2023 Citizen of the Year: Roy D. Mease Chambergram 11 The Citizen of the Year is the highest award given to one individual annually. The person receiving this award is someone who exhibits a level of dedication and contributions to Pasadena above and beyond the call of duty. Roy D. Mease graduated from Pasadena High School in 1957 and went on to graduate from the University of Texas. In 1964, he obtained the State Bar of Texas License to practice law in Texas and later earned a Doctorate of Jurisprudence at South Texas College of Law. Roy has served the Pasadena community for more than forty years giving of his time and support to many non-profit organizations. He was elected to Pasadena City Council where he served for eight years and appointed as Port Commissioner of the Port Houston for the last ten years. He has also served as a former Chairman of Pasadena Second Century Corporation (now known as the Pasadena Economic Development Corporation) and has been a member and advocate for the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, annually supporting Taste of the Town. He currently serves as a Board Member Emeritus of the San Jacinto Foundation, and is passionate about supporting the Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo where he has served as Past President and director for more than forty years. Roy and his wife Sue, established the Kipper Mease Endowment Scholarship Fund in memory of their late son Kipper for San Jacinto College students who needed a boost pursuing their educational endeavors. Beyond Roy’s volunteer service he has made significant contributions to the Rodeo, San Jacinto Foundation, Rotary Club and Pasadena ISD Education Foundation to name a few. These are just a few of the many accomplishments of Mr. Mease. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor!
Chambergram 12 As a member of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, we want you to know that your voice matters! In late 2022, we held a breakfast meeting called CEO Circle, where we met with CEO’s, business owners and executive staff from our Diamond, Platinum and Gold membership. During this meeting, there was a common theme that kept getting brought up...workforce issues. Across all industries of business, our members are having a hard time attracting and retaining quality staff, and wanted to know what we could do to help. After this event, we decided to launch a Workforce Development committee to address this ongoing issue for our members. After only four meetings this year, our new committee has launched a webpage on our Pasadena Chamber website called “Workforce Center.” This webpage hosts a user friendly job board, resources for both job seekers and employers, and a lot more. We invite you to check out that webpage and share it across your networks so we can help Put Pasadena to Work! CLICK HERE to view the webpage.

Annual Gala: Business is Roaring in Pasadena Dr. Allatia Harris Passing Gavel to Kicker Cardenas 2024 Board Being Sworn in by Senator Mayes Middleton 16 Chambergram On December 7th, we hosted our Annual Gala: Business is Roaring in Pasadena, at the Fountain Blu Event Center! This year, we were excited to honor all the great work that has been done. We started off the night by announcing our 2023 Citizen of the Year, Roy D. Mease. This award is always a complete surprise to the recipient, and we enjoy surprising them by inviting their famiily and dear friends to be a part of the celebration. This special night also allows us the opportunity to honor our Board of Directors, and all the work they do for us over their terms. We were able to hear remarks from our outgoing chairman, Dr. Allatia Harris of San Jacinto College, as well as our incoming chairman, Kicker Cardenas of Kicker Insures Me Agency. Another huge part of the program is celebrating the graduating class of IMPACT Pasadena. As of today, we have over 55 local leaders who have graduated from this program. We are excited to see all the amazing things they accomplish, and are ready to meet the next cohort, which we will begin accepting applications this coming summer. We want to sincerely thank all of our members for their continued investment into the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce. Because of your partnership, we are able to continue the good work we do each year, and help make Pasadena the greatest city on earth!
