When KidAround went to

Family Fun was had in London

In the half term, we headed to London for some full-on-family-fun. We had an overnight stay arranged
at Hilton’s 100 Queensgate as part of their ‘Little Explorers Package’, this allows early check in from
10am (where available) and late check out at 4pm so you can make the most of your time sightseeing.
This package also includes an inter-connecting room so you can enjoy a nice adult only room whilst the
kids can chill with a hot chocolate or popcorn and movies in their own room. The kids also receive Little
Explorers goodies, their own little robe and slippers, a bath bomb and access to a Toniebox to listen to
stories until they fall asleep. Louis absolutely loved it and felt very spoilt. It kept him fully entertained
whilst I sat back and relaxed in the evening after an exhausting day. The rooms were spacious, clean
and the staff were so accommodating and lovely. We also reserved a table at the Hotel’s restaurant with
a wide range of food and a great children’s menu. Louis started to get very tired at the table and we
therefore asked if the food could be sent to our room, which was no problem whatsoever. My 15-year-
old, hard to please, daughter also loved the hotel and food and is already planning our next visit. This
is an extravagant treat for the family but worth it if you have the theatre booked or want to do London
shopping over Christmas.
The hotel itself is a very short distance from the Natural History Museum, V & A Museum as well as
Hyde Park. However, we decided to go for Shrek Adventure, Sea Life, A Bus Tour, the London Eye, Hamley’s
and Hyde Park – it was very tiring but fantastic fun.

Shrek Adventure So, what did we think of Shrek Adventure? Wow! Is
what we thought, not just Louis but Grace and I too.
SeaLife London Like the film, the characters entertain the adults
as well as the children. The tour lasts around 45
KIDAROUNDThe Big Bus Tour minutes and every minute was utterly brilliant with
lots of laugh out load moments. I can’t give away
London Eye too much and will just recommend that you book
to go. Next stop - Sea Life which is located next to
DON’T FORGET TO MENTION US WHEN CALLING Shrek Adventures. Again, this was amazing: walking
on sharks (glass floor), stroking star fish, greeting
penguins and meeting so many different variations
of sea life – my personal favourite is walking
through the glass tunnel with the stingrays and
turtles.
We were then lucky to board the Big Bus Tour’s
Halloween event around London with our guide
who was fantastic and funny with his knowledge of
some grim and grueling facts of London. At 41 and
being from London, this was a first for me. I have
never been on an open top bus, and it was such a
great experience, one I can imagine to be magical
during the Festive Season with all the lights – do
book this and make sure you wrap up with hats
and scarves, especially once the sun goes down.
Louis was obviously excited with it being a bus with
no roof. The bus stop is at the London Eye where
you can also purchase tickets, however I would
recommend booking in advance. Only one thing left
to do – the London Eye just as the sun sets. Louis
(4 years old) was super excited until it was our
turn to get in the pod, he then got a little hesitant.
Thankfully, I encouraged him to do it and was super
glad he did – he loved it and wanted to go on it
again the next day – where do they get all the
energy from. As you can imagine the views across
London are simply incredible and lasts around half
an hour so you can take it all in. Finally, back to the
hotel for dinner & sleep zzzz!

Cosy Fun Days In

Sometimes the winter brings beautiful, crisp, sunny days when it’s a joy
to be outside, even if it is cold, especially if there’s lots of snow then the
kids will definitely want to be out having fun! However, on the days that
are just wet and miserable and you want to stay home, here are some
suggestions for keeping the family busy:

Make Fat Balls for birds:

Winter is the hardest time of year for birds as natural
food sources are in short supply and with it being so
cold, they need extra food to keep their energy levels
up to stay warm. How about making some fat balls?
You will need:
• Block of lard (or dripping)
• Mixed bird seed
• Dried fruit (raisins), roughly chopped
• Chopped nuts (leave out if allergies are a problem)
• Coated garden wire
• Empty yoghurt pots
Simply cut an arms’ length of wire and wrap half of this around your thumb to make a
spiral. Bend the other end of the long part to make a hook.
Place the spiral end of the wire into your yoghurt pot with the straight part sticking
straight up. Melt the lard or in a saucepan and leave to cool slightly – but it needs to still
be quite soft. Mix in your seeds, fruit and nuts until you have a gloopy messy mixture (it
should be quite wet) Carefully spoon the mixture into the yoghurt pot to cover the spiral.
Now leave the pot in a fridge or cool place to allow the fat to set. Once set you can remove
the pot (if this is difficult pop the pot into some warm water to make it slide off easier)
Now you have the perfect meal ready to hang out in the garden for your birds to enjoy.

Dressing Up

Get the kids off the computer games and dive into the dressing up box!

Winter Movies

When it’s cold outside, one of the best ways to keep warm and entertained is to snuggle
up under the blankets and watch a winter-themed movie: Snow Buddies, Snow Dogs,
Happy Feet, Mr. Popper's Penguins.

Indoor Den

All Kids love building a den - get creative with some sheets, throws and dining chairs.
Add some fairy lights for extra magic. My daughter still loved this at 13.

Cardboard Car Racing

Still have boxes around from Christmas -
put them to use and make some fun cars for
