EDC Annual Report 2022
Special remarks by Deputy Rector Student Development & Community Engagement, IIUM Assalamu’alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh In the Name of Allah, The Most Beneficent and Most Merciful. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC), IIUM for the success in the publication of this Annual Report. This project is topical and pertinent, and I think it has the potential to act as a catalyst for future successful, high-impact, and significant entrepreneurial initiatives. The function of university in fostering entrepreneurship is becoming more widely acknowledged. University can encourage student interest in entrepreneurial activity and career prospects by offering entrepreneurship education packages. Thus, IIUM must also establish an entrepreneurial ecosystem and offer a framework for academics and students to enhance their entrepreneurial mindset. This can be accomplished by offering entrepreneurship courses, developing interactive programmes, hands-on curriculum, training entrepreneurship educators, and holding events like competitions, showcases, and carnivals that have a big impact on encouraging the growth of an entrepreneurial culture. I am very delighted to witness numerous impactful and meaningful activities and initiatives of EDC in 2022. I also want to congratulate Dr. Ros Aniza Mohd. Shariff, Director of EDC, IIUM, and her team for taking the initiative to publish several publications, including the Entrepreneurship Handbook, the IIUM Entrepreneurship Educators Module 1.0, the EDC Annual Report 2019/2020, the EDC Annual Report 2021, and the EDC Annual Report 2022. These publications serve as helpful resources for both students and entrepreneurship educators. Finally, I take this opportunity to express my heartfelt appreciation to thank everyone who helped make this book possible. In order to support and promote greater innovation and entrepreneurial activity, university must play a significant role. I really hope that the IIUM community and the general public will benefit from the effort to publish this Annual Report. Thank you and Best Wishes. Prof. Dr. Akmal Khuzairy Abd. Rahman. Assalamu’alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh In the Name of Allah, The Most Beneficent and Most Merciful. The current academic year has been both exciting and demanding. I am really happy of the publishing of the Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) Annual Report 2022, which detailed all of the organization's activities and accomplishments for the whole 2022 calendar year. This is the third time we have released an annual report. The articles in this edition were written during the academic year of 2022. In order for the students to reach their full potential, we at EDC are committed to creating and upholding a setting that is extremely suitable to student entrepreneurial programmes and activities. Their potential goes beyond what they can do in the educational setting. I am overjoyed to see the Entrepreneurship Development Centre's numerous noteworthy and significant activities and efforts in 2022. Despite the obstacles, EDC and our gifted students were still able to accomplish a number of outstanding entrepreneurial feats, including being named the Video Category Champion for the Digital Innovation Creative Entrepreneurs Bootcamp organised by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and UNISZA. IIUM team (Artista, IIUM) also qualified as semi-finalists for the "Pertandingan Usahawan Inovasi Piala Menteri Pengajian Tinggi" competition organised by MOHE and UTHM. In addition, two of IIUM teams (Krypton and EzCare) qualified for the final round (finalists) of Innovation & Technology Challenge 2021 (In-Tech 21) organized by MOHE and UM. Our IIUM team (Digiduck, IIUM) also managed to become the first runner-up for Video Creative Category in Digital Entrepreneurship Competition 2022 organised by Majlis Keusahawanan Mahasiswa Universiti Malaysia (MAKMUM), UTHM and UTM. Additionally, our team for Nescafe competitions is exceptionally talented and dedicated. In 2022, IIUM secured three prizes: first place in the Bonus Challenge (Cup Design: Be the Next Nescafe Picasso), second place in the Nescafe Youth Entrepreneurship Programme Group Challenge and sole winner for the Nescafe Youth Entrepreneurship Programme University Challenge for upholding SOP. In a national competition for digital entrepreneurship, our IIUM teams also had success. In the Impact Digital Entrepreneurship Apprentice @ Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi (IDEA @ KPT) competition, which was conducted by MOHE and UTM, we placed third in the Video Story Category and third in the Case Study Category. The Idea, Product and Commercial Competition (I-Procom 2022), which was hosted by MOHE, Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (MEDAC), and UMT, also recognised us as the Best Presenter Award winner and third-place overall winner. Moreover, we can also be proud of our track record in the social entrepreneurship field. We placed fifth in MOHE and UPSI's Social Entrepreneurship @ University to Community competition and earned the Best Booth Exhibition Award as champion. No task of the kind described in this yearly report can be completed without the assistance of several people. I want to sincerely thank Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato' Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, IIUM's Rector, and Professor Dr. Akmal Khuzairi Abd. Rahman, IIUM's Deputy Rector Student Development and Community Engagement, for their unwavering support. Additionally, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to my esteemed staff at EDC for their tireless efforts in making this Annual Report available. Finally, I want to thank all the students who did a fantastic job engaging in EDC's programmes and events, as well as to all entrepreneur educators. I hope you will feel a little of the pride that I, along with everyone else who lives in our welcoming and encouraging community, have in EDC as you turn the pages and get immersed in the year's events. I wish you all good luck and a successful life ahead. Amin. Best wishes, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ros Aniza Mohd. Shariff. Page 3

Entrepreneurship Development Centre (formerly known as Entrepreneurship and Management Unit) has been established under the Student Development Division since 2004. The Majlis Meeting No.98 which was held on 28 October 2010 had approved the establishment of Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) in order to coordinate and manage activities as well as to conduct entrepreneurshiprelated academic programs. At its early stage of operation on 3 January 2011, EDC had begun its operation with only two officers. Later, on 15 February 2011, the first Director of the Entrepreneurship Development Centre had been appointed to lead the over-spilling entrepreneurial activities which cater the high demand of entrepreneurship programs. With the abundance of activities and programs, the expansion of staff has successfully uphold the Centre as a leading centre of entrepreneurship. EDC Background Page 7

“Almost everything worthwhile carries with it some sort of risk, whether it’s starting a new business, whether it’s leaving home, whether it’s getting married, or whether it’s flying into space.” – Chris Hadfield While this is true, not all dangers are created equal. Starting a business seems like less of a risk than going into space. But it puts things in perspective and recognises that nothing is risk-free, so don't strive to entirely bubble-wrap your business. Of course, be cautious, but not to the point of complacency. ekil s mees sseni sub a gnitr at S.l auqe det aer c er a sr egnadll at on, eurt si si ht eli h W dna evit cepsr ep ni sgni ht st up ti t uB . ecaps ot ni gni og naht ksir a f o ssel r uoy par w-el bbub yl erit ne ot evirt s t' nod os , eerf-ksir si gni ht on t aht sesi ngocer . ycnecal p mocf ot ni op eht ot t ont ub, suoit uac eb, esr uocf O. sseni sub Page 15
