into manufactured goods.

England would use these Manufactured Goods
but also sell them back to the colonists.

This system was known as Mercantilism.
England made money off the colonies.

Question 2:

• Why was it important for
England to maintain its
control over the colonists?

• How do you think the
colonists will react?
