Chairman Question of the Month

WHO IS YOUR EVERYDAY HERO?

Often, as humans, we tend to put a spotlight on celebrity figures
and label them “heroes.”
But what about the cafeteria worker at the local elementary
school who wasn’t able to stay home during the pandemic
because she was waking up early to cook and serve students
so they would have something to eat everyday? Or the local
banker who put in way more then 40 hours per week so she
could process loans to businesses who were suffering financially?
We all know someone who has recently stepped up and been a
“hero” to someone else. We want to know who your local hero
is. If you have a story to share about someone local who has
made a huge impact, please send an email to
[email protected]

Chevron Pasadena Refinery Honored as 2021 Industry of the Year

It was a wonderful turnout at the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce Annual Industrial Appreciation
Membership luncheon, where we were able to honor our 2021 Industry of the Year award recipient, Chevron
Pasadena Refinery.
The Chevron Pasadena Refinery creates ever-cleaner energy products that fuel progress here and around the
world. From gasoline to diesel to chemical feedstocks, every product is produced with care by a dedicated
team of Chevron operators, engineers, scientists and other professionals. Our people focus continually on safe,
reliable operations to provide energy in an environmentally responsible way.
Chevron purchased Pasadena Refining System, Inc. (PRSI) in May 2019 for three business reasons.
1. The refinery offers Chevron a strategic location to process Texas crude oil we produce in the Permian Basin.
2. This facility helps supply 1,500 Chevron and Texaco retail stations in Texas, with a strong presence here in

the Greater Houston area.
3. This plant teams up with a Chevron refinery in Mississippi on product exchanges and maintenance

planning.
The Chevron Pasadena Refinery can process 110 thousand barrels of oil per day and store 5.1 million barrels
on our 466-acre complex.
Approach to responsible operations in pasadena
Chevron delivers success by building trusting relationships and protecting people and the environment.
Throughout Chevron, we work hard to be environmental stewards and promote open dialogue with our
community neighbors. We take product containment and pollution prevention seriously, putting strong focus
on the use of effective safeguards. Simply stated, we protect the environment through responsible operations.
Approach to community engagement
Chevron is committed to creating social and economic
value wherever we do business. Through local engagement,
we generate new opportunities for residents and help
communities reach their greatest potential.
By delivering operational excellence and engaging with the
community, we achieve Chevron’s vision to be the global
energy company most admired for its people, partnership
and performance.

“Superhero”

to Spotlight at this year’s

Taste of the Town!

Last month, we were so excited to reveal our theme for this year’s Taste of the Town: There’s A Superhero In

All Of Us! This month, we are asking YOU to nominate someone who you think should be spotlighted as a local
“superhero” at this year’s Taste of the Town event on November 4th.

I think we can all agree that we live and work amongst some of the most extraordinary people here in
Pasadena. Whether you are helping to cure illnesses in a hospital, serving lunch to an elementary student at a
school, hosting a painting class to put a smile on someone’s face, or anything in between, there is definitely a
SUPERHERO in all of us, and now is the time to let it shine!

If you know of a local “superhero” you’d like to nominate to be spotlighted at this year’s Taste of the Town
event, please fill out this very short form by
CLICKING HERE. The nominees will all be reviewed
by the Taste of the Town Steering Committee and a
select few will be invited to come and be honored
live at the event this year.

We invite you all to come out on November 4th for
our annual Taste of the Town event. This year will be
an experience like no other. It will feature samples
from over 30 of your favorite local restaurants &
beverage distributors, our famous live auction,
live music AND an incredible business expo and
shopping vendors, just in time to get all those
holiday gifts you need!

This year, Taste of the Town is expanding to be both
an indoor AND an outdoor event, so we will have
plenty of space for you to walk around and enjoy all
the fun!

At this time, you are able to secure your sponsorship,
vendor booth, ticket packages, and/or individual
tickets. Additionally, if you are a food establishment
(restaurant, food truck, cook team, etc) who is
interested in participating, please contact Julianne
with any questions you may have, or you can

The Pasadena Chamber of Commerce is seeking your input! The Board of Directors of the Pasadena Chamber
sets the tone, policy and direction of the organization and, to a major extent, many directions for the
community. Directors should value the mission: To promote economic development and community growth
to ensure the prosperity of Pasadena’s businesses and citizens and purpose of the chamber to advocate and
connect our community through serving and educating our members. Each year, new members are elected to
the Board of Directors to serve for three year terms.

The primary role as a Board member is (1) to contribute to the defining of the organization mission and vision,
(2) governing the fulfillment of that mission and compliance with organizations bylaws, (3) providing oversight
in policy and position statement development, and (4) maintaining fiduciary responsibility and awareness of
the resources of the organization. The only eligibility requirements in the By-Laws for directors seeking a three-
year term are that the person be a member in good standing (dues current) and not currently running for an
elected office. Perhaps the most important unwritten criteria are leadership, good judgment, and a willingness
to serve the membership through quality time and effort.

Requirements that should be known and agreed upon by prospective candidates for the board are 1)
commitment to attend the day-long retreat session each year; 2) mandatory service on at least one standing
or event committee; 3) attend monthly meetings at 3:30pm on the 3rd Monday of each month (meetings
normally last between 1½ to two hours in length, with a few going longer due to a heavy agenda). The By-Laws
read that any director may be removed from the Board following three consecutive absences or fails to attend
at least fifty percent of the regularly called meeting each year, but we urge directors to make every meeting
possible. Perhaps the most important meeting of the year is the one-day retreat for the existing and incoming
board and committee chairs. It is an excellent time to learn about the nuts and bolts of Chamber policies and
activities, as well as to get to know other new and continuing directors on the Board. For a full description of
Board responsibilities and code of conduct CLICK HERE

If you would like to nominate someone or yourself to serve in this capacity
please complete the application HERE and email it to Cristina Womack at
[email protected] no later than August 20, 2021.

Following the deadline for applications, the Nominating Committee will meet to
review and recommend the slate of directors for the current Board of Directors
to approve in a subsequent board meeting.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Cristina directly.

Thank you!
