ALL SAINTS KESGRAVE NEWSLETTER ISSUE NO 109 – 31.03.24 April 2024 THOUGHT FOR THE DAY WORD FROM THE STUDY A happy and peaceful Easter to you all from all our Churches. People look forward to this time of year as a sign of better weather, or at least dryer weather after the winter we have had or even longer days; and talking of time, one of my favourite passages from the Old Testament is from the Book of Ecclesiastes, it talks about a time for everything. A
time to plant; a time to uproot; a time to weep and a time to laugh. It was made into a song by a group in the sixties called The Birds. God offers much wisdom in this passage. There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under Heaven. The season of Easter is one of God breaking into our time; and is the fulfilment of that. A hero on Palm Sunday, to zero on Good Friday. Mocked, crucified, and on Easter Sunday reconciled with and his people. No longer has death a hold over us, it has been defeated, and a new life In Christ for those who believe in him., imagine the joy on that Sunday, when a woman called Mary Magdalene and some of Jesus' disciples visited the tomb, only to find the boulder pushed to one side and the inside completely empty - joy beyond comprehension. He has risen! Easter is all about God’s time. A time when God’s plan for creation came to fruition. I believe that we should accept every day as a gift from God and Easter is a time that promotes that message. God has a reason and a time for all things; we may not know God’s timing, but are called to enjoy life in the present and trust our Lord in his timing. Within a couple of months, the debate for the General Election will start in earnest; parties from all sides of the spectrum will be gearing up to present their manifestos; each one trying to convince us to vote for them. Which will be the right choice? Which will be the wrong choice? That will be up to the individual to choose when they go into the voting booth and place their cross against the one they want. The cross that we have is the one that has dealt with the past, made us fit for purpose, and secured our future hope in Christ. Easter, God’s time for our time, that’s good news for you, for me, and for all humankind. Easter blessings to you all. Reverend Gary Jones

EASTER EGGS for “HOME FOR GOOD” Dear All, Thank you so much for your generosity in donations for Easter eggs to be purchased for the home for good charity. Home for good support and connect with all families living in Suffolk who foster or adopt or who provide special guardianship. They do this through groups and events, online information, sessions and resource loans. The charity look to churches in Suffolk to support through prayer, resources, and or financial support. It has been a pleasure to support campaign that aims to provide all children in looked after care in Suffolk with an Easter egg from the churches in Suffolk this Easter. With your generosity and kindness we were able to contribute 60 Easter eggs from All Saints Kesgrave. When Melissa, the East Suffolk representative collected the eggs, Melissa explained each egg would have a label on to say 'Easter blessings from All Saints Church Kesgrave'. Thank you again for your kindness. I enclose below a picture of all the eggs and a web address that takes you to the home for good Suffolk Web page for prayer support and other information. https://networksuffolk.org.uk/2024/02/easter-egg-collection-can-you-oryour-church-support-home-for-good-this-march/ Date Time Service Where / Who to contact Sun 28th Apr 8.30am9.30am Holy Communion at ASK All Saints Church Kesgrave Sun 28th Apr 10.00am11.00am All Age Service at ASK (Livestreamed) All Saints Church Kesgrave ASK Church YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtZ91ENdlxMPUZYDHR5-aQ Sun 28th Apr 10.00am11.00am Family Communion At Little Bealings All Saints Little Bealings Mon 29th Apr 2.00pm4.00pm Silver Screen at ASK All Saints Church Kesgrave

The five love languages describe five ways that people receive and express love in a relationship. These are words of affirmation, quality time, physical touch, acts of service, and receiving gifts. Bishop Mike looked at the way both God and our own experience of mothers fulfilled these 'languages.' Eg I can remember my mum sitting for hours in the gallery, calmly knitting away whilst I did length after length of the Empire swimming pool in Cardiff. (These five languages are useful for almost any relationship as it helps us to gain perspective on acts of encouragement) On one of the first retreats I ever went on we were asked to think about these very simple words: God made us, God knows us, God loves us. Through that knowledge, God watches over us and cares for us.
Sally Wainman FROM THE DARKNESS TO THE LIGHT “And there was evening and there was morning – the first day” from Genesis 1 (The story of Creation) The Eastern Orthodox Church traditionally celebrates the arrival of the new day at sundown on the previous day, with the service known as Vespers, followed later by Compline – the last service before going to sleep. These services prepare and guard the human soul during the hours of darkness and give a greater clarity to the morning when it dawns. The wording in the Book of Genesis may seem back to front but why does it help us? It reflects the laws of nature where seeds or bulbs emerge from the darkness of the wintry earth to Spring; it reflects the birth of a child when it comes from the darkness of the womb out into the world and it can genuinely help us in the morning if we prepare the night before with clear intentions. (This is something that anyone can try out for themselves.)
It is also another way of showing us that Christ is with us day or night, that God neither slumbers or sleeps (Psalm 121). As March gives way to April, new life will spring up everywhere in the garden, with the weeds showing particular eagerness of course, and during this time of greater light and more encouragement, we hope you will join us for many of our services! FINANCE AND PARISH SHARE 2024 We have three main financial responsibilities as a church: 1) To keep the church going in all its myriad ways! • Have a look at the website What's On page to see all that we offer in the way of services, events; • Add in the less visible part of our work: pastoral visiting, home communions, services in care homes • Add in baptisms, weddings, funerals • Add in the huge amount of voluntary effort that sustains all this 2) To keep the church in good repair (Fabric) The permanent parts of the church: wood, stone, bricks etc are termed the Fabric of the church; continual maintenance is necessary to provide a safe, welcoming building that meets the modern standards of health and safety 3) Parish Share paid to the Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich each year The Parish Share is our share of the total Diocesan costs spread across 400 + parishes; it covers the cost of stipendiary Vicars, the cost of ongoing ministerial training and study days, the cost of most of the legal advice and back-up we receive, and the work of the DAC (Diocesan Advisory Committee) which advises on fabric, Faculties, churchyards etc
Our Benefice Share for 2024 is £74,346 and our share of the Share is £54,196 If you would like to contribute specifically to the Share please let Emma Burrows or myself know so that your donation is ringfenced for that purpose THANK YOU to each and everyone who make all three parts possible: you are part of centuries of generosity!
