THEME: GREENING THE BLUE
Think Green ……. Go Green……. goes a quote on saving our environment.
“Greening the Blue”, the theme for the Environment Day celebrations at Daffodils English
School was precisely in line with the above.
It was a day much looked forward to by the students. Various competitions were organized
for students from Grades 1 to 10 at school. While the younger students had colouring,
drawing and greeting card making under the banner, “Life on Earth”, the students of
Grades 4 and 5 tried their hands at creating crafts by making best use of waste.
The competitions for the senior wing students included poster making, slogan writing,
face painting, versification of poetry and extempore speaking. Each competition was well
organized, accomplished and judged for its aptness, creativity and presentation.
Students and teachers eagerly participated in creating harmony with nature and brought
life into the competitions. Saving water, planting trees, following the 4 R’s were some of
the areas touched upon by the students in their exhibitions. The aim was to create
awareness about our environment and sensitizing the younger generation towards the
need and urgency to protect it.
The Ice Breaker session for the new students for the academic year 2019-20 was conducted
on Friday, the 14th June 2019.
There were 23 new students across Grades 1 to 5. The program went off very well with
children showcasing their various talents, such as sloka and rhyme recitation, narrating
stories, singing and dancing.
It was a treat to see the little ones performing on the stage. It was a formal programme
where the children were trained efficiently by the teachers to man the entire show. The
M.C carried out the programme very well. The welcome speech and vote of thanks were
given by the students of Grade 5.
Post the program, as a reward, all the participants were given smiley badges which made
them very happy.
International Yoga Day…
International Yoga Day is celebrated on the 21st of June each year. It was our Prime
Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi who gave the proposal to observe this day as International
Yoga Day. Practicing yoga is one of the ways to grow into a better human being with a
sharp mind, a good heart and a relaxed soul.
Yoga is known for its amazing health benefits. International Yoga Day, celebrated on the
21st of June each year ever since its inception in 2015, is a great effort to emphasize the
importance of inculcating this ancient Indian art in our lives.
The Induction ceremony, the most important juncture for the Scouts & Guides,
Cubs and Bulbuls was organised on 20th June 2019 at Daffodils English School
Auditorium. The programme started with lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest, our
dear Secretary, Mrs. Madhuri Chengappa. This was followed by an invocation song and
the prayer. A small cultural programme was organised by the Scouts, Guides, Cubs and
Bulbuls. The actual show stealer was the presentation ceremony wherein our Chief Guest
presented the scarves and badges to the new entrants. The recruits took the oath by
casting their hand prints on the chart which depicted a tree which was symbolic of the
spirit of service. The event culminated with the Chief Guest addressing the recruits with
an inspirational message.
You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great"
- Zig Ziglar
Students of Grade 1 were given iPads to explore more on learning. They know the fact that
iPads too are machines and were excited to learn and explore many apps like colouring,
games etc.
Students were overwhelmed with the technological approach which happened in their
classrooms. They enjoyed the iPad time in the class and looked so comfortable, connected
and so closely associated with technology.
“Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardour and attended to
with diligence.”
Yet another session, with Computer Masti (fun), the little ones from Grade 1 took a stroll
to the near-by park to explore and identify the differences between human made things
and natural things as a part of learning the concept "Computer - A Machine"
Children were highly excited and were seen naming things they found around while they
walked.
The students of Grade 6 ‘A’ had a fun and informative session on the topic ‘Is seeing
believing?’. As a part of the Digital Citizenship programme, we helped students recognise
that photos and videos can be altered digitally. Activities were conducted to identify
different reasons why someone might alter a photo or video. Students analysed altered
photos and videos and tried to determine and debate the reason why…
