CLUB HEAL PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS

“Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love.
It will not lead you astray.”- Rumi

The COVID-19 pandemic proved to be a marathon for many,
including the Club HEAL family. With the ever-evolving
restrictions on gatherings, most activities had to remain online,
and if not, with strict limitations on the number of participants
allowed at any one time.

Nevertheless, the Club HEALers soldiered on. Be it the
counselling sessions by our COMIT case workers and madrasah
counsellors; the caregiver and peer support group sessions; the
Dementia Wellness Programme, the Rehabilitation programmes
such as Day Rehab, Our Healing Voice and Back-to-Work
initiative; the outreach to the general public by our CREST
team; the public health talks and trainings that were conducted,
our staff and volunteers put forward their best effort for both
online and physical activities. Everyone was driven by their
passion and commitment to serve.

There were many firsts. For the first time, the Agency for
Integrated Care (AIC), Health Promotion Board (HPB) and
PERGAS engaged Club HEAL to conduct a series of mental
health talks for various organisations.

PAGE 06

CLUB HEAL PRESIDENT'S ADDRESS

The team from the CREST Caregiver Support Network (CSN) commenced their
work reaching out to caregivers nation-wide. A poetry event “Letters In My
Head” was held to mark World Mental Health Day 2021. Hosted by our staff
Yohanna Abdullah, it was a wonderful afternoon of poetry by the peers and
our guest poets, Humairah Jamil and Christopher Le Pard.

We ushered in Chinese New Year 2022 with the wonderful effort at fundraising
by our Comms team through “Tiffins of Love and Blessings” – a charity sale of
baked goods. It not only helped to raise funds for Club HEAL, it also brought
our staff and volunteers together over a weekend in January as they bond
together through the baking and packing of delectable cookies and cakes, and
delivering to our supporters all over Singapore.

We are honoured to be among the four organisations selected by the
President’s Challenge committee to partner the Institute of Mental Health (IMH)
in a comprehensive programme supporting youth mental health. The financial
year ended on a positive note when the #OneOfUs campaign - with the aims
of creating mental health awareness and to reduce the stigma, raised the
$50,000 target amount set by our generous donor who matched it with
another $50,000.

Our gratitude goes to our wonderful donors and volunteers, and most
significantly to the peers who selflessly and courageously shared their journeys
of healing and recovery with the public.

LAUNCH OF CREST CAREGIVER SUPPORT
NETWORK

The CREST Caregiver Support Network (CSN)
was launched in April 2021 to support and
connect caregivers who are taking care of
people with mental health challenges and
seniors with dementia.

The objectives of the programme are to
provide networking opportunities for
caregivers, strengthen the relationships of
caregivers to empower and help one another,
increase public awareness of caregivers’
burnout, promote recognition of early signs and
symptoms of mental health conditions, provide
emotional support and have access to mental
health and caregiving resources, as well as link
caregivers to relevant agencies for further
assistance.

OUR HEALING VOICE
GRADUATION 2021

Eighteen participants graduated from Our HEALing Voice (OHV) programme in 2021.
Ms Seah Yang Hee, Deputy CEO of NCSS was the Guest-of-Honour for the graduation
event on 29 January 2022.

The participants showed dedication and commendable effort throughout the five-
month programme. With their commitment and positive outlook, they provided much
inspiration and motivation to their peers.

PAGE 17

Day Rehabilitation and Recovery Programme
Under Club HEAL's rehabilitation programme, our clients work towards
their full potential by learning coping strategies to better manage
setbacks in life. They regain their self-confidence, build their self-
esteem and resilience through exercises, therapeutic art activities
(such as pottery and crafts), poetry, cooking, baking, and motivational
talks, all conducted in a safe and supportive environment.

COMIT Programme
The Community Intervention Team (COMIT) provides assessment,
counselling, therapy, case management and psychoeducation support
for clients with mental health issues and seniors with dementia. COMIT
works closely with community partners such as hospitals, polyclinics
general practitioners, and other service providers to provide holistic
care to clients and support for their families.

CREST Programme
The Community Outreach Team (CREST) focuses on raising public
awareness of mental health conditions and dementia, promotes early
recognition of at-risk individuals, provides emotional support to
individuals and their caregivers and links individuals to relevant health
and social care services when necessary.

Vocational Rehabilitation
Our clients are taught vocational skills such as creating handicrafts
which are sold at our pushcart and other platforms. Other skills include
housekeeping, in which selected clients are reimbursed for the general
upkeep of our centres. Our clients are encouraged to build their social
and communication skills and provided with opportunities to interact
with the public through the poushcart initiative at IMH orat pop-up
booths during events.

Our Healing Voice (OHV) Programme
The OHV programme is co-produced with NCSS and funded by
Community Chest, NCSS. Started in 2018, participants gather every
Saturday morning for workshops conducted by trained staff for
knowledge learning and sharing.

This programme has helped empower many peers by providing a
structured platform to learn skills, leverage on their lived experience
as people in recovery from mental health challenges to share their
stories, and gain experience in being a peer mentor to other Club
HEAL clients.

PAGE 18

Our Healing Voice (OHV) Programme (con't)
Many of our OHV participants also signed up for the NCSS' Peer
Support Specialist programme to further their learning in Mental
Health Recovery and Advocacy. Several joined Club HEAL as full-
time staff so they can leverage on their lived experience to assist
others in their mental health journey.

With our strong alumni from these past four cohorts, we aim to
build a Peer Network that can support us in advocacy and further
our cause such as sharing their recovery stories with the media as
part of public education on mental health and also to lead Club
HEAL's rehab events and programmes.

Dementia Wellness Programme (DWP)
DWP aims to provide a safe space to engage our senior clients
holistically and meaningfully. We tap on their strengths and avail
them opportunities to learn new skills while providing social support
to them and their caregivers. We ensure that their overall well-
being is addressed so that they can age gracefully in the
community.

Activities are conducted in DWP to meet their physical, cognitive,
psycho-social, emotional and spiritual needs.

CREST Caregiver Support Network (CSN)
The CREST CSN focuses on caregivers who have or are at risk of
developing depression, anxiety and burn-out due to their
caregiving role. The team aims to increase public awareness of
caregiving concerns, promote the identification of caregiver needs,
supports caregivers in self-care and links them to essential services
where needed.

Madrasah Counselling
Funded by MUIS, our madrasah counsellors provide counselling and
case work services to students at all six full-time madrasahs in
Singapore, as well as conduct mental health talks and training for
the teachers and parents.

PAGE 19

IMH Youth Programme (President’s Challenge)
Club HEAL was one of the four social service agencies appointed to be part of
SYiNC, a pilot project by the President’s Challenge and the Institute of Mental
Health (IMH) to boost community-based support for youths with mental health
conditions. Launched on 15 March 2022, the SSAs under this programme will be
trained by IMH to provide intervention and psych-social support to youths between
the ages of 13 and 19 years old with mild to moderate conditions such as stress-
related disorders, depression, addictions and self-harm behaviour.

Community Outreach and Training
Club HEAL conducts regular public tal
ks and training as part of our public
education effort to reach out to the community to educate and start conversations
on mental health and wellness.

We run Healing Friends Training (HFT) course to train and equip volunteers with the
necessary skills to build therapeutic relationship with our Club HEAL's clients. These
sessions provide the volunteers with essential mental health information so that they
are equipped with the knowledge to contribute in a confident and safe manner.

We also work with other community partners and corporate clients to conduct
mental health training for their staff and members of the public.

Back-to-Work Programme
The Back-to-Work programme prepares our clients to return to the workforce,
allowing them to put their skills and capab
ilities into practice to earn an income for
themselves.

Under the guidance and supervision of our Employment Support Officers (ESO), our
clients go through 12 weekly training sessions covering topics such as
communication at the workplace, problem-solving skills and resume writing. This is
followed by an in-house practicum segment where they take on the role of
customer service representatives at our pushcart which is a pop-up retail stall
selling crafts handmade by our clients or as administrative support. The clients will
be matched to suitable jobs outside of Club HEAL where our ESOs will continue to
support them for up to six months once they are employed.

Our fundraising activities for FY2021/2022:

#OneOfUs
The #OneOfUs campaign was held from January to March 2022 to
alleviate the stigma associated with mental illness while raising a target of
$100,000 for Club HEAL. The impactful campaign on social media
culminated in a fun online event called Sing Against Stigma Finale with

performances and personal sharing by campaign ambassadors, guest
artistes, and those who joined the open-mic segment.

“Tiffins of Love and Blessings”
Club HEAL’s Charity Bake Sale 2022 took on the concept of “Tiffins of Love
and Blessings” in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration. A
total of 158 tiffin sets were snapped up by individual and corporate donors.
Three sets - Happiness, Prosperity, and Longevity - made colourful and
delicious festive gifts and were well received by the recipients.

Our fundraising activities for FY2021/2022:

"Gifts that HEAL” Ramadhan 2021 Campaign

“Gifts that HEAL” was the theme for the Ramadhan 2021 campaign aimed
at raising funds to ensure the continuity in the running of Club HEAL’s
programmes and activities.

Three of our staff shared how Club HEAL provides a kind and loving
community that has supported their growth as staff and peers in recovery.
The campaign which the tagline ‘This Ramadhan – Let us race to win HIS
Grace’ was well-received.

PAGE 23

Our fundraising activities for FY2021/2022:

#BlessedFriday

Spreading the love on Fridays and multiplying the joy of people in recovery
– that was the message relayed in our #BlessedFriday campaign. Through
our social media platforms, we encouraged the public to help people
facing mental health challenges to regain the means to achieve their
potentials.

The campaign which featured staff and volunteers who are in recovery also
promoted Club HEAL’s mission to build an informed and inclusive society
free of the stigma against mental illness. It also showcased some of our
Rehab activities such as pottery, crochet and cooking.

"Chasing Normal"

“Chasing Normal” was a fundraising effort that urged the public to show
their love and support for individuals battling mental illness. They could do
this by normalising conversations about mental health and thus reducing the
stigma surrounding it. Donors to this campaign at giving.sg were rewarded
with freshly baked Hot Cross Buns.

PAGE 24

Continuous Improvement of Programmes
In the light of our ageing population, some of whom are at risk of becoming isolated
and developing poor mental health as well as the rise in mental health challenges
among our youths, we plan to curate programmes that bring together youths and
elderly that would benefit both age groups.

Outreach and Fundraising
We plan to shift our focus from the Malay-Muslim community and reach out to all
ethnic groups in Singapore to benefit from as well as lend their support to our mission
and vision through various platforms including social media.

We would like to create more opportunities for interactions with the public and
showcase our work to potential supporters by opening our centre/s on some
Saturdays.

We aim to further develop meaningful collaborations with potential partners to reach
out to the underprivileged and in going green.

Human Resources
We will develop a training framework to build staff’s capabilities and skills to meet the
changing needs and expectations of our service users, especially with the increase in
the demand for mental health services.

We also plan to create an employee welfare programme to enhance the emotional,
mental and physical wellbeing of our staff. The evolving demographic of our staff
makes it essential to create effective health and wellbeing initiatives to safeguard
their health and prevent burnout.
