The first electric motorcycle journey from Land’s End to John o’ Groats and the continued journey from there to the real top of the UK: Skaw on the island of Unst, Shetland.
On 18th August 2017, electric vehicle enthusiast and owner, John Chivers, became the first person to undertake a journey on an electric motorcycle from Land’s End to John o’ Groats. He then continued his journey to Skaw, at the very top of the UK on the island of Unst, Shetland.
The mainland part of the journey, from Land’s End to John o’ Groats, saw John cover a distance of 1409 km (875.51 miles) and was completed over four days, between Friday 18th August and Monday 21st August. On Tuesday 22nd August, John and his bike took the ferry from Scrabster on the UK mainland to Stromness on Orkney. An overnight ferry then took him to Lerwick on Shetland, from where he rode to Skaw, the top of the UK .

ZERO invests in Europe
The gloves are o , the growth in sales of our electric motorcycles in mainland Europe has resulted in Zero requiring a new
motorcycle distribution centre near Alkmaar in Holland to ensure motorcycle supply matches the ever-growing demand. The new building also provides the European base for a 14-strong team of dedicated professionals leading European operations.
With an unwavering focus on quality, the Zero team in Holland are committed to delivering exceptional value, performance, and fun for all Zero customers.
Our people are driven by innovation, charged by passion, guided by integrity and measured by results.
Not stopping there, Zero has also opened a new bespoke parts warehouse in Alkmaar. This managed by a specialist logistics

EVENTS
“The Electric Zero DS ZF7.2 Is the Tesla Model 3 of Motorcycles - It’s the only city bike you need.
For 10 years, California-based Zero Motorcycles Inc. has been carefully breaking into the broader bike market, o ering powerful emission-free motorcycles. Its newest bike, the Zero DS
ZF7.2, is the two-wheel equivalent of the much anticipated Tesla Model 3: cute, reasonably priced and superb for day-to-day use.
This is key because even though consumers like to believe they’re altruistic, they’re in fact not. They say they’d buy an electric vehicle (if they could a ord it), but studies show they’ll resist anything inconvenient. Who wants to worry about driving miles out of the way—and sitting and waiting—to recharge?
The DS 7.2 o ers 83 city miles on one charge, usually more than enough for a day’s use. It’s easily topped o ; you can plug it into your garage wall like a power saw (or even a lamp), and it will be fully charged from zero in four hours. A supercharger reduces that to 90 minutes.
For me—always on the move in a massive city—the DS 7.2 is a perfect fit. It has enough power to blaze past cars on the highway but is quiet enough to allow a polite person to feel a glimmer of pride, rather than horror, when riding through a peaceful neighbourhood. And it is silent. Be alert when
weaving through tra ic.
The DS stands for “dual sport,” which means the bike was developed for a variety of terrain, including dirt, mud, rocks and pockmarked asphalt. It handles these admirably, thanks to an adjustable Showa Corp. suspension and a sti aluminium body with a low center of
gravity.
Like the Model 3, the DS 7.2 has a clutchless drive, which produces 19 percent more torque than previous Zero DS models, plus an 11 percent increase in power. This means it can accelerate incredibly quickly and smoothly—no gears— and hang on through turns with a startling alacrity. The fat, knobby Pirelli tyres help. Top speed is just under 100 mph.
As far as convenience, the bike comes with a fair amount of storage space; credit the newly compact 34-horsepower motor that helped shave 96 pounds from the previous year’s model to get the bike down to a trim 317 pounds. Now there are two locking and water-resistant compartments at the center of the bike. They’re big enough to carry a phone, wallet, and water bottle but not, unfortunately, a laptop.

Police bike goes on trial
Zero Motorcycles has produced a specially developed police version of the electrically powered Zero DS, which has been on test with the Isle of Man, Merseyside and Midland Constabularies over the last six months.
Constable Andrew Greaves of Isle of Man police, who rode the Zero DS,
commented: “I’ve been very impressed with the Zero and the way in which it performs and handles. It has certainly created a lot of interest. The bike has
drawn a crowd wherever we’ve gone and there have been a lot of questions from members of the public. I’ve enjoyed riding the Zero and I can certainly see where the silent running of an electric motorcycle can bring big benefits when out on patrol.”
Following positive feedback, our demo bike will shortly be fitted with a top box and screen and back on test with the Merseyside Constabulary again in the new year.
The police bike is in the UK for 2018 and is available to trial for our emergency services. To arrange a trial please contact [email protected]

ADVANTAGES
Ownership Advantage - Exhilarating Performance -
Carefree Ownership!
There are some clear advantages to going electric: no need to visit the gas station, no oil, no exhaust, etc. In addition, there are a host of benefits experienced by Zero owners on a regular basis
that are not as obvious. Behind the design of each cutting edge model is a philosophy of elegant simplicity that keeps the weight of the motorcycle low, virtually eliminates all routine powertrain maintenance and yields stealthy acceleration. The result is an incredibly exhilarating ride and an ownership experience that appreciates mile a er mile.

Zero appoints new UK Country Manager
Zero Motorcycles, the global leader in the manufacture and sales of ground breaking electric motorcycles, has appointed Dale Robinson as its country manager for the United Kingdom.
Newcastle-based Dale, a lifelong motorcyclist who currently races classic superbikes, is understandably excited by the appointment, saying: “I was hooked from my first test ride and truly amazed at how fast Zeros are o the line, the acceleration just makes you laugh out loud,
a real hoot. My aim is to have them disappearing out of our dealers’ showrooms at the same sort of rate.
“My objectives are clear and simple, to establish Zero as the go to brand for electric motorcycles in the UK. Being able to fully charge our motorcycles in an hour for 2018 is game changing and has just made this objective much easier”.
