Layang-layang dan Pipit bersahabat baik. Mereka tinggal di kawasan berhampiran. Layang-layang membuat sarang di bawah bumbung. Pipit pula membuat sarang di tempat yang sempit di dalam batang paip tempat mengalir air hujan. The Swallow and the Sparrow were good friends. They lived very close to each other. The Swallow made her nest below the roof. The Sparrow made her nest in the narrow space of the water pipe where the rain water flowed. 2

Layang-layang akan bertelur, mengeram dan menetaskan anakanaknya. Ia akan mengajar anak-anaknya terbang dan menyanyi. Pipit bertelur juga tetapi tidak dapat membesarkan anak-anaknya. Anak-anak Pipit selalu dimakan kucing. The Swallow laid a few eggs. She sat on her eggs and soon they hatched. She then taught her chicks to fly and sing. The Sparrow laid a few eggs too but her chicks did not live. They were always eaten by cats. 4

The Sparrow told the Swallow she was lucky because her nest was strong and at a high place. Her chicks were safe. The Sparrow asked the Swallow to teach her how to build a strong nest. She did not want her chicks to be eaten by the cats again. Pipit memberitahu Layang-layang ia bernasib baik kerana sarangnya kuat dan tinggi. Anak-anaknya selamat. Pipit meminta Layang-layang mengajarnya membuat sarang yang kuat dan tinggi. Ia tidak mahu anak-anaknya dimakan kucing lagi. 7
Layang-layang mengajar Pipit caracara membuat sarang yang kukuh. Ia pergi ke tasik untuk mengambil lumpur. Ia menampal lumpur sebagai dinding sarang. Pipit melihat cara-cara Layang-layang membuat sarang. 8
The Swallow taught the Sparrow how to build a strong nest. She went to the lake to get some mud. She stuck the mud on the nest to make the nest stronger. The Sparrow watched the Swallow as she made the nest. 9
Sarang itu sangat mudah untuk dibuat, fikir Pipit. Ia fikir ada cara-cara yang luar biasa untuk membuat sarang. Layang-layang hanya menunjukkan cara-cara membuat sarang. Ia tidak akan menolong Pipit membuat sarangnya nanti. The Sparrow realised it was quite easy to make the nest. She realised there were interesting ways to make a nest. The Swallow only showed her how to make a nest. She would not help the Sparrow make the nest. 10

Pipit pergi ke tasik untuk mengambil lumpur. Ia berulang-alik beberapa kali. Apabila lumpur sudah mencukupi, Pipit mencari jerami padi dan bahan-bahan lain. Ia mula menampal lumpur itu. The Sparrow went to the lake to get some mud. She had to go to the lake a few times. When there was enough mud, the Sparrow went to search for rice straw and other things. She wanted to put the mud on the nest. 12

Sarang Pipit siap. Ia menunjukkan sarangnya kepada Layang-layang. Layanglayang hanya menggeleng-geleng. Layang-layang memuji sarang Pipit. Inilah sarang yang baik dan selesa, katanya. Sebenarnya, Layang-layang menyindir Pipit. The Sparrow finished making her nest. She showed her nest to the Swallow. The Swallow just shook her head. The Swallow praised the Sparrow. She said it was a good and comfortable nest. The Swallow was actually making fun of the Sparrow. 15
Bagaimanapun, sarang Pipit tidak sekuat sarang Layang-layang. Sarang itu jatuh ketika Pipit duduk di dalamnya. Ini disebabkan Pipit tidak mengikut apa yang ditunjukkan oleh Layang-layang. The Sparrow’s nest was not as strong as the Swallow’s nest. The nest fell when the Sparrow sat on it. This happened because the Sparrow had not followed exactly what the Swallow had taught her. 16
