That is the reason she chose to pursue a career in aviation. She was inspired by a documentary series called "Crash Investigations," which fueled her interest in aviation safety. "Making flying safer for everyone" is her goal now. However, this was a new challenge for her because she needed to have sufficient flying experience first to go on that path. This is where she decided to attend flying school. Even though she faced various challenges every year, from the administration to the COVID-19 outbreak, that delayed her flying hours, she somehow managed to obtain her private pilot license and now aims to secure her commercial pilot license. "It is all about continuing and keeping up the momentum," she said. If you can take advice from her, it is to always believe in yourself and pursue your passion, because once you are in that mindset, you can achieve what you want, no matter how challenging it is. You can achieve something if you really want it, but you will also need help from others. For Verosha, her pillars of strength have been her father and mother. Akhila's canvas is filled with a beautiful array of colors, from personal growth to new friendships that feel like family and a network of people from different backgrounds such that he literally know someone who knows someone if he need virtually anything. , to exciting business opportunities. It's amazing to see how Rotaract has provided him with a canvas to express himself and grow in so many different ways. Through Rotaract, Akhila has become part of a vibrant community that spans across diverse backgrounds and cultures. It's truly inspiring to see how Rotaract has brought together people from all walks of life to work towards a common goal of making a positive impact on the world. From General Member (or even prospective member) all the way to DRR and now IPDRR, the journey of Rtn. Rtr. IPDRR PP Akhila was an extremely exciting and adventurous journey with so many life lessons and experiences. Further Akhila states, “I’d be forever grateful towards Rotaract for everything it has provided for me. So far, Rotaract has been a part of me for almost ¼ of my life and it has truly shaped me and changed me into who I am.” Rotaractors excel in various professions while engaging in the art of volunteerism. Presently, Akhila is in the field of marketing, specifically digital marketing. What sparked his enthusiasm was the realization that marketing presents a unique opportunity compared to traditional professions such as medicine, law, and accounting. Akhila recognized that he could engage in fulfilling and enjoyable activities by pursuing a career in marketing. That’s what motivated Akhila; how Marketing seemed very different to most other professions. Here have been so many challenges along the way for him to the point where it is rather difficult for him to even list them down. But one of the biggest lessons he has learned has been about people. BEYOND MAGAZINE 28

BEYOND MAGAZINE 29 In school, Akhila was the fastest to pass tests and upgrade his belts in Karate. Unfortunately, he had to take a break from the sport due to a spine injury. During his university years, he managed to achieve a first-class degree and was awarded the D.P.P. Samareseke Peace Prize at his graduation. People change, they are unpredictable, and sometimes they can be too confusing. Cracking the code to understand human behavior becomes a unique task for him, and it is not something that can be accomplished easily. The more he associates himself with people with an open mindset, the more he starts observing the differences in their behavior. The best part is that the more he learns, the more cautious and careful he becomes about what he says and does. The worst part is that it is also the same because no matter how much he learns, he will never be done. Dealing with people is a skill. He believes that listening to people, discussing opinions and ideas with them, and negotiating with them are all part of this skill. In order for him to master this skill, he must be willing to switch off his selfcentered mindset and start listening to people, observing their behavior, and trying to process what they do and why they do things. It's a complicated learning process. But certainly one that will come in handy, especially if he plans to be in a role that demands him to lead a group of people one day. At his first workplace, he successfully progressed from an intern to a manager within a span of 10 months. He also had the privilege of leading the Rotaract movement in District 3220, providing leadership to the youth of the country. This accomplishment stands as his greatest milestone, of which he is humbly proud of.

BEYOND MAGAZINE 30 Akhila prefers to keep the names of the mentors who played a crucial role in his journey confidential, but he states that he has definitely been fortunate enough to have some very exciting individuals share their knowledge and insights with him. Some of them have had decades of experience in certain fields, while he also believes that sometimes it's our closest friends who can be our biggest mentors and support system. The ability to negotiate and deal with people, problem-solving skills, and common sense were prerequisites not only for being successful in Rotaract but also for any endeavor he pursued. Friendship Amongst many, the most recent funniest memory would be at Center Stage 2.0, I was extremely obsessed with one chair that I took the entire ownership and possession of and completely went bat shit crazy when someone tried to steal it from me. It was hilarious how I pretended to be a master from 16th century literature and was clapping for the peasants (aka. my friends ) to do my chores...but nobody did it but all great good things must come to end, because Rtr. Ali and Rtr. Hasara stole my chair and tormented me with it, apparently to teach me a life lesson and inculcate some skill that I don't seem to remember. Can clearly see their effectiveness of teaching stuff (P.S. under normal circumstances I'm well behaved and calm as a cucumber) In project My ABC's, I taught English to Grade 5 students at an underprivileged school for 3 days. I used to have stage fright and UOC helped me overcome it! It felt awesome to give back what I learnt at uni and make a difference in children's lives! They were extremely keen and eager to learn! I felt content! I'm still high and over the moon from the feeling of that project! I wish to master spells and have a photographic memory like Dr. Strange! And awesome deducing and logical reasoning skills like Sherlock Holmes!!! Maybe if I had this super power I'll be able to give a one line direct answer as to how it'll be useful as a Rotaractor but jokes apart, you don't need any special super power to be a Rotaractor nor to serve others. You just need the super power of believing in the magic of life and have the heart to help everyone! SLAM BOOK Rtr. Piravena Paheerathan RACUOCFMF BEYOND MAGAZINE 39

Networking I had a blast creating my first-ever TikTok video with my friends. It was a hilarious and enjoyable experience that brought laughter and happiness to both us and our viewers. In 2022, I had the privilege of serving as the treasurer for the team "Meet The Need." It was an incredible experience as we embarked on a project that made a significant difference in the lives of a village in Kegalle. Our project aimed to provide access to clean water for their daily needs. Working alongside dedicated team members, we implemented various initiatives to address the water scarcity issue in the village. We collaborated with local authorities, organized fundraising events, and secured the necessary resources to bring this project to fruition. Witnessing the impact of our efforts was truly rewarding. The joy and gratitude expressed by the villagers as they gained access to clean water for their daily use was immeasurable. It not only enhanced their quality of life but also fostered a sense of empowerment within the community. Being part of this project further reinforced my commitment to making a positive difference in the world. It taught me the value of teamwork, resourcefulness, and the profound impact small acts of kindness can have on the lives of others. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as the treasurer for the team "Meet The Need" and for being part of such an awesome project. It has left an indelible mark on me and will continue to inspire me in my future endeavors to contribute to the well-being of communities in need. Time extension: If I possessed the superpower of extending time, I would be able to fully immerse myself in every Rotaract event and contribute more to the club. With the ability to stretch time, I could dedicate extra hours to event planning, organization, and execution. This would allow me to enhance the quality of each event, ensuring a memorable experience for all participants. Additionally, I would have the opportunity to invest additional time in club activities, such as community service projects, fundraising efforts, and leadership development.
