A s long as I can remember, I have loved a quality luxe good. I have my wonderful mother to
thank for this. She was always scouring the racks and goods at Nordstrom Rack or the sale
section of Von Maur to try and style me with the cutest clothing and accessories possible.
She taught me that although looking presentable was important, what defined a woman were
her manners, her education, and her heart. She taught me you didn’t need money to have
class and that all good things take time and should be looked after. This magazine is dedicated to her
and all of her wonderful teachings and of course her quirky and intricate sense of style. It is dedicated
to her sacrifices to always making sure I had a clean set of clothes and clothing that were unique and
went against the grain of what is usually seen as common. I dedicate and share this magazine with
all the women who want better for themselves and who always choose quality over quantity in every
aspect of their life. For women, who work hard to get where they want to be. For the women who are
inspired by clothing and style and sees it as an art form or is beginning to see it as one. This maga-
zine is for the women who want to discover new talent and feel empowered with the pieces he or she
wants to wear but also make sure that the pieces are sustainable and are ethically made.

With some of the toughest trading condi-
tions in living memory retailers are moving
online and investing in new technology, as
Neil Tyler discovers.

The past year has seen the retail sector un-
dergo enormous changes and there’s been a
marked shift towards e-commerce and trad-
ing online. The high street has witnessed the
collapse of some big names, such as Arcadia
and Debenhams, and profitable retailers,
including the department store John Lewis,
have reported record losses and are being
forced to close stores.

New data has found that more than 17,500
chain stores and other venues have closed
over the past year in the UK, and while there
were 7,665 store openings the net loss of
stores was the worst on record.

The pandemic has triggered a massive
sectorial transformation in a matter of a few
months, at a time when retailers have also
had to contend with closures for extended
periods of time.

Retailers are developing their online offer-
ing at a time when consumers have become
more reliant on online channels and plat-
forms and are also having to engage with,
and use, different forms of marketing.

Many retailers have turned to ‘influencer’
marketing, for example, using these plat-
forms to reach new audiences with more cre-
ative content as they look to drive awareness
of product ranges and services.

Last year the company acquired ‘We are
Interact’ and its Events Tag technology plat-
form in a move designed to further enhance
the shopping experience.
