Newsletter Issue No 102 - 25.06.23 July 2023

ALL SAINTS KESGRAVE NEWSLETTER ISSUE NO 102 – 25.06.23 July 2023 THOUGHT FOR THE DAY AN UNUSUAL ENCOUNTER We are now entering the holiday season, a time to relax and recharge our batteries, a time to relax after a long and busy year for many people. It can also be a time when many travel to far-off places or they just sit at home and unwind. Now that the period of lockdowns is nearly over, we can perhaps meet families and friends whom we have not been able to visit for a long time, it is also a time when we might make new friends in different parts of the country.

Looking at all that has happened in the church over the past weeks, we have just celebrated the resurrection and ascension of Jesus, and during that time there were many occasions when Jesus appeared to people, in fact, He was seen on as many as 500 different occasions. There was the time when Peter had been out all night fishing and came back exhausted despite not having caught anything and to be greeted by Jesus on the sea shore, and on another occasion He joined two people, walking along the Emmaus road, and their eyes were opened to who He was, to name just a few occasions. It was during His time on earth that there were occasions when people met with Jesus when they least expected to, for example, the story of the woman at the well in John 4, she went to collect water from the well at a time when she least expected to meet anybody because she was a Samaritan woman and they were not popular. It was at this time that Jesus was there and he asked her for a drink of water, while the disciples had gone off to get food and it was through that encounter with Jesus that her life was changed by what He told her. It is during these times of meeting people, maybe when we are on holiday, or in surroundings that are new to us, that we might meet up with an angel when we have least expected to, maybe they have even helped us in a difficult situation. So, as we prepare for our holiday this year let us expect to have a new encounter or even a change of direction in our lives at a time when we least expect it, for we never know when we will meet Jesus calling us. All ages are welcome. Please contact Gary Jones [email protected] or Anita Jones [email protected] to reserve your place. CHURCH HALL CAR PARK NOTICE From 31st JULY the church car park will be closed for two weeks for repair. We need to keep the car park clear of both cars and pedestrians because repairs involve machinery, hot tar, trip hazards like the kerbing etc; the accepted plan is to leave the whole area barriered and the public excluded until this repair work has been done. The congregation will still have access to the Fred Upson car park and can walk around on the Main Road. Access to the church itself is completely unrestricted. THOUGHT AND PRAYER FROM MARY The Bible talks about God forgiving our sins and remembering them no more (e.g. Hebrew 8.12 and 10.17, Isaiah 43.25) and Micha 7.19 even says they will be hurled into the depth of the sea. When you think that at

its deepest point the Pacific Ocean is an amazing 7 miles deep, that's a mind-blowing metaphor! If we genuinely confess our failures God will always forgive us. But sometimes we find it hard to forgive ourselves. To continue to condemn ourselves is not how God intends us to live. Prayer: Loving Lord and Saviour, we thank you that you will totally forgive us and not remember our sins. Please help us to believe this and to live in the freedom that your forgiveness brings. Amen. Mary Bendell SUFFOLK RIDE AND STRIDE FUNDRAISING DAY: SATURDAY 9TH SEPTEMBER 2023 Suffolk Historic Churches Trust (SHCT) 50th Anniversary 1973- 2023 Never joined in the fun of the annual church to church bike ride? Every second Saturday in September for 40 years, the Suffolk HistoricChurches Trust has been running its famous bike ride fundraiser - invented here in Suffolk & now copied all over England. These days, we call it Ride & Stride as some choose to walk. You might bike as a family, with friends or solo, finding companions along the way. Some set out from their front door, and some take their bikes to an area where they can enjoy quieter lanes. Some cyclists do twenty or thirty churches, but most of us settle for a relaxed ride between four and five. You will get a warm welcome in the churches and might be surprised by the fascinating social history you find in the churches you visit. All you need to do ahead of the day is plan a route and get friends and family to sponsor you either with a fixed sum or on a per Church basis. Your local bike ride organiser can give you a Sponsorship Form or go to our website: https://shct.org.uk/ride-and-stride/ Our cyclists are of all ages and come from every walk of life. Some are

regular churchgoers (of all denominations) & some not at all, but all are united in their love of those great churches that mark our Suffolk Skylines. In fact, with Norfolk we have the biggest concentration of medieval churches in Europe - over 500 in Suffolk alone. But these old buildings take money to keep up, and that is where you & the Suffolk Historic Churches Trust come in. Half of the money you raise will go straight to the church or chapel you nominate (regardless of where you choose to cycle) and half to the grants chest of the Trust to enable the Trust to help churches in their moments of need when the roof leaks or the masonry crumbles. It is our 50th in 2023, so we want to mark that anniversary with 500 new cyclists. Please be one! We would love to see you on September 9th 2023! PSALM 23 FOR LORRY DRIVERS The Lord is my SatNav, I shall not go astray. He helps me to choose the best routes, He guides me to my destination, He knows where I am. He leads me in the right paths for His name’s sake. Yea, though I ignore your suggestions or take wrong routes, You will neither get angry nor desert me, For you are always ready to guide me, Your screen and your words comfort me. Your recalculated routes get me back on track; As I follow your Word I will never be lost.

Surely truck stops and roadside services shall sustain me all of my journey; And I shall reach the driveway in the Lord’s Heavenly Kingdom. Where I shall park-up forever.
