An Anthology of Poems about Feelings

Anthology of poems

An anthology of poems about feelings

by the students of the fifth class
of the 37th Primary School of Iraklio

2019-2020

Inspired by Dr Seuss’ book ‘My many colored days’, which we
read and analysed in class, fifth grade students of the 37th
Primary School of Iraklio, Crete, started a project on
feelings. They worked in groups to write their own haiku
poems about four feelings, namely joy, sadness, anger and
fear.

Tenia Stavrakaki, EFL teacher

Joy

Joy

Joyful images

By‘The Mountain Wolves’(E2)

Spring! I ’m travelling.
Hooray! The boat is leaving.
London, we’re coming!
The birds are singing.
Pretty flowers are blooming.
I am relaxing!
The children I see.
They’re playing over the sea.
They say ‘A fish I see’.

A cup of tea in Champs-Elysees

By ‘The Unicorns’ (E3)

A pretty sunrise above the river
Brings the brightest days!
Presents everywhere.
Friendly smiles, yummy sweets.
Birthdays are great!
A hot cup of tea
With my sweet puppy at a cafe
In Champs-Elysees.

Sadness

Falling apart

By E1 student group

I have got a wish.
It doesn’t come true and I…
I always cry, cry!
Walking in the street,
A little dog in front of me,
Hungry and thirsty, what a pity!
Watching the rain
From my bedroom window.
Everything is falling apart!

Grief

By the ‘Flip Flops’ (E2)

Outside a sunny day.
Inside a grey cloud.
The world is different today.
It’s raining hard.
I can’t hear any sound.
My bird flew away.
It’s cold outdoors.
I stay home all day.

Fear

Fear

‘The Blue Hawks’ (E1)

The sun is good but,
Not for dangerous people.
It reveals them.
Run, run, run, run
To the edge of the cliff.
What will I do if…?
Kids walking in the street,
They see a tired dog
Crossing the road!!! What’s happening?

What do I do now?

By E2 student group

Walking in the town
Alone, with a torch.
Outside darkness.
I have a feeling someone
Is watching me, a dog
Started to bark and I saw…
A man in a black uniform.
I started to run but the man
Ran after me. What do I do now?

Anger

A dark world

By ‘The Sporty Fellows’ (E2)

When kids fight
And adults shout
The world is dark.
Clouds in my mind
On a dark side
Seems weird.
I am on the beach.
It starts raining
I have to go home.
