Volunteer Spotlight:
Meet our amazing volunteer Anastasia!
Anastasia is a first-year medical student at MU, who has consistently
dedicated 3-hours per week out of her busy schedule to help with
our Family Development program. During Anastasia’s time here,
she has provided us not only with immense administrative support,
but also with friendship. Anastasia has truly become part of the
CMFCAA family. While volunteering, Anastasia has had the chance
to meet a resource family who cares for a medically fragile child and
learned about the many ways our families support youth in care.
“I’ve loved volunteering in the office at CMFCAA; the staff are
wonderful and clearly passionate about their work. Even from my
very first day in the office, I felt like a valued member of the team
and have enjoyed spending time with everyone, all while learning
so much about the fostering and adoption process in MO. Learning
about the difficult realities of this work while also seeing real-life
happy outcomes has motivated me to continue coming back!”

98Our story began when we were selected as adoptive parents
+for a private adoption of a newborn, when last minute
circumstances changed. Due to the urgency of the situation,
we needed to get licensed for foster care immediately or
76lose contact with the child. Our hearts were devastated,
frantic and lost for direction. Our first call was to our licensing
worker from our previous kinship adoption. Boone County
immediately put us in contact with Carol Montie at CMFCAA.
From the moment we spoke with Carol, she recognized the
urgency of our situation and immediately jumped into action.
Within a few hours, we were sitting down with Samantha
Green beginning our interview process and paperwork,
24 hours later we began classes. Feeling so helpless and
coming from such a frantic state, both Carol and Sam
were not only professional, but compassionate. They
equipped us with the tools needed and gave us direction
how to navigate thru this ongoing case.
We often look back at this critical moment and
recognize what a blessing this team has been
to our family. Their display of urgency,
dedication and knowledge is what we, as
foster parents, need. The CMFCAA training
empowers, equips and inspires parents to
better serve families.
While our case is still ongoing today,
December 12, 2020, we celebrate our

Thank you to the leadership, the team,

the connections made are something
we will carry with us for a lifetime.
