LanzaBlues Autumn 2019

LanzaBlues-Programme(1)

Sara White’s LanzaBlues
Nov 2019 – Programme

Welcome to LanzaBlues – our first holiday with added dance!
We’re really looking forward to enjoying some chill time in Puerto
del Carmen with you and hope that you will have a wonderful
time.
We have put together this itinerary very much with freedom in
mind. You are not obliged to do all, or any, of the suggestions on
this list. But you are very welcome to join us for any or all of it!
We are staying in self-catering apartments so our eating
arrangements can be as flexible as we like. Eat in. Eat out. Mix it
up. Up to you!
Obviously the weather is a very big factor in your daily decision
making process. And the weather in Lanzarote at this time of year
will definitely be better than at home! There is no need to decide
in advance what your plans will be – and I am keeping the
arrangements very flexible, so we can adapt as needs be.

Monday
Monday is arrival day for most people, so I will try and be at the
apartments to greet you and make sure everything is OK for you
when you arrive – providing I haven’t fallen asleep by the pool….

I haven’t booked a group meal for Monday, as people are
arriving at very different times.

Monday evening

9 – 9.30pm – The Electric Island Bar (Address: Calle Tenerife, 19, 35510 Puerto

del Carmen, Las Palmas, Spain)

I’ve included a map for you (below) if you are driving (less than 10
mins) or walking (approx. 25 mins, I tend to walk straight down to
the sea and turn right) - you obviously can get a taxi (either by
asking at hotel reception, or just walking down to The Strip which is
the main street by the sea).
I am happy to arrange a meeting point on The Strip if anyone
would like to walk there together.

Monday Night

From Midnightish – Wall Street Bar (Address: C.C Playa Blanca, Calle

Timanfaya, 2, 35510 Puerto del Carmen, Las Palmas, Spain)

From Monday to Thursday we will be having a Blues Takeover in
the Wall Street Bar. We’ll be taking over the DJing and we can
dance there until 4am.
It is less than 10 minutes walk from the Electric Island bar to Wall
Street bar, and I have included a map for you. Again, if you
prefer to walk as a group, you are very welcome to walk there
with me.

4

There is a taxi rank pretty much outside the venue, which will
make it nice and easy to get back to the apartments.

Tuesday Daytime

11am – Clifftop path walk to Puerto Calero

Firstly – you can easily get to Puerto Calero by car or taxi… But the
clifftop path walk is very pleasant. The plan is to stroll, not hike!
There are a few ups and downs on the way, but it is a very well
used path and accessible to most although not to
Wheelchairs/motorised scooters because of one or two sections
with steps.

The starting point of the walk is in Old Town PDC so a good
meeting point will be near The Electric Island bar at 11ish. Coffee
is always a good plan and I recommend the Lanzarote specialty
Leche Leche before we set off…

The walk takes us along the boardwalk by the harbour where in
the past I have seen huge rays, lots of fish, ducks and cats co-
habiting, fabulous cactus gardens and recently there were
pictures of turtles swimming there

The walk will probably take about an hour or so, taking us to a
lovely marina where there are lots of restaurants, some nice shops
and sometimes a market. If you fancy going out off-roading
among the volcanoes, Buggies Lanzarote are based in Puerto
Calero and their 3hour tours are highly recommended – but
booking is essential.

I’d suggest having a light lunch, snack and a drink in Puerto
Calero before perhaps getting the water taxi back to PDC.

If you want to walk further, the clifftop path continues on to
Quemarda – a tiny fishing village with a lovely family run fish
restaurant right by the sea. This walk is much longer but certainly
doable.

Once back in the Old Town, you can either get a taxi back to the
apartments or walk back along The Strip where you have the
choice of bars and/or beaches.

6

Tuesday Evening

7.30/8pm – The American Indian Café – with live music by Perfect
Circus.
This bar is located on The Strip (head to the beach from the
apartments and turn right – probably a 15 min walk)
I’ve booked for 50 of us and we’ll all be seated in one area
together although we’ll be ordering individually, not as a whole
group.
The band start at 10pm and usually go through to about 1am –
and there is a small dance floor we are very welcome to use. You

7

don’t have to eat with us to join us there for a drink and to see the
band.
The Wall Street bar is a 10 – 15 min walk from here (or a short taxi
ride) and we can dance til 4am.

Wednesday Daytime
There is lots to see in Lanzarote and the history of how and why it is
the way it is, is very interesting.

It is easy to take a full day or half day bus tour and I am happy to
help you arrange.
If your preference is for something a little more chilled, then
depending on the weather, Wednesday might be a good day for
a bit of a pool party. Nothing too rowdy as we wouldn’t want to
upset the other guests, but maybe a little music and dancing by
the pool…

(… as long as the hotel and the other guests are OK with this – if
not, we will take it to the beach!)

Wednesday Night

Wednesday Night is (Sara) White Nite!
If the weather is kind to us we should all have a bit of colour by
now – even if that colour is lobster red! Bring something white to
wear – or dress up as Sara White!
7.30/8pm - We’ll be heading to the Highlander Too bar just above
the Old Town. This bar will have just been taken over by my foster-
brother, Simon and his wife Nikki on the Monday so they are very
excited about having us all visit them. This bar has a fabulous
inside/outside vibe going on, they play music and there is a big
open veranda area.

9

From here it’s back to the Electric Island bar for some party fun
and live music before we go for our Blues Takeover in the Wall St
bar. All three of these bars are in the Old Town, so very easy
walking distance between.

10

Thursday Daytime
As we will have headed mainly in the direction of Old Town in the
previous days, I thought it might be nice to head in the other
direction towards Los Pocillos – a long and sandy beach with
plenty of bars and restaurants along the way.
From here you can take a long, slow meander all the way along
to the airport and watch as the planes come into land just over
your head!
If you fancy hiring a pushbike or one of the four seater cycle
things, this is a really good direction to head in. There is a cycle
path that takes you all the way to the airport and beyond, there
are no noticeable hills and you can find plenty of places to
quench your thirst on the way.

11

Thursday Evening
Our last evening together and I’m thinking we’ll keep it chilled.
We are booked into the Asia Garden on The Strip for an all-you-
can-eat buffet from about 7.30/8pm – this is an upstairs restaurant
with lovely views of the sea.
I haven’t chosen any particular place for live music this evening,
as there are so many choices you might like to make your own
plans. And at midnight we’ll be back at Wall Street for our last
Blues Takeover…. Would be good to see you there for a bit of a
final send off.

12

General Information
All of the beaches have sun loungers for hire, and the beach
nearest us has a giant inflatable assault course in the sea that is
really good fun. (It is sometimes packed away out of the busy
season, so I don’t know if it will be there or not next week)
As you walk along the beaches you’ll probably spot some little
circular ‘nests’ that have been made in the sand. These are little
semi-circles of volcanic rock that have been made on the
beaches as sheltered sunbathing places. If no-one has claimed
them before you they are free to use.
In the harbour at Puerto Calero there is a glass bottomed
submarine trip that is very popular.
There are a lot of diving centres in the Old Town, including places
for you to learn to dive. The lava that cooled after volcanic
eruptions has caused natural reefs and they play host to an
abundance of sea life. The sea horses are my favourite.
If you fancy a whale or dolphin watching trip, these are available
from the Old Town too.
My phone number is +447921633650 if you need me. And you can
also text/whatsapp/messenger me if you need to.

The staff at the Tisalaya reception are very helpful and available
every day until 2am. They can book taxis, advise on trips and help
with directions and recommendations.

I’d like to wish you all a safe and pleasant journey and I’m looking
forward to seeing you in Lanzarote!

Take care
Sara
