Navigating the Multigenerational Workplace: Challenges and Strategies In today’s dynamic work environment, organizations are witnessing a convergence of multiple generations working side by side. From the seasoned Traditionalists to the tech-savvy Generation Z, each cohort brings its unique perspectives, work habits, and communication styles. While this diversity enriches the workplace, it also presents challenges that require thoughtful management. Let’s explore the hurdles faced when managing a multigenerational workforce and strategies to overcome them. 1. Communication Issues - Effective communication is the cornerstone of any successful workplace. However, different generations often prefer distinct communication styles: Traditionalists and Baby Boomers: These generations value face-to-face interactions, phone calls, and handwritten notes. They appreciate formal communication channels. Generation X: Gen Xers are comfortable with digital communication but also appreciate in-person discussions. Millennials and Generation Z: These digital natives thrive on instant messaging, emails, and virtual collaboration tools. Strategy: Foster open dialogue by creating a communication-friendly environment. Encourage cross-generational mentorship and knowledge sharing. 2. Differing Work Expectations - Generations have varying expectations regarding work-life balance, career progression, and job stability: Baby Boomers: Often prioritize loyalty to a single employer and expect long-term career growth. Millennials and Gen Z: Seek work-life integration, value purpose-driven work, and prioritize flexibility. Strategy: Customize benefits and development programs to cater to individual needs. Offer flexible work arrangements and professional development opportunities. 3. Resistance to Change - Older generations may resist technological advancements or process changes, while younger employees embrace innovation: Baby Boomers and Gen X: May find it challenging to adapt to new technologies or remote work. Millennials and Gen Z: Embrace change but may lack patience with outdated systems. Strategy: Provide training and support during transitions. Encourage cross-generational learning and collaboration. 4. Technology Divide - Tech proficiency varies across generations: Digital Natives: Millennials and Gen Z adapt quickly to new tools. Digital Immigrants: Baby Boomers and Gen X may need more support. Strategy: Provide ongoing technology training and create a collaborative digital workspace. There are many more work, habit and communication styles to expolore. We invite you to attend our Generations Collide Breakfast event on March 27th, from 8:30am - 10:00am at Community Transformation Church Pasadena to hear from a panel of experts from each generation, and learn how they best harness generational power to achieve optimal success. Informatoin about this event can be found on the next page. This is a complimentary event, brought to you by the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, the Pasadena Loves Local Program, Pasadena EDC and Community Health Network. Complimentary breakfast provided by Chick-fil-a Pasadena. CLICK HERE to register now. Written By: Erin Webb Chambergram 10

Yasmene McDaniel CEO of HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast Named Chair of 2024 Houston March for Babies: A Mother of a Movement™ HCA Houston Healthcare and March of Dimes (MOD) Houston is pleased to announce the appointment of Yasmene McDaniel as chair of the 2024 Houston March for Babies: A Mother of a Movement. Proudly presented by HCA Houston Healthcare, a 2024 March for Babies Signature Sponsor, the annual experience provides an opportunity for families to come together to support one another throughout their parenthood journey while raising critical funds to help March of Dimes provide research, programs, education, and advocacy so moms and babies get the best possible start. March for Babies is the organization’s largest fundraiser and the nation’s oldest charitable walk. “Yasmene is a longtime supporter of March for Babies and will focus her efforts to raise awareness and critical funds for March of Dimes,” said Jen Torres, March of Dimes senior executive director. “We are thrilled that she has accepted this opportunity to lead our local movement to advance health equity and ensure that every mom and baby has access to quality care.” McDaniel is CEO of HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast, located in Pasadena, which is well known for its obstetrics and midwifery services. She is asking local businesses and community members to join her and HCA Houston Healthcare in supporting March for Babies. “The number of babies born preterm here in Texas and nationwide is staggering,” said McDaniel. “By joining this movement, individuals and groups can take action to help ensure March of Dimes can continue the vital research, programs and advocacy that allow moms and babies to get the best possible start.” Each day in the United States, one woman dies every 12 hours from pregnancy-related causes, and in Harris County 1 in 8 babies is born too soon. “Although we see thousands of healthy babies born each year in the greater Houston area, we also see thousands of babies who need life-saving treatments in our neonatal ICUs. The work of the March of Dimes is unparalleled in what they do for moms and babies and I’m so proud to be a part of this important work that affects so many lives,” McDaniel added. More than just a walk, March for Babies will lift up communities for health equity, open the door for every mom to have access to care and protect the health of families through advocacy. March for Babies: A Mother of a Movement™ calls on people across the country to unite and take steps—big or small—to fundraise and make a huge difference for the health of all families. Join our 2024 March for Babies Chair, Yasmene McDaniel, CEO of HCA Houston Healthcare Southeast Hospital at the kickoff event March for Babies Pep Up Rally to be held on Tuesday, February 20th at 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Crystal Ballroom.
