MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Let me share a story. There was a child. He was very good at studies. One
day early in the morning, he woke up shivering with fever. When his
mother asked what had happened, what was he afraid of? He replied ,"I
had seen a big giant in my dream, he was very dangerous and was coming towards me. So I woke
up suddenly' Mama counseled him saying "Look my child ,it's dream, it's not a reality, there is
nothing to worry". Next morning again, the same thing happened, he saw the same giant, but
bigger in size than it was seen earlier. Mama counseled him again. Every day the child would
dream of the giant and every day mama would counsel him. The giant gradually increased in size
and the child began to lose his health. Also, he was depressed a lot. One day, his mother
consulted his father and decided on something. The next day, when the child told again that he
had seen the same giant in his dream ,his mother asked why he did not hit it? "The giant is so big,
how can I hit it", the child replied. Mother told, "Look son, the giant is so big that wherever you hit
you will not miss. It is very easy to aim at a bigger target'. The child became happy. That day he
went to bed early. Next day, with a happy mood he got up and told his mom "Mom, I have killed
the giant'.
What do we learn from this story?. Problems are problem, they are neither big nor small. It is our
own attitude, our vision how we look at it, determines whether the problem is big or small.
Do you know "All bird find shelter during a rain, but eagle avoids rain by flying above the cloud".
Problems are common, but attitude makes the difference.
In life we come across a number of situations where we find ourselves helpless due to a number
of problems before us. It depends on an individual how he/she looks at it. Whether he/she inflates
it or deflates it with positive thoughts, strong determination and increased self confidence

Wish everyone a great and splendid time of learning with PODAR.

Mr. S. N. Sahu
Principal

EDITORIAL

Change is an inexorable part of our life which is the medium of progress. Similarly, our thoughts
channelize the progress. Language expresses our thoughts which are then passed down into words &
sentences on paper to give them prominence. But somehow today digitalization has minimized the use
of paper & e-paper has been launched. Thoughts & expressions exchanged through internet & this
motivated us to present the account of the last year through an Zenith e-magazine. Though this is our
first attempt, we had already tried to express our literary skills through the e-newsletter and we are
highly proud to do so.
We are grateful to our beloved & respected Principal Mr. S..N. Sahu for inspiring & encouraging us.
We also pay our sincere thanks to our Vice Principal Mr.T.S. Raju who has provided us his valuable
support. I would also pay my gratitude to all the HODs, Coordinators, Teaching & Non-Teaching staff
who have supported us in our effort in some or the other way. Once again I am obliged to all as we
present the e-magazine for Podar International School & Jr. College, Satara.

REPORTS

Report – Primary Section (2015-16)
The Academic Year 2015-16 was indeed full of excitement as the
events year around brought a positive change in each child and helped
us to assess their capabilities.

There were 23 classes in primary section. The number of slow learners
were very high in the beginning. The concept of group learning with
slow learners made a radical change in the overall academic
performance. It was observed that motivation brought gradual reduction
in the number of slow learners. Weekly updation of the parents of slow
learners also helped us a lot. Each teacher adopted 4 slow learners to improve their scholastic as
well as non scholastic areas.

RESULT ANALYSIS
Question wise result analysis helped the teacher to identify the weak areas of each child.
Teachers worked very hard to increase their PPI.
REVEIW OF BOOK BY TEACHERS
It was made mandatory for every teacher to read at least one book and write review of the same.
This has really enhanced the vocabulary of the teacher.
ZERO PERIOD ACTIVITIES

1) REVIEW OF THE DAY-During zero period the student has to give a review of the entire
day. This helped the students to recall whatever was done in the class.

2) RECITATION OF TABLES- There was recitation of Tables for learning it thoroughly.

The decision of starting the new session in April was taken in January. I appreciate all my teachers
for their endless efforts to complete the portion in time. Teachers took ample of revision which was
reflected in the result.

The end of the academic year saw remarkable improvement in slow learners. Over all, the
academic year ended on a satisfactory note.

It is our endeavour to bring out the best in every child with the emphasis on all round development.
This is Just the Beginning.........

Thanking You,

Mrs. Medha Kulkarni,
Co-ordinator - Primary Section

Report – Middle Section (2015-16)
I, Mr.DilipKudale, Middle Section Coordinator, PIS Satara, presenting a report
of the academic year 2015-16. The academic session began on 16th June
2015. I had total 12 divisions under my section from class VI to Class VIII. In
the beginning of the session, we had organized a parent Orientation Program.

The teachers guided the parents regarding the studies of their wards.
Honorable Principal introduced the work profile to the Subject Teachers, Class Teachers,

Year Leaders and Coordinators. After a month’s observation, each teacher adopted 4 students
who needed help in academics. The First Cycle Test was conducted on 6th August 2015. After the
Result Analysis, the parents of slow learners were called and action plans were made consulting
with them. After these efforts, we could see the improvement in those students in Cycle Test 2.

In order to check the efficiency of the teachers in teaching, I observed their periods
regularly and instructed them accordingly. The worksheets and notebooks were checked regularly.
Special trainings were organized to enhance the skills of teachers. Subject Heads conducted the
Hub Meetings for their subjects. A Cancer Awareness Program was organized in the school.

Mr. Mohan Ray, a specialist in handwriting had conducted a “Handwriting Workshop” for the
improvement of our students’ handwriting. As a result of this workshop, we could see a great
change in our students’ handwriting. Mrs. Kala Mohan conducted two days workshop on “Soft
Skills and Classroom Management” which helped our teachers deal with the classroom issues.

According to the yearly plan, all the Academic assessments including FA-1, FA-2, SA-1,

Report – Department of English (2015-16)

A glance at the academic year 2015-16 fills us with immense pleasure and
satisfaction. It was an year of achievements. Our dedicated staff, with their unity,
could contribute much to PIS, Satara.
To create an English speaking atmosphere, the Department of English took initiative to arrange spoken
English Class series for the other language teachers , especially the teachers from Hindi & Marathi
department. The response was inexplicable. Every month, the teachers who are sincerely taking
efforts to improve their speaking skills are awarded with certificates and prizes by the Principal Mr. S.N
Sahu. The defaulters are fined impartially. This really improves the English speaking atmosphere. We
correct and encourage the students to converse in English. They are given star imprinted badges for
their efforts.
As the second stage of initiative, we are training our non teaching staff to communicate in English.
We are proud to know and proclaim that even they contribute to make this change happen. The efforts
shown by our peons to learn and speak in English really motivates us.
I conducted the meeting of Head boy and Girl and instructed them to encourage and help
other students to create an English speaking atmosphere.
Our News Letter helps all Podarites to know more about all the activities of PIS, Satara. This is also
a platform for our students as well as teachers to enhance their writing skills.
Formal Department meetings are conducted as per the requirement. Many of our Department
meetings are informal. We help each other to create an atmosphere of understanding. Continuous
communication helps us to go forward with great zeal than formal meetings. We ensure that the
portions are completed and proper revision is taken before exams. We go for the so called extra mile to
execute our plans.
I believe in planning and maximum service. I’m proud of all the members of English
Department who works as a team. This team work and mutual understanding is the key to our success.
The guidance of the Principal and the Vice Principal throughout the year was our great strength.

Report – Art Department (2015-16)

School is an institution where each and every child’s life is moulded
into a bright future by the development of his/her personality. Podar
International School, Satara is also such a temple where all children’s creativity
is enriched through art & craft and drawing.
Many activities in this field have been taken by our school from time to time. This year we had
Diwali Greeting Card making Activity and it had been sold to help the drought affected people.
We are elated that we could collect around 10000 rupees by this activity . Our art teacher Mr.
Pradip Khirsagar has drawn a rangoli for the same event .
Our students have participated in different competitions such as Sakal Balmitra Drawing
Competition, Satara Police – RTO organized drawing competition etc. We had secured 100%
result in the Government Drawing Grade Examination (intermediate) in the year 2015. This year,
94 students have appeared for the drawing grade exam. This obviously boosts over all creativity
and personality of the child which leads to all round development of the child.
One great artist, Vincet Van Gogh had stated about art:

“I dream my paintings and then paint my dreams.”
In the same way, we hope that Podarites dream on…..and fulfill their dreams.
