Dual-Homing Optical Protection Module

Function PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Enhance network/equipment The APS4304 is an all-optical protection module providing dual-homing bi-
availability through fast all- directional (fiber-pair) protection. APS4304 enables remote monitoring of both
optical protection switching. Working and Protection links and is a 1-slot width plug-in module for the
LighLEADER-4000 Platform.
Applications
Principle of Operation
Dual-Homing Protection
Distributed Dual-Homing APS4304 support of bi-directional protection can be applied in various
Protection applications; best fitted to Dual Homing Protection (DHP) or Distributed Dual
Dual-Ended Bi-directional Homing Protection (DDHP) applications. In DHP applications the APS4304 is used
Protection over MPLS Network to switch a client from a Primary (Main) “home” (e.g., IP/Ethernet core-switch or
a radio node) to a Secondary (Backup) "home", upon a failure in the Primary
Features “home” or in the links connected to it. APS 4304 enables remote monitoring of
both Working and Protection and when used in conjunction with APS4302 it
Programmable thresholds support remote failure detection on the Outbound Working and Protection fibers.
Two threshold levels In DDHP Protection applications, multiple, geographically dispersed APS4304 are
logically grouped together to perform aggregated (synchronized) switching upon
User selected revert modes: detecting a failure in at least one of group member. The synchronization logic is

LightLEADER platforms APS4304 offers a specific order option (APS4304v) designed to address cases
were the optical power level of the Backup core outbound must be controlled.

Operator Switching Commands

APS4304 support manual operations (operator switching commands).

Operator Programmable Thresholds

APS4304 supports two optical power threshold levels that are user
programmable. One threshold is used for SD (Signal Degraded) alarm while the
lower threshold level is used for LOS (Loss Of Signal) alarm and switchover
triggering.

failure LightLEADER-4000 is a modular, carrier-class optical protection platform,
designed to handle all the network protection needs of carriers and large
Options enterprises. This versatile NEBS/ETSI compliant add-on platform features
redundant AC or DC power supplies, a management/control module and an
APS4304v- programmable array of optical plug-in modules supporting wide spectrum of high-availability
optical power level control of applications such as: wavelength service protection, DWDM link (trunk)
outbound Backup core protection, equipment protection, Local and distributed Protection Aggregation
Client Tx power monitoring and dual homing protection. The LightLEADER-4000 is managed via CLI or
(OPM) SNMP protocols. SNMP based EMS (LynxVISION) is also offered. The platform is
offered in either a 1U, 6 slots chassis (support up to 4 protection modules) or in
a 2U, 12 slots chassis (support up to 10 protection modules). For some
applications a 3U chassis configuration, is also offered.
