Mount Etna

Jonah Weavil

Mount Etna, Sicily, Italy

Jonah Weavil

Mount Etna is one of the most active
volcano’s in history with major and minor
eruptions every year.

Mount Etna is located on the eastern shore
of Sicily.

Most of Etna’s eruptions occur at the
summit where there are 5 different craters.

Jonah Weavil

Most other eruptions occur along the faces
of the mountain. These are called flank
eruptions

There are hundreds of flank peaks along
the slopes of Etna.
Most are dormant but will erupt without a
slight hint.

Jonah Weavil

Scientist monitor Mount Etna because of its
extremely high volcanic activity and close
proximity to other civilian populations.

Etna is not known to be extremely
destructive to the surrounding villages and
towns.

Only 1 town has been destroyed and that
happened in 1928

Jonah Weavil

Etna is very impactful on the surrounding
areas because it is a tourist attraction.

The human impact is significant because
many people consider the mountain to be a
life source.

Farmers use the volcanic soil around the
mountain to produce some of the best
produce in all of Europe.

Jonah Weavil

Although Etna is one of the most active
most active volcanoes in the world, it is not
the deadliest.

The cities and towns surrounding Etna need
the mountain. For tourism and for their daily
life
