THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Some of you might remember an artist by the name of Ken Dodd; he
was a comedian and a song writer. As I was thinking about this thought
for the day, I was reminded about some verses’ in one of his popular
songs and it goes like this, -

Happiness to me is an ocean tide
A sunset fading on a mountain side
A big old heaven full of stars above
When I'm in the arms of the one I love

Oh, happiness, happiness, the greatest gift that I possess
I thank the Lord that I've been blessed
with more than my share of happiness

Everybody likes to party and enjoy life at some time but over the last
two years it has not been much of a party with all the restrictions of
lockdown, there has certainly not been much happiness to shout about.

Unfortunately many people have lost loved ones and have had to get
used to a different form of life style, but at last things are beginning to
get back to normal, but what is the normal?, we will still have to be
careful in how we live for the sake of others. Will we be able to share in
the happiness that we used to enjoy before Covid?

On March 20th the world celebrates the United Nations International
Day of Happiness. This is a time to unite and bring joy back into our
lives again and to those around us. According to the Oxford dictionary
the word happiness is described as feeling or showing pleasure or con-
tentment and after such a long time of restrictions I am sure we are all
hoping for that.

Research has shown that our happiness is based on 50% genes and up-
bringing, 40% activities and relationships and 10% on income and envi-
ronment. This means that the conscious actions we take every day con-
tribute 40% of our happiness.

In Ecclesiastes 3 v 12, 13 it states “I know that there is nothing better
for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of
them may eat and drink and find satisfaction in all their toil, this is a gift
from God.

So let us keep in mind that ultimately our happiness is founded with
God and our faithfulness to him. Allow ourselves to be happy and set
free by sharing with others and find peace in all that we do.

So, as I finish, I leave you with another verse from Ken Dodd’s song,

A wise old man told me one time
Happiness is a frame of mind
When you go to measuring my success
Don't count my money count my happiness

Oh, happiness, happiness, the greatest gift that I possess
I thank the Lord I've been blessed
With more than my share of happiness

REVISION OF THE ELECTORAL ROLL
The Church electoral roll is the foundation of the whole structure of syn-
odical government in the church. It contains the names and addresses of
everyone who can vote at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting. The
electoral roll is revised annually.
The only people who need to fill in an application form are those who
have recently moved into the parish, joined the church, or reached the age
of 16. Announcements will be made in church each Sunday during the 14
days the notice is displayed. If you wish to be on the electoral roll and
meet the criteria which is set out on the application form, please then com-
plete and sign the form and return it by 17th April at the latest to church.
Application forms will be available from church.

EASTER LILLIES
If you would like to sponsor a lily for Easter, either in memory of a
loved one, as a thanksgiving, or as a contribution to the church decora-
tion for this festival, please contact Maggie Thomas (624699) or
Jenny Billinge (626110) by Sunday 3rd April. This is something we’ve
been doing for the last few years, and our church family has enjoyed
taking part. The cost is remaining the same, which is £2.50 per lily. If
you could please give the money to Maggie or Jenny at the time of or-
dering, that would be helpful.

Book of Daniel” during Lent. The four sessions are:

March 13th – The Importance of Worship (Daniel 3)
March 20th – The Importance of Prayer (Daniel 6)
April 3rd – Behind the Scenes (Daniel 10)

The series will help us to reflect on the choices we make and encourage
us that “God is for life and not just Sundays”!

ZOOM LENT COURSE
All Saints Kesgrave

Five Wednesdays 7.15pm

9th March 16th March 23rd March 30th March

6th April

Led by Sally Wainman and Mike Bryer

Lent is a time of exploration and over the five evenings themes on
justice, exile, ‘waiting’ will be examined, initially through a television
drama (2001) called “Anybody’s Nightmare” based on the true story of
Sheila Bowler.
She was a 62 year old music teacher who suddenly found herself
unjustly accused of murder and she was played brilliantly by Patricia
Routledge.
The evenings will be a mixture of film, music, prayer, bible study, and
Compline (Night Prayer) finishing not later than 8.45pm

No previous knowledge needed, so all are most welcome; you do not
have to attend all the sessions but if you can come to the first one it will
help ‘set the scene.’

The Zoom link will be published on the All Saints Kesgrave website:
https://www.askesgrave.org/welcome.htm

This course is in addition to all our normal services, including an Ash
Wednesday service on 2nd March at 7.30pm (Zoom) led by Robin.

There is also a Quiet Morning in church on Wednesday April 13th
called the Warmth of Silence: 09.30am – 12.30pm; please book for this
if you can as it will help me plan for the relevant numbers!

For all enquiries, please contact Sally Wainman 07807 984589

As the “bread around the meat” of the Lent Course sessions we are
planning two Zoom events:

ASH WEDNESDAY Zoom Service
March 2nd at 7.30pm
Join us for a special service to mark the beginning of Lent!
We will be looking at Isaiah 42:3
" A bruised reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.
In faithfulness he will bring forth justice; "

also quoted in Mathew's Gospel - Mathew 12: 20
"A bruised reed he will not break,

and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out,
till he has brought justice through to victory."
We will reflect on God's compassion over human's frailty and fragility.

Worship, prayers, and reflection will be part of the service, reminding
us of our frailty while receiving God's blessing.

MAUNDY THURSDAY SERVICE
April 14th at 7.30pm
We will meet for worship, prayer, and reflection on this traditional day
of the Christian calendar. Do join us. Our April newsletter will have
more information.
The links to Zoom services will be available both on the Church website
and our Facebook page.

DO YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW NEED PRAYER?

If at any time you or someone you know are in need of prayer, we have
an active prayer ministry who would love to pray for you. We believe
that God answers all of our prayers, as he loves us dearly and knows
just what we need. We have seen God work in so many different ways
through the prayer ministry. Please do not hesitate to contact if you feel
this can help.

If your prayer request is urgent, contact our prayer chain by call-
ing John Wittgreffe on 07857 838678 or email ask.prayer-
[email protected] specifying "Prayer Chain".

If you have an ongoing request for prayer, each Wednesday a
prayer request email goes out to ministers and faithful people who
will include your request in their prayers on Wednesday, or as soon as
possible thereafter. If you would like your prayer included, please use
the same contact as above stating "For Wednesday prayers", or both
Wednesday Prayers and Prayer Chain if appropriate.

All information is considered private to those who take part in the pray-
ers. If, however, you feel something is very sensitive, please mention
this and we will make the prayers anonymous before they go out- God
still knows who you mean!

If you would like private prayer with a minister, you can request this
and we will work something out for you. If for any reason John is una-
vailable, please contact one of our ministry team as in our contacts list.

"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circum-
stances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." 1 Thessa-
lonians 5:16-18

THE ASK JOURNAL -

“And surely I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew
28:20

It won’t come as a surprise to many of you to know that as a family we
love the great outdoors. Most weekends, whatever the weather, we’ll
pack up a flask and picnic, and head to the seaside, river or countryside
for a walk and a potter! Each location has its own special gifts and is an
opportunity to walk and get some exercise and to connect with the
beauty of the natural world around us.

This past weekend was no different. Despite some fairly sunny and
mild days so far this winter, this particular Sunday afternoon as
Walberswick the skies were grey, the wind was blowing a hoolie and
our faces were stinging from the cold despite scarves and bobble hats.
Not to be deterred, we headed to a shop for sweetie supplies and then up
the high street towards the woods and marshes. Once we were striding
out and hidden amongst the trees, we were more sheltered and began to
warm up. The wind rustling through the reeds created a wonderful,
soothing sound and as we turned the corner, we were met by three beau-
tiful, graceful cygnets gliding along Dunwich River.

Finally, our walk took us up the steep bank of shingle onto the beach.
And my, what a sight to behold! The strong wind was whipping up the
sea and huge waves were rolling in towards the land and crashing onto
the shore. The roar from the wind and the waves was immense, and as
the water was sucked back from the shore, a great line of sea foam was
left on the sand – so much of it that it looked like snow! We stood for
quite some time simply watching in awe at the beauty and strength of
the elements. Despite the noise from the wind and the sea, I became
aware that if you crouched down low you could hear the quiet fizzing
and popping of the sea foam bubbles as they burst. And I realised as I
looked at them from a certain angle, that I could see the most wonderful
rainbow colours! Each bubble looked like a bright, gleaming jewel –
deep purples, jade greens and sapphire blues – and I was suddenly so
aware in that moment that God is with us. In the roar of the wind and

the crashing of the waves, as well as in the beautiful, delicate rainbow
bubbles and in the quiet of the fizzing, popping sea foam. This beauty in
nature reminded me that whatever we face – whether life is too loud and
full-on and sometimes feels too mighty to handle, is fragile, or is beauti-
ful and quiet and gleaming - God is always with us, walking beside us.
What an amazing truth that is!

Jennie Fidler, Children & Family Worker

MARCH GIVING 2022
March is marked by stormy weather, the hope of Spring, and the feast
day of St Patrick which falls on 17th March.

St Patrick himself led a stormy life, being captured by pirates when he
was about 14 years old and brought to Ireland to be a shepherd; he es-
caped captivity when he was 20 years old, after receiving God’s guid-
ance through a dream and was enabled to return to his family in Britain.
However, another dream showed the people of Ireland calling out to
him to return and in response Patrick started studying for the priesthood,
later being ordained a Bishop and sent to preach the gospel in Ireland in
fulfilment of that dream. The wonderful hymn St Patrick’s Breastplate
celebrates the strength of the Trinity:

I bind unto myself today
The strong name of the Trinity

By invocation of the same
The Three in One and One in Three

Of whom all nature has creation

Eternal Father, Spirit, Word
Praise to the Lord of my Salvation

Salvation is of Christ the Lord

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUrERen9Vyc

As we enter Lent, with Ash Wednesday on March 2nd we too can share
in this strength and protection of the Trinity.
