What are some of the greatest innovations or

Chairman Question of the Month

WHO IS YOUR EVERYDAY HERO?

Often, as humans, we tend to put a spotlight on celebrity figures
and label them “heroes.”
But what about the cafeteria worker at the local elementary
school who wasn’t able to stay home during the pandemic
because she was waking up early to cook and serve students
so they would have something to eat everyday? Or the local
banker who put in way more then 40 hours per week so she
could process loans to businesses who were suffering financially?
We all know someone who has recently stepped up and been a
“hero” to someone else. We want to know who your local hero
is. If you have a story to share about someone local who has
made a huge impact, please send an email to

Clark Freight Lines Named the
2021 Business of the Year

The Pasadena Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that Clark Freight Lines has
been named the 2021 Business of the Year! Historically, the grand announcement is made
at the Annual State of the City event in front of a crowd of over 800 people. Sticking to
tradition, the Pasadena Chamber still made the announcement at the event, although
State of the City was held as a virtual experience.
About Clark Freight Lines Inc:
For the Love of Trucks: Moving America… from Pasadena
In an industry that is most often invisible at best, the leadership at Clark Freight Lines has kept trucking at the forefront for
their entire lives. Ron Clark started in transportation in Houston in the 1950’s, working for the Port of Houston and other
industry partners until starting his own businesses, Clark Freight Lines, in the 1970’s.
Separately, after childhoods of “truck-worship” and then some highly-valued years of truck-driving for a living, David
Schnautz and Danny Schnautz went into the office at Clark Freight Lines to work the positions needed to support drivers on
the road --- safety, sales, dispatch, customer service, and others. As drivers benefited from the quality work of these two

drivers-turned-dispatchers, more trucks joined and more office staff was needed. An
exceptional group of co-workers have joined the company along the years, adding to
the high standards and continuing the same reputation. There is big fun along the way
– from eleven codes and too much food, to Driver Appreciation Week. Hard work and
good times go hand-in-hand at Clark Freight Lines, with repeated instances of two and
three generations within a single family working at Clark Freight Lines simultaneously. They
have laughed together, and cried together.
Arriving in Pasadena in the summer of 1989, Clark Freight Lines has grown from one small
lot to multiple properties plus terminals in 4 cities and 3 states. A noteworthy reputation for
safety and service has created retention of customers and drivers for over three decades,
a rarity in this segment of trucking. Today the company supplies loads and equipment to
nearly 200 company drivers and contractors, serving many industries across the nation,
especially Houston’s petrochem industry. Equipment innovations have improved service
in moving imports, exports, and domestic loads, both specialized and more common
lumber, steel, and consumer goods. The memorable loads have included grand prix cars,
stone for enormous statues, and helicopters.

Chambergram 11

Early on, Clark Freight looked for opportunities to connect with the
citizens and help others. Their trucks have been used as floats in
dozens of parades, they have hauled hundreds of charity loads
including toys, books, relief supplies, and Christian ministry needs.
The “wall of plaques” tell stories of donations – to the assisted living
across the street, to little league sports teams, and to local service
organizations including Pasadena South Rotary, Pasadena Rodeo,
and Pasadena Kiwanis. One plaque memorializes appreciation for
14 consecutive years of truck, trailer, and driver donations to the “Our
Neighborhood Association.” The Pasadena Police Department has
been a beneficiary of the company’s generosity in projects like DARE,
Officer Santa, and more.

Clark Freight Lines also treasures its Pasadena vendors – companies that help create success with their consistent supply of
their products and services. These partners include Meador Staffing, Apache Oil, Chick Fil A, Fischer’s Diesel, Ichi-Ban Trophy
Shop, Silver Sycamore, Mailboxes Plus, and more. For decades, we have been getting business done with Smokey at the
Post Office on Spencer, and also Dr. Puig at Occupational Medical.

Within the transportation industry, Clark Freight Lines has been a member of and in leadership of groups like the Houston
Safety Council, the Transportation Club of Houston, OOIDA, ATHS, and dozens of other groups including a standing USDOT
trucking committee. United States Representatives Babin and Olson have been in Clark Freight Lines trucks, learning more
about the industry. “Truckers for Troops” has been supported through OOIDA,

Trucking is hard work in a competitive industry. There are opportunities to fail and succeed every day. Our best efforts are

merely human, but we have been blessed by the Lord our God and that is why we have prospered. We read throughout

the Bible that the success belongs to the Lord. We claim His guidance, goodness, and presence in our lives and our

company in the past, present, and future. 2021 State of the City Address

Pasadena Mayor Jeff Wagner gave a remarkable address during this

years State of the City. While the past two years have certainly been

strange and challenging, Wagner adamently praised the work of the

city’s office of emergency management, emergency responders,

essential workers and civic partners.

Mayor Wagner spoke on improvements made in the city of Pasadna,

including a new fire station, police and fire academy and court building.

Among those improvement projects named were four new residential

Chamber Leadership Visits Damaged Childcare Center at The Bridge

Just a few short weeks ago, the Texas freeze (Uri) wrecked havoc at the childcare center at The Bridge
Over Troubled Waters’ permanent housing complex. The pipes in the complex’s laundry room caused
flooding in the attached childcare center when they burst during the February storm. Two ceilings and a
wall collapsed. The entire childcare facility was under about 2 inches of water, ruining more than $100,000
worth of furniture, along with other damage that makes this center unusable at this time.

Pasadena Chamber President & CEO Cristina Womak, along with
Chairman of the Board, Alix Fox, were invited to tour the facility along
with Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia, and get a
live look at the damage that occurred.

The Pasadena Chamber values the
ability to advocate for and connect
our members, and one of our
core membership categories is our nonprofit organizations. Our Board
established the Non-Profit Network committee, focused at generating
awareness of the needs for the non-profits and connecting those to
resources within our community. We are fortunate to have many generous
partners who collaborate to accomplish more.

We have compiled some pictures of the damage from the storm below. According to Executive Director
Olivia Rivers, the biggest need right now is monetary donations towards their capital campaign for their
new children’s center. For more specific details, please visit www.tbotw.org or call the center directly at
713-472-0753.
