Chairman Question of the Month

WHO IS YOUR EVERYDAY HERO?

Often, as humans, we tend to put a spotlight on celebrity figures
and label them “heroes.”
But what about the cafeteria worker at the local elementary
school who wasn’t able to stay home during the pandemic
because she was waking up early to cook and serve students
so they would have something to eat everyday? Or the local
banker who put in way more then 40 hours per week so she
could process loans to businesses who were suffering financially?
We all know someone who has recently stepped up and been a
“hero” to someone else. We want to know who your local hero
is. If you have a story to share about someone local who has
made a huge impact, please send an email to

Chevron Pasadena Refinery Honored as 2021 Industry of the Year

It was a wonderful turnout at the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce Annual Industrial Appreciation
Membership luncheon, where we were able to honor our 2021 Industry of the Year award recipient, Chevron
Pasadena Refinery.
The Chevron Pasadena Refinery creates ever-cleaner energy products that fuel progress here and around the
world. From gasoline to diesel to chemical feedstocks, every product is produced with care by a dedicated
team of Chevron operators, engineers, scientists and other professionals. Our people focus continually on safe,
reliable operations to provide energy in an environmentally responsible way.
Chevron purchased Pasadena Refining System, Inc. (PRSI) in May 2019 for three business reasons.
1. The refinery offers Chevron a strategic location to process Texas crude oil we produce in the Permian Basin.
2. This facility helps supply 1,500 Chevron and Texaco retail stations in Texas, with a strong presence here in

the Greater Houston area.
3. This plant teams up with a Chevron refinery in Mississippi on product exchanges and maintenance

planning.
The Chevron Pasadena Refinery can process 110 thousand barrels of oil per day and store 5.1 million barrels
on our 466-acre complex.
Approach to responsible operations in pasadena
Chevron delivers success by building trusting relationships and protecting people and the environment.
Throughout Chevron, we work hard to be environmental stewards and promote open dialogue with our
community neighbors. We take product containment and pollution prevention seriously, putting strong focus
on the use of effective safeguards. Simply stated, we protect the environment through responsible operations.
Approach to community engagement
Chevron is committed to creating social and economic
value wherever we do business. Through local engagement,
we generate new opportunities for residents and help
communities reach their greatest potential.
By delivering operational excellence and engaging with the
community, we achieve Chevron’s vision to be the global
energy company most admired for its people, partnership
and performance.

BakerRipley Honored as 2021 Non-Profit of the Year

The Pasadena Chamber was very excited to honor BakerRipley as our 2021 Non-Profit of the Year at our
Annual Nights and Bites Networking event on June 3rd.

About BakerRipley:
At the core of BakerRipley’s work is our fundamental belief in transformational investment into our
communities. This belief that meeting our Neighbors where they are, with the strengths they already possess,
is how we support individuals on their path to true self-sufficiency. We build on that foundation by providing
enriching, holistic programs and services that support the aspirations of tens of thousands of people across our
region.

For more than a century, BakerRipley has offered innovative solutions to help low-income families in emerging
neighborhoods get a foothold in the region’s economy. Since 1948, the BakerRipley Cleveland Campus has
served the residents of Pasadena/South Houston. We started providing recreational activities at Pasadena
parks and schools. In 1954, alongside the City of Pasadena’s Recreation Department, our programs evolved
into more informal education and enrichment classes.

The BakerRipley Cleveland Campus opened at its present location in 1968 and has responded to community
needs by developing after-school and summer youth activities, life skills classes for adults, senior services, adult
education and job training programs, GED testing services, and a strong partnership with Workforce Solutions
Southeast office. We serve over 40,000 residents annually at the Cleveland campus and Workforce Solutions
Southeast Office.

By way of the continued partnership with the City of Pasadena, BakerRipley has been able to build dynamic
engagement programs for the community. Our Community Engineers program, in particular, provides a
space for residents to become civically engaged on matters
that are most important to them including, but not limited to,
public health, transportation, and economic opportunity. This
longstanding partnership has demonstrated the importance
of cross-sector collaboration for the benefit and support of
community members.

New Festival Coming to Pasadena!

Vol. Summer is a one day festival that will serve as a benefit for The FarWell Foundation [a 501(c)(3) non-
profit], with 100% of its profits going towards developing a homeless shelter that will serve Pasadena and
South Houston. Those experiencing homelessness and the vulnerability it creates require advocates, and The
FarWell Foundation is using this platform to bring awareness on a large scale. Resources for the homeless
are at a premium any given moment across the city, state and country - so it is important that we establish
a shelter for the general population in the area. The initial phase of the shelter will start with acquiring a
property that will serve as a resource center and quickly move to increase its services.

By the end of 2022, The FarWell Foundation's headquarters anticipates offering, at minimum, the following
services: internet access, storage lockers, hot/cold meals, employment training/assistance, health services,
showers, complimentary laundry facilities; day shelter and overnight shelter. By no means is this all the facility
will be limited to, but it will be the beginning of the Foundation's long-term goals for the community. Long-
term, the Foundation will maintain the original facility and its services as well as develop 6-10 acres of land for
a Tiny Home community - chartering a new level of living for those in need of more holistic services.

Helping to end homelessness is our long-term goal and what drives this organization, but this year Vol.
Summer is also hoping to stimulate the Post-Covid local economy. In order to make their ends meet small
business vendors and local food trucks have had to get creative these last 15 months. They have flexed their
innovative muscles and figured out ways to keep their businesses going as face to face gatherings have
been largely non-existent since the beginning of the pandemic - a true testament to their entrepreneurial
spirit.

With this being the first annual event what can
you expect?
Live music from major performing artists,
vendor shops galore, food trucks of all
types and a unique indoor art installation
experience. Alcohol will be served at this event
so keep that in mind as you plan your day.
We are still open to sponsorships and welcome
any engagement from the community as the
sole purpose of this event is to help improve
the quality of life in Pasadena and the
surrounding areas.

Tickets can be found at www.showclix.com/

Until the day of the event you can use Promo
