THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

“Come to me all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens
and I will give you rest” Matthew 11 v. 28

In July 2017 Chester Bennington, the lead singer of rock group Linkin
Park committed suicide, but before his death the band released a song
called “Heavy” describing a state of mind that many will be familiar
with.

These are some of the lyrics:-

I don’t like my mind right now, stacking up problems that are so
unnecessary, wish that I could slow things down, I wanna let go but
there’s comfort in the panic; and I drive myself crazy, thinking
everything’s about me, yeah I drive myself crazy, cos I can’t escape the
gravity. I’m holding on, why is everything so heavy, holding on, so
much more than I can carry.

The song itself received negative reviews from critics and yet thousands
of people have been helped by it, testifying that it actually helped them
step back from the brink because the words themselves showed people
that they were not alone in their desperation.

This may seem a strange start to Thought for the Day but as we
approach winter (burdened with doom-filled news on every media
outlet!) it’s more important than ever to offer up prayer in regards to our
mental and emotional health: holding on to prayers of thankfulness for
daily blessings, focusing on the specific rather than the general and
appreciating ‘family’ in whatever form that takes: those we meet up
with for a coffee, those who serve us in shops, petrol stations, etc, those
who help us to keep our homes going: plumbers, electricians. The body
of Christ isn’t just those we meet in church but the dozens and dozens of
people who make a difference to our lives.

When we respond to those words in the Gospel of St Matthew, Jesus
himself opens our eyes to avenues of help we may not have perceived,
as well as opportunities to carry a parcel or two for someone else!

Whatever your interest there is sure to be something for everybody. If
you don’t get too engrossed in your game there will also be tea, coffee

practical.

As the temperatures are expected to continue getting colder, please
remember we will still have the windows open to provide good
ventilation, so don't forget to add a few layers.

RIDE AND STRIDE
Ride and Stride - Little Bealings 5 Churches Walk
A big thanks to everyone who joined us on the walk and to our all of our
sponsors, we had a wonderful day and thanks to your help including
Gift-Aid we raised £341.25 for Suffolk Historic Churches Trust, beating
our target of £300!

Half of this amount Suffolk Historic Churches Trust will donate to Lit-
tle Bealings to help maintain our church whilst half goes to helping
churches across Suffolk. If you are on Facebook you can see some of
the pictures of the day https://www.face-
book.com/groups/337873547528977/ or by searching "Fynn Valley
Walks Group" under Facebook.
This is in addition to the funds raised by those supporting Rev. Robin
for the Kesgrave Four Churches Walk.

Many thanks again, John Wittgreffe and Francis Mutimer

Big, complex, old … just some of the words people use to describe the
Bible. Sound familiar? That’s where The Bible Course comes in. The
course will increase your confidence, equip you to read the Bible better
and help you to see its relevance to daily life. The course provides a
birds-eye view of the world’s bestselling book.

Over eight interactive sessions, it combines video teaching, group dis-
cussion, personal reflection and daily readings.

We would like to invite you to join us on Zoom to learn together, delve
deeper into understanding Scripture and to see how the books of the Bi-
ble are part of one big story.

those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life.
At All Saints Kesgrave, we recognise the significance of these Services

DO YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW NEED PRAYER?

If at any time you or someone you know are in need of prayer, we have
an active prayer ministry who would love to pray for you. We believe
that God answers all of our prayers, as he loves us dearly and knows
just what we need. We have seen God work in so many different ways
through the prayer ministry. Please do not hesitate to contact if you feel
this can help.

If your prayer request is urgent, contact our prayer chain by call-
ing John Wittgreffe on 07857 838678 or email ask.prayer-
[email protected] specifying "Prayer Chain".

If you have an ongoing request for prayer, each Wednesday a
prayer request email goes out to ministers and faithful people who
will include your request in their prayers on Wednesday, or as soon as
possible thereafter. If you would like your prayer included, please use
the same contact as above stating "For Wednesday prayers", or both
Wednesday Prayers and Prayer Chain if appropriate.

All information is considered private to those who take part in the pray-
ers. If, however, you feel something is very sensitive, please mention
this and we will make the prayers anonymous before they go out- God
still knows who you mean!

If you would like private prayer with a minister, you can request this
and we will work something out for you. If for any reason John is una-
vailable, please contact one of our ministry team as in our contacts list.

"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circum-
stances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." 1 Thessa-
lonians 5:16-18

THE ASK JOURNAL

The Benefice Zoom Pub Quiz!

I expect many of us are missing the longer, lighter evenings of Summer,
although I must admit it can be lovely and cosy in the Autumn and Win-
ter months, drawing the curtains early to shut out the elements, and set-
tling down for the night in the warmth of our homes. If you’re finding
yourself at a bit of a loose end on a Friday evening, having worked your
way through all episodes of ‘The Vicar of Dibley’ on BBC iPlayer, and
feel it’s still a bit early to start on the Christmas jigsaw, then why not
join us for one of our benefice Zoom quiz evenings?! Held monthly
from 7pm until 8.30pm, they provide a wonderful opportunity for mem-
bers of the congregation, their family and friends to join together virtu-
ally – with favourite drink and nibbles of course – and test skills of
knowledge and memory, all from the comfort of your own armchair!

“I really enjoy our quiz evenings” says vicar and quizmaster Robin Spit-
tle. “It’s not about which team wins, it’s the being together that’s im-
portant”. Church administrator and participant Natalie Lawrence
agrees. “As a family we thoroughly enjoy the quiz evenings. There is
something for everyone and the children especially have been thrilled to
contribute their answers in the past - the emoji ‘films’ picture round and
Disney round were particular favourites! It’s lovely to just spend time
together in good company, and there’s always plenty of laughter too!”

The remaining quiz evenings for this year are on Friday November 19th
and December 17th, 7pm – 8.30pm, and the Zoom link can be found on
our website and Facebook page. Do come and join us - you can be sure
of a very warm welcome!

NOVEMBER GIVING 2021:
November is a time of remembrance, fireworks and preparation for Ad-
vent. The Church of England Lectionary not only gives the daily read-
ings for worship but commemorates the different Saints Days and re-
membrance of many key figures: priests, bishops, mystics, teachers of
the faith, martyrs, hymnwriters and royal philanthropists. It’s a fascinat-
ing record of people who have done their best for their time.
Thank you to everyone who does their best for our church in our time: a
stunning amount of commitment, energy and faithfulness goes into
keeping a church alive.

All methods of Giving remain available, but the Church website has
been updated with two Donate Buttons: a Green button for General Giv-

ASK WEBSITE
Our church website www.askesgrave.org has been up and running for a
few months now, but remains an ongoing project, particularly during the
coming days and weeks in light of COVID-19 developments. We are
trying to regularly update notices and information as they become avail-
able, as well as adding items onto our pages on The Church of Eng-
land’s ‘A Church Near You’ site – https://www.achurchnear-
you.com/church/2061/
Available on both websites are the Rev Robin Spittle’s ‘Thought for the
Times’ videos, which can be accessed easily from the home pages. If
you are on Facebook, please like and follow us on our page – All Saints
Church Kesgrave
https://www.facebook.com/Askesgrave/
– where we will also upload important developments and information,
videos and ideas for prayer and worship.

KESGRAVE LIBRARY NEWS
– NOVEMBER 2021
Sunday Crafts – Sunday crafts (11.00 – 12.00 noon) have been reintro-
duced. Please ring us on 01473 626103 to book a space. In November
we are making:

Sunday 7th – Next Sunday is Remembrance Sunday. Pop along and cre-
ate a posy of poppies.

Sunday 14th – The leaves have all nearly blown away. Design an au-
tumn leaf picture.

Sunday 21st – Thursday 25th is Thanksgiving in America. Create a
doily turkey to displace.

Sunday 28th – It’s nearly December! Make a paper plate elf to begin
your Christmas decorations.

Activities are free. Parents must stay with under eights.

Covid -19 Self-Test (Rapid Antigen Tests) – Did you know that your
local library is a collection point for these tests? Please just pop along
and ask staff for however many boxes you or your family require.

Word Play Sessions – These sessions are being held at the Kesgrave
Community Centre on a Wednesday, with Tot Rock at 9.45 – 10.15 a.m.
and Baby Bounce at 10.45 – 11.15a.m. until Wednesday 17th November.
After this date, we are moving back into the library and the day will
revert to a Thursday. First session Thursday 25th November.
With the relaxation of covid restrictions, these sessions are no longer
bookable, but some guidelines do still apply. If you would like to attend,
please pop along.

Story Time –Story Time every Friday 9.45 – 10.15 a.m. This is now
being held in the library. Booking is no longer necessary – please pop
along – we look forward to seeing you.

Lego Club – Every Tuesday during term time from 3.30 p.m. – 4.30
p.m. Please phone us to book a place as numbers are currently limited,
I’m afraid.

Book Club – the library’s book clubs have returned. If you are inter-
ested in joining, please do give us a ring. We currently have an after-
noon and evening club. We hope to see you soon.

Facebook and Instagram- to keep up to date with all that is going on at
the library, please like and follow our Facebook page (Kesgrave Li-
brary) and our Instagram Account (@kesgravelibrary).

Scout Post Box – We are hoping to have the Scout Post Box this year
from Thursday 25th November – Tuesday 7th December.

Christmas Stall – sadly this year we do not have Cards for Good
Causes, as they have limited the number of sites offering their charity
cards this year.
We do have Suffolk Wildlife Fund, The Somersham Ward from Ipswich
Library and Suffolk Libraries Christmas Cards as well, as a selection of
festive wrapping paper, tags and gift bags on offer. Payment is cash or
card. All sales help to support your local library.
