All Saints Kesgrave Newsletter June- July 2026

THOUGHT FOR THE DAYTrinity Sunday is always one that makes interesting sermons from Ministers and Clergy alike. Over the years, I expect like me, you have countless ways of expressing the three in one God which we serve, from clover leaves to Olympic rings, to a can of three in one oil. The triune God has and always will be at the heart of our worship. Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Three persons in one God but all in unity together. Jesus said “To have seen me is to have seen the Father” and then promises His followers “I will never leave you as orphans”. The Holy Trinity is significant because it expresses the deepest Christian belief about who God is; one God in three distinct persons - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This is not a mathematical puzzle, but a revelation of God’s inner life and how God relates to humanity. The Church teaches that the Trinity is a divine mystery - not meaning “nonsense,” but a truth beyond full human comprehension. We can understand that it is true, but not fully how it works. Jesus said “Believe in me and believe in the one who sent me”. Sometimes our minds are too small to understand the vast complex of our creation. We live in an uncertain world at the moment, sometimes we wonder what is going to happen next. One thing is for certain; we don’t know what the future holds - but we know the one who holds the future. When we talk about the Trinity, do you notice one thing? Yes—there are three persons in God, but they are all in unity.. When writing this I had a

thought cross my mind, as a benefice we have been together only a short time, but as time goes on, we discover we have more that unites us than divides us. Yes, one urban church and two different rural church communities, yet each one has so much to offer. Just look at the parish profile that was created. As human-beings we tend to dwell on negativity and sometimes that is understandable, but the breadth of God’s love for us all shows even when we are not at our best, God is. There is a funny story about a curate who was preaching his sermon. After the service, he asked his Vicar what he thought of the sermon. “Well,”, said the Vicar “It had its roots deep in scripture”. “Really”? said the curate excitedly, “Yes” sighs the Vicar, “It was a bit like the peace of God, it passed all human understanding, and like the mercy of God, it seemed to endure forever”. We have so much to be grateful for and people who love us for who we are. We have more that unites than divide us, so in this season of Trinity, let us rejoice in a God who knows us better than we know ourselves, and show love for one another as He loves us. With love and Prayers. Rev Gary JonesHOLY COMMUNIONYou are warmly invited to a short service of Holy Communion on Wednesday, 17th June at 9.00am at All Saints Kesgrave, followed by tea and coffee at approximately 9.30am for around 15 minutes. This will be an opportunity for you to meet the candidate we are all eagerly anticipating. Please continue to pray for our Benefice and our three churches—for our future, for our next incumbent (whom God is calling), for our unity, and for how we can continue to support and encourage one another, and grow in mutual care and love.

If you are able to help, please contact Carolyn or Natalie directly.Thank you once again for your warmth, your presence, and your continued support for All Saints. The Cream Tea Dream Team [email protected]@gmail.comUKRAINE HUMANITARIAN AID AND VEHICLE DELIVERY MAY 2026It has sadly been a year since I was last able to report on a delivery to Ukraine, due to a dip in resources available to me (although other Ukraine aid has continued) but I was finally able to undertake a 15th trip in to Ukraine to deliver a donated van, full of humanitarian aid, to the front-line city of Kharkiv in the far east of the country, returning to Hadleigh on 12th May.

Much often changes in the period between trips and this was certainly the case in respect of the risks within a war zone. The widely reported massive rise in drone and missile attacks across the country that Ukrainians are withstanding means that no region is safe and risks nearer the front line are even more enhanced. Nevertheless, the van was safely delivered, despite its journey through Ternopil coinciding with a night of record attacks, the frequent disruption of GPS signal (for Satnav) as Shahed drones attacked overhead as I drove on, and the coincidence of an enemy missile being shot out of the skies above at the exact moment and location of vehicle handover, the immediate aftermath of the last, captured on video. Although I have previously heard explosions and artillery fire, this trip highlighted for me what Ukrainians, soldiers and civilians, are experiencing daily, now in to the fifth year, and somehow accommodating within the normal requirements and aspirations of everyday life, whilst I slip in and out of the country each time for only a matter of days. There is huge suffering that we naturally seek to avoid contemplating too much, but at least a little of the reality needs to be known, for the sake of understanding consequences and the impact of decisions made by countries, populations and ourselves, all interrelated now in this globalised world. Much of the harm done is evident simply in the physical destruction one sees, the ever growing memorials of lost loved ones and

the injuries now so commonly visible, but in personal encounters I hear of the intimate traumas and losses experienced; Igor the former farmer ( now soldier) who lost his farm and family living to the occupation of Russians, “Mitch” ( my soldier minder in Kharkiv) whose father was killed in the early days of the war and his brother “missing in action” for two years, both now long hard working soldiers for their country. Three severely injured soldiers, Johannes, Oleksandr and Mikhailo, I talkedwith in a hospital readily shared of their ordeals and recovering processes, Mikhailo wanting to stress he had not been “fighting” since 2014, but, “protecting” – which adds a valid emphasis of perspective in Ukraine defending its families and homeland against such wanton injustice. But, despite all, I was surprisingly encouraged more than expected by all my personal encounters. Yes, there is weariness and the cities and streets are not the packed busyness of peacetime, but there is such an awesome determination, courage and simple “grit” that I see amongst the soldiers, charity workers and civilians – a belief Ukraine will continue standing and overcome its powerful adversaries, a tireless, “get on and do” attitude, creative ingenuity which amazes, and ever the ready laugh at every opportunity! They are so very grateful to know and hear from me of the numerous “ordinary” folk that work with me to provide what we can. The youth too, are so inspiring. I met and found laughter with young waiters in a café, walked the streets of Kharkiv and found a school pupil group practicing their traditional end of school prom dance, in the park,

amidst an air raid, a very real and present threat in Kharkiv!.. it brings tears to recall this! Children still laugh and play on busses and in playgrounds. Soldiers and a family take a simple humour in wearing the England hats donated by Morrisons and squeezed in amongst the aid. A young man defiantly plays moving music in the sombre atmosphere of a railway station (stations and trains are targets of missiles). Classical music concerts, a circus and comedy theatre productions continue in Kyiv and other cities, although opera is sung in the basement of the Kharkiv Opera House.I am as always so grateful to the numerous people (equally British and Ukrainians) who have helped me in these ventures and so much so that a further trip can reasonably be anticipated before the end of summer. To name a few, (and ask forgiveness of the rest of you for the many acts of generosity, kindness and encouragement!); my family for bearing with me in this, Robert for the donated van, Tom for the electric wheelchair and other aid, Paul for a huge injection of fruitful energy in fundraising and other practical help, Biola and Magda for valuable medical aid, Philip for incredible 3D printing input!, Morrisons for continued aid, Women`s Institutes and Hadleigh Wife`s groups for beautiful knitwear and other, Svitlana for boxes of civilian aid, Natalie and All Saints Kesgrave, and with Olena, for their dauntless service and support of me. As well as the long support of Ipswich International Church members, I am grateful to St Mary`s and St Andrews. Wherever I go for Ukraine I am warmly

welcomed, cared for and overfed! My thanks particularly to Yaroslav, hosts in Kyiv, Kharkiv and to Maryna and Oleg in Poland. If you would like to support these ventures, please contact me direct or use the QR code for donations via the registered charity “British Ukrainian Aid” who administer funds on my “GoFundMe”. I can be available to give presentations to any group wishing to understand more and support this cause. 13F.I.G. FAMILY (Faith in God) SERVICES Every Third Sunday of the Month10:00 AM – Church HallFig Family celebrated the Feast of Pentecost slightly ahead of time, with the emphasis on Family. The Book of Acts tells us that the disciples were all together in one accord and they received the Holy Spirit together and separately:\" When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.\"The unity of the disciples attracted many who had come to celebrate the Passover in Jerusalem, and 3000 were added to their number that day. So Pentecost celebrates the Church family, as well as our own families. We had songs from the Smallbone family celebrated in the

biographical film the \"Unsung Hero\" : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Favk8UgilZI&list=RDFavk8UgilZI&start_radio=1and did a variety of crafts, illustrating the Holy Spirit as a dove and flames of fire. Our next Fig Family is on June 21st Fathers Day and the July FF will be on 19th JulyIn August we take a break, returning on September 20th Sally Wainman and Liz Wigby

JUNE/JULY 2026 GIVING“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work\"2 Corinthians 9 The seed of generosity is something that God can plant in our hearts, along with the opportunity to help it grow. So our understanding of giving and our attitude towards giving can change over time. Our church faces three major challenges this year: to keep the church going strongly whilst we prepare for a new incumbent; to pay the Parish Share which covers our contribution towards Ministry across the whole Diocese and to fundraise towards a new heating system. Please pray about your contribution towards this, reviewing your own needs and resources; please pray for the decisions needed. All forms of Giving are appreciated, but regular giving through the Parish Giving Scheme or a mix n' match approach is particularly valued as it helps us to plan ahead. Please remember our Legacy initiative too and the chance to Gift AidThank you to each and every person who contributes to keeping our church open!
