Funeraria Del Angel

Business Develoment Project Manager

Hello, my name is Jorge Cotte and I consider it a privilege to participate in the Pasadena Chamber
Ambassador’s Committee. I work as Project Manager for Funeraria Del Angel, which is Part of the Dignity
Memorial Network. My job responsibilities, besides caring with compassion for our families who have suffered
a loss, allow me to connect with other organizations and businesses and give me time to serve where
needed. I love visiting and collaborating with the Pasadena community for several years now, which make
me feel at home.

I have seen the growth and development of the city in several aspects and I believe that our awesome
chamber of commerce has played a key role. I enjoy “playing” in the Pasadena arena as much as possible
and try to make sure that I contribute to its progress even if in a small way. Whether is contributing with non-
profit organizations, volunteering, shopping, and going to some of my favorite dining places, I know that I
can feel as a local.

IMPACT Pasadena Visits the Capital

As part of their 18 month curriculum, several participants in the Pasadena Chamber leadership program, IMPACT

Pasadena, made their way to the State Capitol in Austin on Wednesday, March 24th. Team leaders Rick Torrison, Dr. Allatia
Harris and Ross Winkler guided them through the trip, even teaching a Legislation 101 class on the bus ride there so the
participants could freshen up on the different legislative processes and how each legislative session runs every two years.

Participants were fortunate enough to get to visit with several elected officiols including; Senator Carol Alvarado, Senator
Larry Taylor, Representatives Briscoe Cain, Christina Morales , Dennis Paul, and Mary Ann Perez. They also got to hear from
Aaron Cox at the Texas Association of Business.

The 2020 participants of IMPACT Pasadena certainly faced some unforeseen challenges, when the pandemic arrived only
two months after their initial meeting. Even so, it also allowed
for them to dive deep into situations that no one was ready
to handle and they were able to complete their 18 month
curriculum utilizing creative alternatives, such as Zoom meetings,
to accomplish their end goal of graduation! We are gearing
up to recruit a 2022 class this summer, so be on the lookout for
information when it becomes availble.

Pets Gone Wild Resort In Pasadena Opens Up Indoor Suites to Shelter Dogs

Walter Parsons, owner of Pets Gone Wild Resort, is a man with a heart of gold, and a
HUGE love for dogs, especially dogs who live in the great city of Pasadena! When
the Pasadena Animal Shelter reached capacity, he stepped in and offered five
indoor suites that were to be used specifically for dogs that were currently housed
at the animal shelter. When we asked Walter why he chose to do that, he said,
“It’s just the right thing to do. My wife Beverly and I had the space and couldn’t let
it go to waste. We will continue to help the Pasadena Animal Shelter, it’s the right
thing to do. They can continue to use the five indoor suites as long as they need
them, it’s just not about the money for us, its about the animals!” Cheers to you Pets
Gone Wild Resort! This is what our community is all about and you are truly making a
difference.

Keep Texas Trucking!
The Keep Texas Trucking Coalition has grown its membership to
nearly 500 business and industry groups. TAB and the Trucking Texas
Association urge you to email your lawmakers today asking them
to support SB 17, SB 207, HB 19, and House Bill 1617.

This is critical legislation to protect all businesses that display a logo on a company vehicle and a top priority
for TAB, and the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce.

87th Legislative Session Updates

The Texas Legislature continued a steady pace of work this week. There was no shortage of activity on key
bills. House and Senate committees continue to meet next week, see full committee schedule here.

Economic Development Act/Chapter 313
TAB testified in support of HB 1556 by Chairman Murphy, which extends and reforms the current economic
development act. Texas is a powerhouse and this is an extremely important tool to have for continued
economic success and allows Texas to maintain its competitive edge against other states who are battling
to for our spot as the #1 place to do business. The direct and indirect impacts of this economic incentive are
critical to the state and must remain in place.

Pandemic Liability Protection Act
SB 6, the legislation that provides protections for businesses from pandemic related lawsuits was voted
favorably from the Senate committee on Wednesday. This is must-pass legislation and important for all
businesses across the state to remain open or reopen.

To stay updated on legislative issues, join the Pasadena Chamber Government Relations Committee monthly.
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 13th at 3:30pm. To join this committee, please email
