DON’T FORGET TO MENTION US WHEN CALLING www.kidaround.biz | Easter Issue 2024• 9 ACTIVE KIDS Physical activity guidelines for children and young people How much physical activity do children aged between 5 - 18 years old need to do to keep healthy? Being physically active every day is important for the healthy growth To maintain a basic level of health, children and young people aged 5 to 18 need to do: at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day – this should range from moderate activity, such as cycling and playground activities, to vigorous activity, such as running and tennis on 3 days a week, these activities should involve exercises for strong muscles and bones, such as swinging on playground equipment, hopping and skipping, and sports such as gymnastics or tennis Children and young people should also reduce the time they spend sitting for extended periods of time, including watching TV, playing computer games and travelling by car when they could walk or cycle. Being active for at least 60 minutes a day is linked to better general health, stronger bones and muscles, and higher levels of self-esteem. To help you and your family achieve these guidelines, see our range of after-school activities and activity camps to help keep your child stay fit, healthy and happy. Section Title 22 Easter Issue 2024 | www.kidaround.biz TO ADVERTISE, CALL 07557 053044 OR EMAIL [email protected] Meet Tinkerbell, a super cute Shetland pony living at Redwings Ada Cole in Essex! Adorable Tinkerbell was born at Redwings after her mother, Elsie, was one of many ponies, horses, and donkeys rescued from appalling conditions at Spindle Farm, Amersham, in 2008. The animals living there were starving and diseased, and many had already passed away. Fortunately, Elsie, who was heavily in foal, was taken to Redwings just in time to give birth to lovely Tinkerbell. Because of Elsie’s neglect, Tinkerbell was very poorly when she was born, but she pulled through thanks to the care from Redwings’ vets! Thankfully Tinkerbell has never experienced suffering or neglect, and so this super Shetland just loves being in the company of her human friends and is one of Redwings’ most cherished Adoption Stars!  Tinkerbell is soon to be 16 years old, and as a Redwings Adoption Star, she’ll be celebrating her birthday with a special party on 14th April at Redwings Ada Cole, just outside Harlow – and everyone is invited! Party celebrations will start at 11.15am, with activities for the whole family, including watching her enjoy a pampering groom and the presentation of her birthday cake, which she will enjoy with a friend. It’s free to visit Redwings, and Tinkerbell would love you to be there!  You can sponsor Tinkerbell for as little as £2 a month. You’ll receive a special adoption pack and regular updates about Tinkerbell’s adventures at the Sanctuary. If you would like more information about adopting Tinkerbell for yourself or as a gift, or visiting Redwings Ada Cole, trot along to redwings.org.uk.
