Ujjivana Club-My Voyage

“Today is the perfect opportunity to start building the tomorrow you want.”

Yes, very true to its words, every single day that we encounter, we have something new to learn which adds
up to building our tomorrow. We, at Daffodils Foundation for Learning, are precisely working towards
building a confident tomorrow for our students.
As a part of the realisation of this dream, clubs were initiated by our Principal, Dr. Sujatha Girish, who
leaves no stone unturned when it comes to furnishing a bright future to the learners at DFL. One such club is
our ‘UJJIVANA CLUB’, that has taken a very good shape. The objectives of the club were very distinctive
such as inviting guest speakers to kindle the curiosity of the young minds, motivational talks to inspire and
make them feel more humane- need of the hour, quizzing programs, fun activities, skits, etc.
I, Mrs. Saroja Srinivas, was indeed privileged to be chosen as the club in-charge along with Mrs. Meenakshi
and Ms. Rebecca, who have been involving themselves in creating the best experiences for the students. An
extensive planning of the activities to be conducted ensued keeping the objectives of the club on priority.
A thumbs up from our Principal gave us the boost that was entailed for commencement of the club. Our
team, with great fervour, inaugurated the club on 20 June, 2019. Truly, the day has not erased off my
memory, yet. Till date, we have been successful in inviting speakers from divergent fields, to quote a few-
Mrs. Radha Nagarajan (counsellor), Mr. Srinivas (cartoonist), Mr. Vijay Kumar (Headmaster, DES, and
Kannada litterateur) and Mr. Shankar Bhat (advocate), to brainstorm the learning minds.
Added to this, many activities, such as talk on ‘Green Circle’ to create awareness about environment, inter-
action about the ‘Red Cross Society’, its inception and functioning coupled with demonstration, quiz, moti-
vational videos, poster making on saving environment, skit on ‘Communal Harmony’, were held. The stu-
dents made their share of contribution as well, in the form of creating a ‘LOGO’ for the club. They were al-
ways on their toes to participate in quizzes, showcase their creativity and so on.
I must admit, working with an ever encouraging Principal, who always sets standards, efficient team mem-
bers and inquisitive learners, ‘my voyage’ has been smooth and enriching. The zeal to contribute towards
making the club the best in all its endeavours, does not end here but continues to hunt for more opportuni-
ties.

Joy Of Sharing

Joy of Sharing event was celebr ated by DFL on 6th of July, 2019. The students, parents and the staff dis-
played their sense of generosity and sharing by participating whole heartedly in this noble endeavor of DFL.
The inauguration of the event was done by Mrs. Madhuri Chengappa, the secretary and Mr. Chengappa, the
advisor. Stalls of nail art, tattooing, plants, games counter, food court and pot painting did a brisk business.
Over all, there was a great response from the parents for this noble cause. The
amount collected by the celebration was donated to an orphanage.

Inter-house Dance Competition

Daffodils Foundation for Learning celebrated the Teachers’ Day in a unique way.
The school held inter-house dance competition on that day. The theme chosen was ‘Mythology’ and the
stage came alive with the mesmerizing performances of the students of the four houses— Akash, Prithvi,
Sagarika, and Tejas.
The atmosphere reverberated with the rousing music, rhythmic steps to the accompaniment of the ankle
bells, excitement of the children and the spectators alike and, of course, the eagerness of the students to
make the day special for their beloved teachers.
Dashavatara, the various forms of Lord Vishnu, was portrayed beautifully by the students of Akash House.
The life of Lord Krishna with the Kalingamardana as the highlight of the performance was striking in its
execution by Tejas House. The transformation of Yogi Shiva to the father of Lord Ganesha was integrated
seamlessly by Sagarika House. The abduction of Sita and the resulting Ramayana War was showcased
brilliantly by the young dancers of Prithvi House.
The dignitaries enjoyed the performances and the teachers were overjoyed at this
display of talent.

Symphony

“The aim of education is the knowledge, not of facts, but of values”

Symphony, an inter esting CCA event, was held at Daffodils Foundation for Lear ning for all gr ades
from 1 through 9 on 01 and 06 August 2019.
The event was designed to showcase and evaluate the learners’ thought processes, spoken and presentation
skills. The theme for each class was:
Grades 1 and 2—the students had to enact any one character from the Ramayana and the Mahabharatha re-
spectively or any mythological character of their choice.
Grades 3 and 4—the students had to enact the role of any one king or queen from Indian history and Indian
freedom fighters respectively.
Grades 5 and 6— the students had to enact the role of any one Indian Social reformer and Contemporary In-
dian thinker post independence.
Grade 7— the students had to enact the role of any one revolutionary Indian leader
Grade 8—the students had to deliver an election campaign speech or victory speech.
Grade 9 – students had to declaim the speech of Napoleon Bonaparte – Farewell to Imperial guard.
The students had a time limit of two minutes and were evaluated on parameters like confidence, fluency,
content, body language, voice modulation and relevance.

Founder’s Day

The Founder’s Day is the event celebrated every year in order to commemorate the birth anniversary of the
founder of the school Late Shri P K Bheemaiah. The Founder’s 97th birth anniversary was celebrated on the
8th of August 2019.
The celebration began with an invocation dance by Miss Shravani from Grade IV B. The dignitaries lit the
lamp and offered prayers to our founder Late Sri P K Bheemaiah.
Mrs Srividya formally welcomed the gathering and MrsVijayagowri spoke about the significance of the day.
Followed by this was the most wonderful medley performed by the students of Grade 7and 8 under the guid-
ance of Ms. Shruthi, the music teacher.
The Vice Principal Mrs. Prathibha Rao presented the ‘Milestones’ achieved by DFL to the management. The
Secretary Mrs. Madhuri Chengappa , CEO Mr. Chinnappa and Headmaster Mr. Vijayakumar addressed the
students. They shared the anecdotes and their working experience with the founder. The celebration ended
with the school anthem and vote of thanks by Mrs. Vandana .

Independence Day

“Great empires crumbled while the ideas survived” - Bhagat Singh
The Daffodils Foundation for Learning celebrated Independence Day remembering the sacrifices
of the many sung and unsung heroes who fought hard for our independence. The programme was
inaugurated with the flag hoisting by our chief guest Major Aditi Mohan. This was followed by the
march-past by the students of DES who exhibited the team spirit by marching in unison to the
rhythm of the band. Students of DFL performed the invocation dance to mark the beginning of the
events which was followed by a speech from the head girl of DES. A peppy patriotic folk lore was
sung by the junior wing music club and a beautiful dance was performed by the students from sen-
ior wing of DES. A heart touching musical was displayed by the State Board students.
‘Potential is not the end point but the capacity to grow and learn’. Students of 2018-19 were felici-
tated with the General Proficiency Award. A remarkable and an inspirational speech was given by
our Honorable Chief Guest. The principal of DES addressed the gathering and the event was con-
cluded by the vote of thanks rendered by the head boy of DES.

Annual Sports Day

Daffodils Foundation for Learning held its Annual Sports Day on 21 November, 2019, with great
enthusiasm. The students from grade 1 to grade 9 participated with true spirit and manifested their athletic
skills with an unimpeachable finesse. A day filled with excitement, amidst thrills, and cheers started with the
lovely rendition of salutations to the Almighty by the choir followed by the flag hoisting ceremony.
Kethana of grade 6 welcomed the guests and the gathering. This was followed by the special events. It was a
delight to see the excitement with which the students challenged themselves to attempt a variety of races.
The tug- of- war between the Houses added to the enjoyment. The ground was filled with cheering and
encouragement for the young athletes, following which the prize distribution ceremony took place.
The overall sports championship awards were given. All four Houses finally gathered for the closing
ceremony.
The Chief Guest, Mr.Chinnappa then addressed the gathering. In his keynote speech, he praised the efforts
of all the students and congratulated the winners. He highlighted the necessity of sportsmanship.
The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks rendered by Deepthi of grade 8, who thanked each and
every one who worked towards the conduct of the event successfully. The event concluded with the National
Anthem by the school choir.

Republic Day

Freedom in the mind.

The 71ST Republic Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour by Daffodils English School Asso-
ciation and was hosted by Daffodils Foundation for Learning. The chief guests for the day were the three top-
pers for the year academic year 2018-19, Master.Saptham (CBSE), Miss Shraddha Eshwar Pujar (ICSE) and
Miss Lalitha K.S (SSLC). The event was presided over by the CEO Mr Chinnappa A P; Principal Daffodils
Foundation for Learning, Mrs Sujatha Girish; Headmaster of Daffodils English School, Mr Vijaykumar and
Principal of Daffodils English School, Mrs Aparna Ramasheshiah. The event began at 8:30 am, as the guests
received the guard of honour by the school scouts and guides children. The students of DES presented an
invocation song to start the event on an auspicious note followed by a cheerful welcome by the school head
boy, Aditya Micah.
The MC team of students ably supported the performers and took the spectators through the itinerary with
interesting references and quotes.
The Chief Guest Master Saptham , unfurled the Tricolour flag as the audience rendered the National anthem.
A parade led by the school leaders, followed by the four houses of Daffodils Foundation for Learning, Akash,
Tejas, Sagarika and Prithvi, in their vibrant colours of blue, yellow, green and brown respectively marched
past the dais saluting the chief guest. They were followed by a contingent of Scouts and Guides and the
school band.

The chief guest and the guests of honour spoke on how one can contribute for the nation’s wellbeing in one’s
own little ways. They thanked their parents, teachers and their friends for supporting them.

The day’s celebration continued with a folk dance and a patriotic song presented by the students of Daffodils
English School and a patriotic dance by students of Daffodils Foundation for Learning.

The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks by head girl, Miss Vedhika R Kotian of DFL. Indeed, it
was a day of joy, a day to love and respect our motherland and make it a better place to live in.

International Yoga Day

Yoga stands for holistic fitness regimen and is now a way of life for many, globally. Daffodils Foundation
for Learning celebrated International yoga day on 21st of June as part of their special morning assembly.
Many yoga poses and Asanas were demonstrated with great agility by a group of students which was spe-
cially trained for this display by yoga instructor Mrs Jayaratna.
Mrs Jayaratna also shared the importance and the benefits of practising yoga regularly.
A mass pranayama session followed the session of Mrs. Jayratna. All the students of the school participated
in the session.
The school has the distinction of regularly conducting mass pranayama sessions on every Friday during the
morning assembly programme.

Inter House Debate Competition

An inter house English debate competition was organized for the students at our school. The preliminary
rounds for all the four houses were held on 27th November 2019 on the topics, ‘Technology is Curbing
One’s Creativity’ and ‘Family plays a more important role than friends in shaping one’s personality’.
Tejas house and Sagarika house were declared as finalists and faced each other in the finals with the topic,
‘Military Training of 2 years should be made Mandatory for Government Service’ on 5th December 2019.
Sagarika house spoke for the resolution and Tejas house spoke against the same. The speakers exuded great
confidence and presented their arguments effectively. Tejas house was declared
winners. The events were judged by external judges.

CHILDREN’S DAY

“Every child is a different kind of flower, and all together make this world a beautiful garden.”
Daffodils Foundation for learning celebrated Children’s Day on 14th November, 2019. The program start-
ed with the cultural programme organised by the teachers. The students added vibrant hues to the envi-
ronment by being present in ethnic attire.
After the snacks break, the Math Art activity was conducted for the students of classes 1 to 9. This made
the children connect the concept of math and how they can be integrated with their artistic skills. The ac-
tivities were conducted based on the following themes

Grade III: Rangoli Pattern
Grade IV: Tessellation
Grade V: Types of Angles
Grade VI: Types of Quadrilaterals
Grade VII: Tangram Puzzles
Grade VIII: Congruent Shapes

This was followed by circle time activity conducted for classes 5 to 9 and movie screening of ‘The Jun-
gle Book’ and ‘The Lion King.’ The activities were a perfect blend of fun and learning, ideal for a No
Bag Day.

QUEST

Quest means ‘a long search for something that is difficult to find or an attempt to achieve something diffi-
cult’. Daffodils Foundation for Learning always believes in giving students the opportunity to satisfy their
‘quest’ for knowledge and learning. The school strives towards the holistic development of the students in
all areas such as reasoning, current affairs, life skill, time management etc. In this direction, the co-
curricular activity ‘QUEST’ was organized for the students. After the preliminary round of the written test
related to general awareness, life skills, value education, current affairs and logical reasoning, the finalists
were chosen based on the performance in the prelims.

The final rounds of quest for all grades were organized on 11 and 13 February 2020.
The quiz comprised five rounds. A perfect ambience complemented the event well and the students partici-
pated with great zeal. Teachers too played good roles as quiz mistresses and the event concluded on a suc-
cessful note.

FAMILY IN SCHOOL

February 15, 2020 dawned bright and beautiful to celebrate Family in School. It is a unique event that
brings three generations together on the stage and it is one of the highlights of the calendar of events of
DFL. This year, the grand show commenced by an invocation song by Mr. Ganesh and Mr. Rajendra Bhat
followed by lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries and the chief guest. Mrs. Jayalakshmi rendered the wel-
come speech was by and Mrs Manmeet introduced the chief guest Mrs. Srimathi Jayram, a prominent
Gamaka exponent.

The chief guest, in her address, threw light on the rich cultural heritage of India that has always advocated
family bonding and congratulated the management for organising such a unique programme that worked
towards fostering the family bond.

The programmes included mesmerizing dance performances and songs. It was an amazing event where the
three generations actively participated with great enthusiasm. The grandparents matched step to step with
the younger generation and showed their lively spirit.

The MC’s of the day Mrs. Reshma and Mrs. Parinita kept the audience entertained with their lively banter
on stage. The chief guest and the participants were felicitated by the Secretary Mrs. Madhuri Chengappa.
She addressed the gathering and shared wonderful anecdotes that signify the importance of joint families.
The vote of thanks was rendered by Mrs. Sunitha.

National Mathematics Talent Olympiad 2019 - 20

Daffodils Foundation for Learning, conducts Maths Olympiad examination every year in an endeavor to
develop a greater competitive spirit, better assessment and exploration of potential among students. It in-
stills the quality of hard work in the students by pushing them to prepare hard for the exam and sharpen
their thinking and learning process which helps them to grasp the concepts taught in the class in a better
way. On 19th November, 2019,
NATIONAL MATHEMATICS INDIAN TALENT OLYMPIAD was conducted for the students
of grade one to grade nine during, school hours. Around 185 students participated enthusiastically.

Hour of Code

Hour of code is a global movement by code.org reaching millions of students in 180+ countries through a one
-hour introduction to computer programming.
Hour of code takes place every year during the Computer Science Education Week from 9 to 15 December.
The department of Computer Science hosted the hour of code competition for the students from grade 4 to
grade 9 during this period to create a fun and creative environment for the students and to introduce them to
the concept of computer programming. The department of Computer Science is proud to have successfully
completed the event across all the grades as per the schedule.

INVESTITURE CEREMONY 2019 - 20

The most auspicious ceremonial occasion of the school, the Investiture Ceremony was celebrated on 6th
June 2019. The Investiture Ceremony is one of the momentous occasions when the school entrusts
hope, faith and the mantle of responsibility with the newly appointed student council. It commenced with
invoking the blessings of the Almighty, followed by school anthem and lighting of the lamp. The student
council of 2018-19 handed over their badges and sashes to their respective House– Mistresses.

The House- Mistresses for the academic year 2019-20 were welcomed. The newly appointed student council
was conferred with badges and sashes by the respective House Mistresses, CCA coordinator, Sports incharg-
es and Principal . The Principal Mrs. Sujatha Girish administered the oath to the student council. The student
council took the pledge to hold the motto of the school in high esteem.

Holy verses were read by the teachers, reiterating the values of punctuality, dedication, discipline and
determination. Mrs.Maduri Chengappa, Secretary, congratulated the newly appointed student leaders and
advised them to be role models by discharging their duties efficiently. The Vice Principal, Mrs.Prathibha
Rao, also congratulated and motivated the council members to carry out the responsibilities bestowed upon
them with sincerity and dedication. The function concluded with the vote of thanks.

The Investiture Ceremony of Daffodils Foundation for Learning for the academic session 2020-2021 was
held on 30 January, 2020 with great pomp and dignity. The event was presided over by the CEO Mr. Chin-
nappa, Secretary Mrs. Madhuri Chengappa, Principal Dr. Sujatha Girish and Vice Principal Mrs. Prathibha
Rao. Senior Academic Coordinator Mrs. Triveni was the Master of Ceremony.

The program commenced by invoking the blessings of the Almighty followed by the school anthem. This
was followed by lighting of the lamp by the esteemed dignitaries and a welcome speech by
Mrs. Sumalatha.

The House Mistresses for 2020-21 were introduced by the Senior Academic Coordinator Mrs. Triveni and
were welcomed by the Principal. The newly appointed student council members were conferred with badges
and sashes by the House Mistresses, CCA coordinator, Sports in Charges and the Principal. The Principal
administered the oath to the new student council. The student council avowed to shoulder the responsibility
as leaders and to carry out the duties towards the welfare of students and the school.

Inspirational verses rendered by Mrs. Nazreen, Mrs. Geetha, Mrs. Manmeeth, Mrs. Sunitha and Mr.
Ganesh Bhatt from the Holy Scriptures reiterated the values of punctuality, dedication, discipline and de-
termination to the students.

The CEO, Mr. Chinnappa and Secretary, Mrs. Madhuri Chengappa congratulated the newly appointed
House Mistresses and the Student Leaders and advised them to be impartial and honest in discharging
their duties. They reminded them that they are the torch bearers of all the values that the school stands for
and urged them to take up the responsibility with commitment and integrity. They also stressed on the im-
portance of developing positive leadership qualities among the students at an early age.

The CCA Coordinator, Mrs. Ramya announced the results of the inter-house competitions held during the
academic year and the trophies were presented to the students by the CEO.

The function concluded with Mrs. Veena extending vote of thanks. It was a memorable day for the

Digital Detox: The New Gen Z Need

In the years I grew up, I never knew what this word meant-‘Digital detox’ for, it never existed. Internet
evolved way back in 2000s – the dot-com era, and in the next decade came Wikipedia, Skype, YouTube,
Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram and many more. I clearly remember creating a Gmail and a Facebook ac-
count in 2009 when I was 20! Moreover, I had to visit a Cyber Cafe, barely seen today, to use the internet.
Hence, accessing these was at a frequency of just about two to three times a month. Things have changed by
leaps and bounds today. Statistics reveal that about 66% of the population show signs of “nomophobia”- no
mobile-phone phobia and Cambridge dictionary revealed that “nomophobia” has been selected as the Peo-
ple’s word of 2018. What does all of this tell us?
This generation has access to emails, social media, online games and just about anything of the virtual world
at their fingertips. Thanks to the plush smartphones, digital toxicity has become the new-found disease. Gen-
eration Z has begun to believe that “If you don’t have a digital identity, you don’t exist.” The time has come
today when parents have started to define phone-usage time among the various activities to be done by the
child during the course of the day. Are the children to be blamed?
The answer is an emphatic No. It is we who have created this new-found disease through our own behav-
iour. Most of us get anxious when the phone is not around. We have started to believe that a smartphone is
our extended-self. Our day begins not by chanting “karaagre vasate lakshmi”, but rather by checking the first
message on Whatsapp and Instagram. One blink of the notification on the phone, we are ready to leave the
breakfast table in a rush. While we travel to work or school, we still keep our phones around for, we can’t
either stop talking or find our way without the Google Map. Scrolling down the newsfeed on Facebook and
checking on profile pictures has become a mode of relaxation. We have people around us to interact, but we
choose to interact with our phone. We don’t go to bed without bidding goodbye to our beloved gadget.
Many parents engage their children with smartphones so they could be busy in their own virtual world.
Technology addiction has been known to cause anxiety, lack of sleep, poor mental health including depres-
sion. We were never born with smartphones but we did grow with technology quickly picking up the trends.
Let us understand that our kids only emulate us.
We need to detox first. We alone can make a difference to ourselves and thereafter, to our children.
Resisting technology is not the solution. Let us accept it by exercising caution in our minds. Let us first em-
brace and engraft in young minds the value of relationships, the warmth in family bonding, the charm of en-
gaging in sports, the relevance of exercising, the passion of reading a book, and the delights of pursuing cul-
tural activities and help them focus on the ‘world’ around them rather than the ‘screens’ around them. Tech-
nology is not bad. It helps us connect and gather volumes of information. We cannot keep our children away
from Facebook or Whatsapp or Alexa, but too much of anything is only toxic. Let us teach our children to
learn, adopt, and experience technology with caution and instill in them that the world “offline” is more
beautiful. Let us join our hands together and make our children believe in creating and nurturing the real
identities over the virtual ones. Let’s digital detox!

Annual Day

Annual day was a grand success. I enjoyed watching the performances. The performances were splen-
did. All the children performed very well and with a lot of spirit. The show is a good memory for me.
All the children were given a chance to perform and they did very well. The children showed the importance
of saving our Earth. I would like to congratulate the principal, teachers and the management for the grand
success of the programme.

A Day’s Judge !!!!

August 6 ,2019 is a special day to cherish for life. I walked into Daffodils in the new role of ‘Judge’ for
‘Symphony ’ of Grade IV. I had stepped in decades back into the same campus as a student of LKG, then!
Now, years have passed by. I was feeling warm, happy and nervous all at the same time. Smiling to my-
self, I walked into Class 4. Seeing the smiling faces of small kids made me relax. I became one among
them, comfortable.
The event started with the welcome speech by a student and my introduction. The children spoke about
“Indian Freedom Fighters” (topic given by school). Seeing them talk confidently, I had a challenge before
me to judge and give them marks based on the parameters/guidelines shared by the school. I spoke very
little, just enough to comfort students. I added my views on freedom fighters only when they missed their
speech due to stage fear. It was totally acceptable as they are too young.

Those few hours spent, was knowledgeable for me and an opportunity to learn so much about free-
dom fighters. I walked home with happiness twinkling in my eyes and pride in heart of being a judge in
my very own loving school Daffodils. I also got a flowering plant pot as memento of love/respect from
school, which to date smiles at me each day when I step on to my home balcony.
Looking forward for my next opportunity for similar events. A hearty thanks to DFL.
