Independence Day Celebration:
On the 72nd Independence Day, the school was well decorated in saffron, white and green. The chief guest for the
day was Wing Commander Bhagyashree Shirodkar, of the Indian Air Force. The celebration began with the flag
hoisting and the march past, as the students synchronised their marching to the brass ensemble and held the flag
high in the air. It invoked immense patriotism and pride in our hearts. To add to this resonance of nationalism, the
light music club performed a melodious blend of various patriotic songs which elicited a sense of harmony,
fraternity and love for India. This was followed by the prize distribution ceremony where the academic award
winners and the all-rounders were felicitated.
To bring more life to the celebration, students performed an energetic dance; the field reverberated with enthusiasm
of their movements. Rani Lakshmi Bai’s struggles and endeavours were brought to life in the form of a skit which
took the spectators to the period of British Raj. The celebrations concluded with the inspiring words of the Chief
Guest emphasising on the role of the next generation, of being responsible citizens and upholding our nation’s glory.
Teachers’ Day Celebration:
Teachers Day was celebrated for three consecutive days, wherein during the morning assembly children from each
class, right from first to tenth put up a beautiful and colourful show through which they conveyed their gratitude and
love to all the teachers. On the same occasion teachers were felicitated for their commendable service to the
institution.
Achievers’ Hub:
A dream becomes a goal when action is taken towards it. Taking the students of Class X (ICSE) closer to making
their goal of achieving better grades a reality is Achievers’ Hub. The fourth and revised edition of this book was
released by Miss Dishita Naveen of Class X (ICSE – 2019 Batch), who was randomly picked by the Random Name
Selector app in the morning assembly on 29 October, 2018 at Daffodils English School. The Secretary, Principal,
Headmaster and Vice Principal of the school each received a copy of the same.
Achievers’ Hub, the result of tremendous dedication and efforts put forth by Mr. Narasimha Murthy H. K.,
Computer Applications Teacher and Head – ICT Department of Daffodils English School consists of a compilation
of the question papers alongside solutions of Computer Applications from previous years’ Board Examinations.

than average. The Republic Day celebrations were followed by the instillation of the new student leaders for the

Mr. BS Vijayakumar.
The students were waiting with great anticipation for the announcement of the new leaders and their respective
house mistresses. This was followed by the reading of the holy scriptures. The gathering was then addressed by the
Headmaster. With utmost zest for their new found roles, the newly elected leaders led by the Headmaster, proceeded
with the solemn lighting of the lamp. The newly elected student council was administered the oath by the ICT Head,
Mr Narasimha Murthy. The new student council was made to sign the register with a reminder of the rules and
regulations to abide by. The outgoing head girl, Aditi Shetty’s impactful and moving speech touched everyone’s
heart. The day ended with the dispersal command by the new head girl and head boy. To see the secret recipe of their
success, watch this space...

IGNITE 2019
IGNITE 2019 was a group discussion held for the class 9 students conducted by the Geography Department of
Daffodils English School to help students voice their thoughts and enhance their knowledge on the subject.
This session encouraged us to question our counterparts on various topics related to natural phenomena occurring on
planet Earth. Answers and discussions covered various topics and in the process, many new concepts and theories
relating to the subject was learnt.
The students who participated came prepared with the concept they would present. Topics like black holes, oceans,
underground water, tectonic plates, topics relating to space and other individual topics were the most popular ones.
The inputs given by the CEO helped the students in understanding complex topics. The Secretary of our school
appreciated us for our participation and presentation. This session also helped most of us overcome stage fear and
express our thoughts confidently.
Thus, I would like to thank the dignitaries who encouraged us with their presence, our Geography teacher Mrs. Ronita
for her unstinted support and guidance, the teachers who were a part of the event and the active participants who
kindled our thought process, making IGNITE 2019 a successful one.

CCA General Report
Co-curricular activities (CCA) refer to programs and learning experiences that complement to students‘
academic learning at school. Co-curricular activities facilitate in the development of various domains of mind and
personality such as intellectual, emotional social, moral and aesthetic development. Creativity, enthusiasm and
positive thinking are some of the other facets of personality development and the outcomes of these activities.
Daffodils English School has always encouraged and reinforced the importance of holistic development of
every student entering the portals of the institution. Hence CCA has been introduced and is a part of the curriculum
for students from classes III up to IX.
Students were offered a repertoire of activities ranging from fine arts to sports to learning foreign languages or
being a part of the scouts and guides movement to choose from as a part of CCA at Daffodils English School.
Students from classes III to V had two block periods (1 1/2 hours) every Thursday whereas students from classes VI
to IX had two block periods every Tuesday and Thursday to pursue their activity of interest.
Following were the list of activities offered:
Dance forms - Western and Indian Classical
Musical Instruments - Keyboard, Guitar
Other Creative Arts - Western music, Dramatics, School Band, Arts and Crafts
Learning Foreign languages - French, German
Sports - Table Tennis, Skating, Chess, Throw ball, Volley ball, Archery, Badminton, Basket ball, Hockey, Football,
Cricket
Martial Arts - Karate, Taekwondo
Literature - Literary Club, Handwriting Analysis
Other- Scouts/Guides, Cubs/Bulbuls
Each activity was specifically conducted by an expert coach/teacher/instructor appointed solely for the
purpose. An associate teacher from the school accompanied the students in each activity with a view of maintaining
discipline and keeping the safety and security of the students in picture.
While the students of western dance club battled in a dance battle against each other to prove to be the better
one, the students of guitar club plucked the strings to the tunes of “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” amongst other
numbers. Students at skating learnt all about bento, double push and drafting. Back hand, forehand strokes along
with shadow practice were mastered by the students at badminton. Students from the clubs were chosen to represent
the school at various inter-school events to further encourage them.
Students of the cubs and bulbuls activity participated in fireless cooking, learnt first aid techniques and
undertook a camp to Tritiya Charan, Doddaballapur. Students were graded towards the end of the year for the CCA
by their instructors depending upon the progress exhibited. Rightly quoted by the Mahatma, “By education, I mean
an all-round drawing out of the best in child and man-body, mind and spirit.”, this definitely is what CCA is about, at
Daffodils.

In conversation with the CEO
An interview was conducted on 28 November 2018 by the students of the Literary club, Achyuthan and Vidush of grade
IX, as an assignment and to get to know their CEO Mr. Chinnappa A.P. better.
Q What is more important to you: success, service or spirituality? Why?
A: Spirituality. Instead of ancients stories about angels and Gods, spirituality encourages you to make your own path
and create your own stories. This sets you on a journey of enlightenment and self-discovery to which the only limits can
be set by yourself. A spiritually inclined mind kills negativity and when someone is positively charged, service will be
aimed towards doing good and success will
automatically follow.
Q. Why do you say that spirituality keeps your
mind positive? Has spirituality increased in
recent times?
A: Spirituality is recognizing that you are more
than just a body, but a soul with infinite potential.
It lets you discover things on your own and this
discovery helps you channelize your thoughts
positively. Spirituality doesn’t necessarily lead
you in one direction, but all the various ideas that
it gives you can help you choose the righteous
path. Each person has the potential to be
spiritually inclined and this is proof that
spiritualism has always existed. In recent times,
spirituality is being used by some people to misguide others.
Q. Sir, what is your view on the freedom of speech and how some people are using this to speak against the
nation?
A: We all have the freedom of expression, thought and speech. But the most important things to consider before
exercising your rights are the context and the audience. Yes, people are misusing this freedom and are trying to plant
seeds of hatred and negativity amongst us. Do not impose your thoughts or opinions on others but use your rights to
help people make informed decisions. A true patriot never speaks against his motherland.
Q. There was a debate recently about standing during the national anthem in theatres and some thought it was
fashionable to say: “My rebellion is that I will not stand during the national anthem.”What is your view?
A: Our National Anthem is a part of our value system. It was adopted by our founding fathers and accepted by all. It has
also been recognized as one of the best anthems. Every citizen should sing it from their hearts. Debating on standing for
it in theatres according to me is a waste of time. There are more serious issues to be debated upon.
62
Q. If you could ask one question to a person dead or alive, what would the question be and who would that
person be?
A: I would like to meet all religious leaders, dead or alive and ask them to prove that each one has his or her own
God, who is superior than the others, as against the universal belief that all Gods are one. My belief is that, while
religion separates people, spirituality unites them.
Q. What is required to live a balanced life?
A: Three things - One is finding the right balance between professional and personal life. Secondly always remain
neutral to any issues at hand-it will help you take the best decision. Third thing is health. Make sure that whatever
happens, find time to exercise. There is no better substitute in life to good health.
Q. If you find a way to travel through time where would you be?
A: I would like to travel back to the past and be a part of the Independence Movement. That is when I think true
patriotism was alive. I would like to see how our country took shape post freedom to understand it better than
what we have been told in our History text books.
Q. Where do you see Daffodils in ten years from now?
A: I would like to see more pictures of our achievers in the papers. Our students should win more prizes in
various arts as well as academics. I dream of Daffodils having world class sports infrastructure. Our students
should have more exposure to physical and spiritual activities. After we introduced hiking, our students developed
a stronger and positive attitude towards everything.
Q. What is more important: Doing what you love or love what you are doing? Why?
A: Both are equally important for me. Probably where I am right now professionally is the reason for my answer.
I am not here by choice, I was brought in here. Initially I was not sure if I should be in an educational scenario
because I had been in sales and marketing. But, then you need to enjoy what you are doing, it should not be
forced upon you. I have come to love what I do.
63
Q. How would you like to redesign the DES classrooms?
A. Class rooms of the future should not have walls dividing them. They should have large open spaces which foster
learning across subjects and disciplines without having to divide children by their age groups. Such classrooms
will bring together multiple facilitators who engage children in the self-learning process as per their aptitudes and
interests.
Q. How would you like to describe the teachers in Daffodils?
A. We have a team of committed and focused professionals working with us. They are not just equipped with various
educational qualifications but are here because of their love for the profession and the kids they interact with. As the
children spend most of their productive time at school our teachers are taking on roles of mothers away from home.
No prescribed degree can beat the quality of learning environment that is a part of the Daffodils’ rubric.
Q. Is there a message you would to pass on to the students?
A. Childhood is but a small phase of your lives. All of us adults miss our childhood days terribly. My advice to all
you kids is to enjoy your time in school and to love your parents unconditionally and to spend as much time as
possible with them. As you grow older you will have less time for the finer things in life-family, friends and
leisure. Make the most of the things around you and enjoy being a child. Soon you will all be adults and things
will get more complex and your lives will get very busy. I’m sure you will all come back to us saying how much
you miss school then.
