National Association of Real Estate Brokers, Inc.

January 19, 2019
Dear Realtists, It is with great pleasure that I extend warm greetings from the
NAREB family as the Philadelphia Metropolitan Board of Realtist
(PMBR) installs new leadership and welcomes Ms. Darlene
Meekins as the chapter’s 37th president.
Since our founding 72 years ago, the National Association of
Real Estate Brokers (NAREB) has understood and has valued the
power of our local chapters. Realtists and our local leadership
represent NAREB’s primary strength. Dedicated Realtists here in Philadelphia and
across the country work daily to make homeownership possible for Black
Americans.
I know that a Realtist’s commitment to and belief in Democracy in Housing
supports and focuses a commitment to build legacy wealth through
homeownership for Black Americans. PMBR exemplifies that purpose for which
we are all thankful and most appreciative. You serve and strengthen the fabric of
your community. You offer hope and a pathway to Black Americans seeking to
build a stronger, more financially secure future through homeownership.
I congratulate the new leadership team and have every expectation that your
strategies and seasoned approaches work to increase Black homeownership in
the Philadelphia area. Your work carries meaning. PMBR’s successes have
meaning and help to reshape lives. A fine example is the chapter’s decision to
involve teenage youth from the North Light Community Center in the evening’s
events. Sharing, guiding, modeling and mentoring makes me appreciate even
more PMBR’s deep commitment to community service and young people’s
achievement.
In closing, I look forward to seeing and talking with each of you in Miami, FL,
February 20-23, 2019 during NAREB’s Mid-Winter Conference and having you
share your voices and experiences with the larger NAREB family.
In the Realtist spirit,
Jeffrey Hicks
President
National Association of Real Estate Brokers, Inc.

Greetings:
Dear Realtist, Partners and friends. I greet you in the Realtist spirit with love admiration for your continue support in the city of
Philadelphia, where the founders of our local organization started their quest for equal and fair housing in 1935. The organization
meet with the other likeminded African American real estate professionals in Tampa, Fl , in the summer of 1947 to form the National
Association of real estate Brokers, determined to work towards and promote “democracy in housing”. This is a true testament to
leadership sustainability and sheer commitment.
Serving as President of Philadelphia Metropolitan Board of Realtist has been an honorable and gratifying experience. After serving
two terms, I was pleased with the accomplishments and progress we made. In 2015 under the leadership of past National Presidents,
Philadelphia held the first SHIBA , State of Hosing in Black America, forum and real estate Professional symposium equipping our
members with information to withstand barriers to homeownership. In 2016 Philadelphia hosted the first regional conference in the
city of Philadelphia for Region III where we rolled out our 2 million black homeowners in 5 years initiative with educational forum
for members and “Community Day” for consumers. In 2017 we strived to promote wealth building in the black community as we
educated, advocated and tried to elevate our community homeownership rate. In 2018, we proudly celebrated the 50th anniversary of
fair housing. We challenged the mortgage disparity and other factors that affect black homeownership. We displayed our pride as we
wore our “Black homeownership Matters” buttons and won the NAREB national fair housing video.
I like to extend my appreciation to all our valued Realtist, Partners, Vendors and friends that supported us along the way; couldn’t
have done it without you. I look forward to working with the new administration as we continue to promote equal and fair housing,
building and maintaining wealth through homeownership in our community. I urge you to continue your support and invite others to
join and helps us make homeownership priority#1.
I have a great passion for NAREB and the NAREB family. Together we are a community of believers capable of accomplishing
great things; as we spur one another toward love and good deeds. Hebrew 10:24
Again, I thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as your past President and to serve as Your Regional Vice President for
Region III.
In the Realtist Sprit,
Arlene Wayns – Thomas

The Negro National Anthem: "Lift Every Voice and Sing"
by James Weldon Johnson (June 17, 1871 - June 26, 1938)
Originally written by Johnson for a presentation in celebration of the birthday of Abraham Lincoln. This was
originally performed in Jacksonville, Florida, by children. The popular title for this work is:
'THE NEGRO NATIONAL ANTHEM'
Lift every voice and sing
Till earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise
High as the listening skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us,
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun
Let us march on till victory is won.
Stony the road we trod,
Bitter the chastening rod,
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
Yet with a steady beat,
Have not our weary feet
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears have been watered,
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered,
Out from the gloomy past,
Till now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.
God of our weary years,
God of our silent tears,
Thou who has brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who has by Thy might
Led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, Our God, where we met Thee;
Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee;
Shadowed beneath Thy hand,
May we forever stand.
True to our GOD,
True to our native land
