The Malaysian Games (SUKMA) started in 1986 with Kuala Lumpur as the first host of this event.
The SUKMA Games are held every two years by state until 2010. The Sports Development
Committee (JKPS) meeting in 2010 has decided for the SUKMA Games to be organized every year
starting in 2011 with the National Sports Council as the host every odd year in an effort to develop and
democratize all sports in Malaysia especially sports of choice. However, the Malaysian Games
(SUKMA) in the odd year was stopped in 2015, due to the tight state sports and the high cost for the
State Sports Council to fund a contingent of the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) every year.

Impact sukma games in the
social, economic and sport

Aiming to unearth new talent in the fields of sports especially young athletes from Malaysian 13
member state and federal territory. It is believe that this Sukma games will be a good training ground
for local athletes to gain experience before participating in the higher level such as the SEA Games
and Commonwealth Games. Apart from that, Malaysian Games (SUKMA) aimed at upgrading the
sports facilities in the states the development of sports as a whole in Malaysia. The facilities will be
open for public use once the SUKMA Games are over. Sporting facilities in accordance with people’s
needs and also affordable and accessible sporting amenities to encourage a healthy lifestyle. It also
sporting events for the benefits of the community, especially the youth.

CONCLUSION

We get to learn the necessary skill for using and finding essential information and resources in the National Archives of
Malaysia by completing this finding aids. Thus, in this assignment we will look at the history and background of SUKMA Games,
general rules of SUKMA Games, sports in SUKMA Games, medal and achievements in SUKMA Games and SUKMA Games
participation. As a students, we have a chance to explore this sport unearth the talents of young people in Malaysia whether in the past
or the future. Many information about Sukma Games are being stored in the OFA (online finding aids) that can be obtain clearly
without blur and glitch even that events has been held a long ago. This method had make us easier to finish this task because we are
unable to do a physical visit due to current pandemic Covid-19. We also gained knowledge about this task deeply once we
accomplished this assignment. This also helping students to learn more about the prestigious sport and be able to raise the name of the
country in the future.
